To host an All of Create server, first identify the pack’s exact Minecraft version, loader (Forge, NeoForge, or an explicitly supplied Fabric build) and server-pack download. Then either install those files on an always-on computer you control or deploy them through a managed Minecraft host. Every connecting player must use the same Minecraft version, loader and modpack build.

Self-hosting avoids a hosting subscription but leaves Java installation, updates, backups, firewall rules and router configuration to you. Managed hosting costs a recurring fee and limits some controls, but its panel can handle much of the deployment and network setup.

What an All of Create server actually requires
All of Create is a Java Edition modpack server project, not a Bedrock server. A working installation consists of several parts that must agree exactly:
- The Minecraft version selected by the pack.
- The mod loader selected by that build: Forge or NeoForge, unless the pack documentation explicitly provides a Fabric variant.
- The matching server-pack archive, including its mods, configuration and any required server assets.
- A compatible Java runtime and the loader’s server software.
- A launch script, accepted EULA and server settings.
- Local firewall and router rules, or a tunneling service, if people outside your home network will connect.
Create’s official project listing describes the main version as running on Forge and NeoForge and also lists a separate Fabric port. That does not make the variants interchangeable: a client built for one loader cannot join a server built for another. The pack’s own release page is the authority for the build you are installing.

The Create listing showed 27.3 million downloads when its page was crawled in 2026. That counter is volatile and is a measure of downloads, not a server-capacity requirement or a guarantee that every release is still supported.
Choose between self-hosting and managed hosting
Your first practical decision is who will operate the machine and network. The two approaches solve different problems.

When self-hosting makes sense
Use a self-hosted machine when you want unrestricted access to the filesystem and JVM settings, plan to experiment with additional mods, or already have a computer that can remain online. The computer does not have to be your everyday gaming PC, but it must have enough memory and storage for the pack and world and must stay available whenever friends want to play.
When managed hosting makes sense
A managed service is useful when your internet connection is difficult to configure, your computer cannot remain online, or nobody in the group wants to maintain Java and router rules. CurseForge’s documented hosted flow has five stages: choose a modpack, choose a plan, choose a region, enter server details and pay. Its support material says roughly 9,000 modpacks are available for server creation, but availability changes; verify that the exact All of Create build and loader you need is listed before paying. Modrinth advertises integrated modpack installation with Forge and NeoForge support, subject to the host and pack version you select.
Step 1: Record the exact pack build
Do this before downloading Java or a loader. Open the pack’s current release information and write down:
- The Minecraft version.
- The loader name and version.
- The modpack release or build number.
- The official server-pack download, if one is supplied.
- Any release-specific Java or installation notes.
Do not combine a client profile from one release with a server archive from another. A seemingly small difference in loader, configuration or mod version can stop the server during startup or produce a mod-list mismatch when a player connects.

Step 2: Prepare a self-hosted machine
Install Java and create a clean directory
Install the Java runtime required by the selected Minecraft and loader release. Keep the server in its own directory rather than mixing it with a client installation or another world. A clean directory makes it easier to identify which mods and configs belong to this pack and simplifies backups.
Minecraft’s official server page states that the official Java and Bedrock server software is free to download. That software alone is not the All of Create server: you still need the pack’s loader and server files.
Install the matching Forge or NeoForge server
Download the exact loader version named by the pack and run its server installation method. Forge’s server README notes that provider panels differ, so a managed panel may use its own installer; on a self-hosted machine, follow the loader’s instructions for the selected Minecraft version. Do not update the loader independently of the pack unless the pack release notes say that combination is supported.
Unpack the server pack
Extract the supplied server-pack archive into the clean directory. A proper server pack normally contains the loader files or installer output plus folders such as mods and config, a launch script, and any additional assets identified by the pack author.
Copy the pack’s mods, configuration and required server assets exactly as supplied. A generic Forge procedure recommends copying the mods and configs from the pack and removing client-side-only mods. Do not blindly copy every file from a client profile: visual, menu, replay and other client-only additions can prevent a dedicated server from starting. Remove a client-only mod only when the pack documentation identifies it as client-side; some mods have both client and server components.
Step 3: Start the server and accept the EULA
Use the supplied launch script
On Windows, run run.bat. On Linux or macOS, run run.sh and ensure the script has permission to execute. A hosting panel will expose an equivalent Start control. The first launch may stop after creating files, including eula.txt; that is expected.
Accept the EULA and restart
Open eula.txt, read the agreement and set the EULA flag as required by the file. Save it, then start the server again. If the process still exits immediately, read the latest log rather than repeatedly restarting: an incorrect Java version, loader mismatch or missing mod is usually more informative in the log than in the launch window.

Set memory and server options
Forge documents user_jvm_args.txt as the place to change the amount of RAM allocated to the game. Use that file or the managed host’s JVM settings rather than editing a generated command that the launcher may overwrite. Server gameplay and world options belong in server.properties. Change one setting at a time and restart cleanly so you can identify which change affected startup or performance.
How much RAM does All of Create need?
There is no universal official RAM number for All of Create. Actual demand depends on the pack build, number of players, world size, chunk activity, automation, installed addons and the Java process’s measured load. Treat any fixed figure presented as a requirement with caution unless it comes from the specific pack release.
Size the server from observed behavior:
- Start with the memory allocation used by the pack’s current server files or host template.
- Test with the expected number of players while they load new terrain and operate Create machines.
- Watch for sustained memory pressure, long garbage-collection pauses, tick delays and crashes in the server log.
- Increase the allocation only when the machine has spare physical memory; leaving no memory for the operating system can make the entire computer unstable.
- Reduce simultaneous chunk loading and unnecessary addons before assuming that more RAM will solve every problem.
For a concrete but volatile hosted example, CurseForge Support listed an “Iron” plan in 2026 at $12 per month with 4 GB of RAM, two shared CPUs and a stated range of one to five players. That is a plan example, not an All of Create requirement or a performance guarantee. Plan names, prices, hardware and regional availability can change, so check the current listing at purchase time.
Step 4: Make the server reachable outside your Wi‑Fi
Test locally first
Join from the same computer or local network before changing router settings. A local failure points to Java, the loader, pack files, EULA or server configuration; an external-only failure points more strongly to firewall, router or tunnel configuration.

Create an inbound firewall rule for the server’s listening port and the Java process, using the port shown in server.properties. Apply the narrowest rule that fits your setup instead of disabling the firewall entirely. Confirm that the rule applies to the network profile your computer is using.
Configure the router or use a tunnel
For players outside your home network, forward the server port from the router to the computer running the server. Give that computer a stable local address so the forwarding rule does not silently point to another device after a DHCP change. Minecraft’s official guidance warns that network configuration may be required; Technic’s guide likewise says outside-Wi‑Fi players need port forwarding or a port-tunneling service.
If you cannot change the router, use a reputable port-tunneling service that supports your server and understand its account, address and traffic limits. A tunnel changes how players reach the server; it does not fix a loader mismatch or an incorrectly installed pack.

Share the right address
Players on your home network use the server computer’s local address. Remote players use the public address or tunnel address supplied by your network setup, together with the configured port when the client requests one. Never post administrative panel credentials or expose unrelated services while troubleshooting Minecraft connectivity.

Step 5: Give every player a matching client
Each player should install the same Minecraft version, loader version and All of Create build as the server. Keep the mod list and configuration synchronized, including any required server-side or shared addons. A player with an extra mod, an older config or a different loader can receive a mismatch error even when the server itself is healthy.
When someone cannot join, compare their installed files with the server pack before changing network settings. Reinstalling the exact client profile is often faster than manually hunting a missing or outdated jar. Have one player connect locally and one remotely after each major change; that separates pack errors from internet-access errors.

- Verify support. Search the provider’s current modpack catalog for the exact All of Create release and loader. If only a similarly named pack or a different Minecraft version appears, do not assume it is compatible.
- Select a region and plan. Choose a region close to most players and a plan whose current memory and CPU description fits your measured or expected load. Treat promotional or example pricing as time- and region-sensitive.
- Install the pack. Use the panel’s integrated installer when it offers the exact server pack. If the panel requires an upload, upload the pack’s server files rather than a client-only profile.
- Set server controls. Configure the panel’s Java or JVM arguments, server properties, operator permissions and backups. Panel labels differ, so use the provider’s current documentation for the exact click path.
- Start and test privately. Accept the EULA if the panel exposes that step, start the server, read the startup log and connect with a matching client before inviting the rest of the group.
- Confirm recovery options. Check where world backups are stored, how to download them and whether the plan limits retention. Infrastructure management by the host does not replace a backup you control.
Managed hosting removes much of the manual port-forwarding work, but it does not make an unsupported pack combination compatible. You remain responsible for selecting a matching build and keeping clients synchronized.
Backups, updates and routine operation
Back up before every change
Stop the server cleanly before copying the world. Back up the world, config directory, server properties, permissions and any custom scripts. Keep at least one copy outside the live server directory; a disk failure or accidental deletion can destroy both the world and its only backup.
Update one variable at a time
Before upgrading, record the current Minecraft version, loader, pack build and addon list. Change one of those variables, launch and test, then move to the next. Keep the previous server directory until the new build has been validated. Do not open a world in a newer pack and then expect the old installation to load it safely without a tested backup.
Use clean shutdowns
Use the server console’s stop command or the host panel’s Stop control. Killing the process during world saves risks corruption and can make the next launch appear to have a mod or config problem when the real cause is an incomplete write.
Keep an operator record
Write down who can change server files, where backups live, which pack build is active and what network address players should use. This small record prevents accidental mixing of client and server files when several people help administer the world.
Troubleshooting the most common failures
The server closes immediately
- Confirm that the installed Java runtime matches the Minecraft and loader release.
- Verify that Forge or NeoForge is the exact version required by the pack.
- Check that the EULA flag was saved and that you restarted after accepting it.
- Read the newest log for a missing dependency, malformed config or client-only mod.
- Restore the clean server-pack directory if you have mixed files from another build.
A mod-list or registry mismatch appears when joining
Compare the client and server Minecraft version, loader, pack build, mods and configs. Remove unapproved client-only additions from the server and reinstall the client profile from the exact pack release. Do not solve a mismatch by randomly downgrading individual mods; the pack’s dependency set must remain coherent.
Local players connect but remote players cannot
Check the host firewall, confirm that the router forwards the configured server port to the correct local address and verify that players are using the current public or tunnel address. If the router cannot be configured, test a port-tunneling service. A successful local connection proves that the server is running, but it does not prove that the internet path is open.
Players experience lag or the server stops under activity
Check memory and CPU usage while players generate terrain and run Create automation. Compare the observed load with the current JVM allocation, reduce unnecessary addons or simultaneous chunk activity, and increase memory only when physical resources allow it. Capture logs before changing several settings so the cause remains identifiable.
An update breaks the world
Stop the server, restore the pre-update backup in a separate test directory and compare the old and new pack notes. Confirm that the world is supported by the target Minecraft and loader versions. If the update is not compatible, return to the previous build and keep the new files separate until you have a verified migration path.
Which hosting choice fits your group?
Choose self-hosting if
- You already have an always-on computer and a stable connection.
- You want full access to mods, configs, JVM arguments and backups.
- You are comfortable with firewall and router administration.
- You accept responsibility for uptime, updates and recovery.
Choose managed hosting if
- You want a guided pack-and-plan deployment.
- Your home router or internet service makes inbound connections difficult.
- You prefer a provider to maintain the underlying machine.
- You have confirmed that the exact pack build and loader are supported in your region and plan.
In either case, the technical rule is the same: match the pack’s Minecraft version, loader and server files, then keep every client on that same build. Self-hosting trades a monthly bill for administration; managed hosting trades some control for convenience. Neither option removes the need for backups, careful updates and a matching modpack.
