It shows whether each agent needs you, is working, or is done, and connects the selected terminal to a Files view for its working folder. It can make parallel agent sessions easier to monitor, but it is a visibility aid—not a diff viewer or an independent guarantee that an agent’s status is interpreted correctly.
What Airport does in VS Code
Airport can launch Claude Code, Codex, Devin, Antigravity, or a plain shell in VS Code terminals. Its sidebar groups those terminals so you can identify which session needs attention and select the session whose working folder you want to inspect in the Files view. You can duplicate a terminal, duplicate it with a different agent, rename its sidebar entry, and close the session. The Marketplace also says it can send operating-system notifications when a terminal needs input and offer to resume previous terminals when you reopen a workspace. These are capabilities described by the extension’s Marketplace listing, not independently verified performance claims.

Three status indicators
- Needs you: The agent appears blocked on a question or permission prompt.
- Working: The agent appears to be thinking or running a tool.
- Done: The agent has finished its turn and is idle.
The practical value is reducing the need to inspect every terminal tab just to find the one that may need a response. The Files view adds context about the selected terminal’s working folder; it does not by itself show a change-by-change diff.

Airport’s author, Vignaesh Ram A, says the extension watches terminal output through VS Code’s shell integration rather than parsing each agent’s proprietary output format: “Airport hooks into VS Code’s shell integration API to watch terminal output and infer agent status, rather than parsing agent-specific output formats.” That design helps explain both the broad range of supported agents and the dependency on shell integration: status is inferred from terminal activity, not supplied as a formal state by each agent.

Requirements and supported environments
The Marketplace listing specifies VS Code 1.93 or newer, a shell with VS Code shell integration, and the coding agent already installed and working in a regular terminal. Listed shells are bash, zsh, fish, PowerShell (pwsh), and cmd. The listing also says Airport works over SSH, WSL, and GitHub Codespaces; that compatibility statement is from the publisher, not an independent test.

If shell integration is unavailable, the terminal can still run, but Airport cannot display a status light. Install and verify the agent in your normal terminal first; Airport organizes VS Code terminal sessions rather than replacing the agent or installing it for you.
Where it fits in a multi-agent workflow
Airport is most relevant when you already run agents in VS Code terminals and find yourself asking, “Which files is this agent actually working on?” or whether a session is still thinking, waiting, or idle. A sidebar can make session state easier to scan, while the Files view helps associate the selected terminal with its working folder. That can be useful when agents are running across separate projects or workspaces.

- 5 in 1 Connectivity: The USB C Multiport Adapter is equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 100W USB C PD port, a 5 Gbps USB A data port, and two 480 Mbps USB A ports
It is not a demonstrated replacement for terminal multiplexers such as tmux or other agent managers: the cited product materials do not provide independent comparative benchmarks. The meaningful question is whether your work already centers on VS Code terminals and whether shell integration is available in your setup.
Limitations to know before relying on it
- No built-in diff viewer. The Marketplace says to use VS Code’s Source Control view when the terminal’s folder is also a workspace folder. Airport’s Files view and Source Control serve different needs: one helps orient you to the working folder, while the other is where you review source-control changes.
- Sidebar renames do not rename terminal tabs. Renaming an entry in Airport changes its sidebar label, not the underlying VS Code terminal tab, because of a VS Code API limitation.
- Resumed sessions may initially have no status. After a window reload, a resumed terminal has no status until it produces new output.
- Status is inferred. Because Airport watches terminal output, the indicator depends on shell integration and observed activity; it is not a direct, agent-reported status signal.
