NCSOFT says it takes place 200 years after the original and has a world more than 36 times larger. The global PC version launched October 5, 2026, on Steam and PURPLE.
Is AION 2 a sequel or a remake?
It is a sequel. NCSOFT places the story 200 years after the original AION, continuing its fantasy world rather than rebuilding the first game as a modernized version. The original’s history and faction conflict remain part of the premise, but the new setting gives the developers room to change how players move through and interact with the world. NCSOFT’s 2025 feature announcement describes the time jump and the sequel’s central design goals.

NCSOFT also describes AION 2’s world as more than 36 times larger than the original’s. That is the publisher’s comparison, not an independently measured map-size result. It should be read alongside another important caveat: AION has received many updates over its lifetime, so comparisons depend on which version of the original is used.

The most visible shift is the emphasis on moving freely through the environment. NCSOFT says AION 2 offers aerial freedom in each region and underwater exploration, which it identifies as absent from the original. The sequel is designed around walking, flying, and swimming across areas that players can see, rather than treating flight as the only distinctive form of traversal.

- For use in the in-game shop
- Can be used for Daeva Pass to get exclusive daily, weekly, and seasonal quests and rewards
- Can be used for in-game packs and character boosts
That ambition changes exploration from a way to get between quests into a core part of the world design. A larger map matters most when players can reach its heights and underwater spaces, although the scale claim alone does not establish how dense or varied each area is.
What changed in combat and classes?
AION 2 retains the original’s recognizable class archetypes while shifting combat toward manual control and hit confirmation. NCSOFT’s announced design does not include auto-combat. The aim is to make timing and player input more central than simply selecting a target and relying on automated attacks.

The initial eight-class roster
NCSOFT’s 2025 feature announcement named eight classes:
Recommended Free Tools
- Gladiator
- Templar
- Assassin
- Marksman
- Sorcerer
- Spiritmaster
- Cleric
- Chanter
These preserve familiar roles for players who know AION, but the sequel is not a static copy of the original class system. NCSOFT’s later class updates include balancing and new skills, so the live game has moved on from the preview-era roster description. The company’s class update is a better guide to ongoing changes than the original announcement alone.

How does AION 2 handle dungeons and other content?
The sequel is presented as more than a dungeon-focused game. Its content mix includes solo activities, party instances, competitive PvP, casual modes, and open-world events. NCSOFT’s August 2025 recap highlighted Fire Temple as a reimagined dungeon, and the official AION 2 site lists expeditions including Fire Temple and other dungeons.
The number often attached to the game’s dungeon offering needs context: NCSOFT announced more than 200 dungeons in 2025, spanning solo content and groups of four or eight. That was a preview-era promise, not a verified count of the current live dungeon catalog. The announcement is useful for understanding the intended breadth of instance content, but it should not be treated as a present-day total.

Do Elyos and Asmodians still matter?
Yes. The Elyos–Asmodian conflict remains part of AION 2’s identity. However, not every PvP mode is organized around those race-based factions. NCSOFT’s March 2026 update describes Chaotic Abyss as dividing players into server-level West and East forces, while Spacetime Rift retains race-based matchmaking. That means faction identity persists, but the game can use other team structures for particular activities. NCSOFT’s March 2026 update outlines those distinctions.
What are the platform and release details?
The global service launched on October 5, 2026, for PC through Steam and NCSOFT’s PURPLE platform. NCSOFT reported servers in North America, South America, Europe, and Japan. This global release followed the game’s November 19, 2025 launch in Korea and Taiwan. The official global site confirms the October 5 launch date, and NCSOFT’s global launch report describes the PC service and regions.

Monetization details should be treated as regional and time-specific, rather than assumed to be identical across versions. In August 2025, producer Namjoon Kim described trading as allowing players to exchange items using in-game currency rather than premium currency. That statement explains the announced trade design at that point; it does not guarantee that every later market rule or global-version economy works the same way.
In June 2026, NCSOFT said the Korea/Taiwan membership system had been consolidated from three tiers to one. That change is specific to those regions. The cited official information does not establish full global store, membership, or monetization terms. For current details, consult the store and membership information for the region and platform where you play. NCSOFT’s June 2026 membership update describes the Korea/Taiwan change.

Should an AION player expect the same game?
Expect recognizable foundations—especially the factions and class identities—but a different emphasis. AION 2 puts more weight on free movement through a large world, manual combat, and a varied slate of instance and PvP modes. It is best understood as a follow-up that carries forward the original’s identity while changing how exploration and combat are meant to feel, rather than as a remake or a simple continuation of one launch-era AION build.
