In brief: AION 2 keeps recognizable class identities and faction conflict but shifts toward manual, action-oriented combat and adds new defensive mechanics and progression systems. Its roster and rules have changed through updates, so comparisons need a date: NCSOFT’s 2025 eight-class overview is not the same as the roster after the July 2026 Brawler release. The available original-game comparison is narrower, covering a particular AION Classic Europe patch rather than every version of AION.
How combat differs
AION 2: manual execution and evolving combat rules
NCSOFT’s June 2025 overview presented AION 2 as a manual-control, action-oriented game, listing hit confirmation and no auto-combat among the features announced at that time. The company described combat as faster and more dynamic, but did not provide a comparative test or metric; that wording is a developer characterization, not an independently measured result. Its August 2025 showcase grouped content into solo, group, competitive PvP, and casual play.

In March 2026, NCSOFT described a combat update that added class-specific Stigma skills and two precision-timed defensive mechanics: Perfect Shield Block and Perfect Parry. It also said PvP and PvE damage calculations were separated. These details make the comparison more specific than simply calling AION 2 “faster”: the announced direction emphasizes player input, while the later update documents additional defensive timing and separate combat calculations.

The AION comparison available here is based on Gameforge’s AION Classic Europe 4.0 skill patch notes. Those notes describe Gladiator as able to use various weapons and discuss changed combat patterns associated with expanded flight zones and faster combat. That is useful context for one class in one regional patch, but it cannot establish how all classes or every historical AION version played.

Classes and roles: use a dated roster
AION 2’s June 2025 overview
NCSOFT’s June 2025 class descriptions presented eight classes and their headline roles:
| Class in the June 2025 overview | Role or identity described by NCSOFT |
|---|---|
| Gladiator | Wide-area attacks |
| Templar | Tank |
| Assassin | Precision melee |
| Marksman | Long-range scout |
| Sorcerer | Burst magic |
| Spiritmaster | Solo play |
| Cleric | Improved damage |
| Chanter | Versatile support |
These are publisher descriptions from an announcement, not a current ranking of class strength. In its March 2026 update, NCSOFT named a new Stigma skill for each of eight classes, but used the labels Ranger and Elementalist where the 2025 overview had Marksman and Spiritmaster. The announcements do not resolve whether those differences reflect renamed classes, localization, or a regional naming distinction, so the names should be treated as differing snapshots rather than silently equated.

Brawler, added in July 2026
NCSOFT’s July 6, 2026 update added Brawler, a frontline class that fights with Gauntlets. Its basic attacks and active skills build Rage; reaching a threshold activates Rampage. The release also granted players one character slot for the new class. This addition is why the earlier eight-class overview should not be presented as the later roster.
No dated balance evidence here supports naming a universally best class. A useful choice depends on the activity—such as solo play, group support, PvE, or PvP—as well as the game version and region.

Progression systems and gates in AION 2
Leveling, skills, and new regions
NCSOFT’s July 2026 “Chapter 1. Lands of Sand and Snow” update raised the level cap to 50 and allowed Stigma skills to be enhanced up to level 25. It added Morheim for Asmodians and Eltnen for Elyos, as well as Sealed Dungeons, Strongholds, and Monoliths with progression rewards. The update also introduced Pendant equipment and Hero-grade Amulets and Belts.
Dungeon entry requirements and rewards
In that July 2026 update, NCSOFT set level 50 and item level 3,500 as the entry requirements for two named dungeons. Higher difficulty levels require higher item levels.

|---|---|---|
| Expedition | Citadel of the Fallen Daeva | Level 50 and item level 3,500 |
| Transcendence | Abyssal Horn Den | Level 50 and item level 3,500 |
The same update removed the former entry tickets for Expedition and Transcendence; rewards could instead be obtained through Odyle Energy. These requirements and reward rules describe the announced July 2026 version, not a timeless progression guide.

NCSOFT’s January 21, 2026 Season 2 update introduced gear Transfer. It allowed players to move Amplifier enhancement levels, upgrade stages, and Soul Binding effects from existing equipment to new gear. The announcement said each gear piece could be transferred up to six times. It also described expanded Soul Binding and Sync options.

Returning-player support
The July 2026 update announced returning-player packages purchasable with a shop token, offering combinations of equipment, content completion, growth materials, or currencies. These are specific support packages, not evidence that paying is generally required to progress.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.PvP and faction structure
AION 2’s faction rules are also update-sensitive. In March 2026, NCSOFT changed the Chaotic Abyss to server-level West and East forces rather than race-based factions. The same announcement said Spacetime Rift would continue to use race-based matchmaking. In other words, the update did not replace race-based organization everywhere; the structure depended on the activity.
World and setting claims to keep in context
NCSOFT’s June 2025 announcement set AION 2’s story 200 years after the original. It also described the world as “over 36 times larger than the original game” and announced “over 200 dungeons.” These are the publisher’s announced figures; the cited overview does not give a measurement method for the world-size comparison or establish those counts as independently verified current totals.
Quick Recap
What this means when choosing between them
- Combat: AION 2’s announced approach centers on manual input, with Perfect Shield Block and Perfect Parry documented in the March 2026 update. The available AION Classic Europe evidence is a specific patch description, not a full historical comparison.
- Classes: Familiar identities such as Gladiator, Templar, Assassin, Cleric, and Chanter appear in AION 2’s announcements, but roster labels and class count must be dated; Brawler arrived in July 2026.
- Progression: AION 2’s level cap, Stigma enhancement, dungeon requirements, and gear-transfer rules are version-specific. The 2026 updates supply concrete examples, rather than a permanent progression specification.
- PvP: Faction organization can differ by activity, as the March 2026 distinction between Chaotic Abyss and Spacetime Rift shows.
