Use a training dummy to compare rotations and build changes under repeatable conditions; use live enemies to find out whether those results hold up amid movement, mechanics, survival demands, and party play. A dummy result is a useful controlled comparison—not a guaranteed prediction of boss damage or a universal build ranking.
What each test can tell you
Training dummies: repeatability
A stationary target helps you check whether you can execute a rotation consistently, align skills and cooldowns, and reduce avoidable downtime. Repeat the same trial and compare the sequence as well as its damage output. Orbynia Live, for example, describes reviewing skill breakdowns and comparing training-dummy attempts, though it is a vendor-described tool rather than independent verification of measurement accuracy: Orbynia Live.

Live enemies: encounter performance
Real encounters introduce factors a stationary trial cannot reproduce: targets move or change, mechanics interrupt your sequence, positioning affects uptime, and defensive choices may take priority over damage. In a group, useful contribution also includes handling enemy attention, recovery, utility, and safe positioning. A live result therefore describes performance in that activity and context, not an isolated rotation score. The official AION 2 site describes a range of PvE activity, from solo instances to raids; the activity you intend to play is the right place to validate a build.

A practical method for testing a build
- Define one question. Decide whether you are testing a rotation, gear or stat change, skill specialization, burst timing, survivability, or contribution in a live encounter. Changing several things at once makes the result difficult to interpret.
- Record the baseline. Note your class, level, gear, skills and specializations, game region and patch, target, buffs, test duration, and whether the trial is solo or grouped. This is a comparison method, not an official in-game protocol.
- Run a repeatable dummy trial. Use the same target and conditions for several attempts. Compare output and execution: missed skills, gaps between actions, cooldown alignment, and whether you can reproduce the sequence. Treat the result as a relative signal under those conditions, not a live-boss damage estimate.
- Change one variable. Swap one item, skill choice, or part of the rotation, then repeat the baseline trial without changing other conditions. This makes it more plausible that the change—not a different setup—explains the difference.
- Validate in the intended activity. Test the promising setup against the relevant live content. Alongside damage, note uptime, movement losses, time out of range, survival, mechanic handling, and useful party contribution.
- Keep PvE and PvP results separate. NCSOFT said its March 25, 2026 class update separated PvP and PvE damage calculations and adjusted class balance. A result in one mode should not be treated as a verdict for the other. See the official update.
- Retest after balance changes. Record the region and patch with your notes. Class tuning can change comparisons, and dummy behavior can also vary by region or update.
Compare the tests without treating them as the same score
| What to compare | Dummy trial | Live-enemy validation |
|---|---|---|
| Main purpose | Compare rotations and build changes under repeatable conditions. | Check performance under the demands of the intended encounter. |
| Target | Record which dummy you used. | Record the enemy or activity; target conditions differ. |
| Execution | Look for a repeatable skill sequence and avoidable downtime. | Account for movement, target changes, mechanics, and time out of range. |
| Damage interpretation | A relative signal under the specific test conditions. | An activity-specific result shaped by the encounter and target. |
| Survival and utility | Limited unless the dummy has relevant behavior. | Include defensive decisions and the build’s group role. |
| Reproducibility | Repeat the same trial with the same conditions. | Compare similar pulls where practical and note group and encounter variation. |
This is a practical comparison framework, not an official in-game scoring rubric.

Why dummy damage and boss damage can differ
Damage depends on the target and test conditions, so a dummy number should not be converted directly into a predicted boss number. Aion 2 Maps reports that, with the same gear, Damage Boost measured 0.40% per 1% on a dummy and 0.53% on a boss. Those are community-reported test results, not universal coefficients: the guide presents its formula as a working community model, not an official NCSOFT formula, and target, method, region, and patch matter. See the community damage guide.
There is no authoritative universal DPS target, official dummy-to-boss conversion, or best build for every class and encounter established by these sources. Aion 2 Maps describes its damage formula as community work, while the AION 2 Wiki party guide avoids claiming a universal best party, damage threshold, or build.

Check which dummy your client provides
A July 22, 2026 report on a Korea patch says some town and Legion-base dummies were replaced with attack-skill dummies that use skills when a player is nearby. This could make them useful for testing reactions, but the report is regional: check the dummy and current patch in your own client rather than assuming the feature is available everywhere. See the Korea patch report.

Know an overlay’s limits
Orbynia Live lists attempt comparison, fight history, and skill breakdowns for its Windows overlay, and says HPS, aDPS, and rDPS are unavailable. Its feature description does not establish independent accuracy, so treat captured values as a way to inspect your own attempts, not as an official benchmark. Check the current feature set and compatibility before relying on it.
