For US shoppers, several manufacturer-listed air fryers currently fall below $250, but price alone does not identify the best fit. The most useful choice depends on the foods you cook, the portions you need to make at once, and whether a dual-basket design earns its extra counter space. One independent US test roundup names the Instant Vortex Plus Six-Quart its best overall; current manufacturer listings also put select COSORI, Ninja and Frigidaire models under budget.
Which air fryers under $250 are worth considering?
These are candidates, not a universal ranking: the Instant model is a test-based pick from one publisher, while the other listed prices and specifications come from manufacturers. Manufacturer claims do not establish how a model performs against competitors.

How much does a good air fryer cost?
The examples above show that the under-$250 budget spans a tested single-basket candidate, a single-basket model near the ceiling, and larger dual-basket options. Spending more within this range may buy a different layout or more capacity, but the product pages do not prove better results. Choose based on the cooking jobs and household size you need to serve, not a higher preset count or a bigger headline capacity.

What size air fryer do you need?
Match usable cooking area to the portions you typically prepare. Capacity labels alone do not tell you whether food will fit in a single layer or whether you will need multiple batches. CHOICE kitchen expert Fiona Mair notes that air fryers cannot cook huge quantities at once and advises choosing a capacity appropriate for the household. For dual-basket designs, consider whether cooking separate foods concurrently is useful enough to warrant the larger appliance; the official listings describe their layouts, not a performance advantage.
Counter space matters as much as basket volume. Mair also points out that air fryers take up substantial bench space and says it is more useful if the appliance can remain out for regular use. Measure the intended spot and consider whether the unit’s size will make you store it away instead.

How should you judge performance and everyday usability?
Look beyond presets. CHOICE says its testing includes frozen crumbed chicken and frozen chips, as well as roast pork and marinated chicken wings. It also evaluates usability factors such as controls, bulk and cleaning. Those categories offer a practical checklist: consider whether a model cooks your usual foods well, has understandable controls, fits your counter and is manageable to clean.

Food Network’s Instant Vortex Plus result is useful evidence, but it is specific to that publisher’s testing of more than 25 models and its chosen foods: fries, chicken and cake. It is not proof that the Instant will be best for every recipe, household or kitchen.

What does the Australian under-$250 coverage tell US shoppers?
CHOICE’s exact-topic article is Australian, last updated July 6, 2026. It says its experts reviewed 44 air fryers and benchtop ovens, but gates its winning under-$250 selections to members. Its publicly visible text identifies two models it advises against: Kitchen Couture Dual View Stainless Steel Air Fryer at A$200 with 67%, and Sunbeam Nutricrisp 17L Air Fryer Oven COM3600BK at A$149 with 69%. These are Australian listings and CHOICE test results; they should not be treated as US prices or as a complete ranking of the best models.

A practical way to choose
- Set the market and budget. The product prices in this guide are US-dollar listings; verify the current price and exact model before purchase.
- Choose the layout. A single basket may be simpler for one main food; dual baskets can separate foods and cook them concurrently, but take more room.
- Check portions and footprint. Consider your normal batch size, likely need for multiple rounds, and the counter space where the appliance will live.
- Prioritize your foods. Use the available test evidence as a reference, while recognizing that results for fries, chicken and cake may not predict every dish.
