What is the difference between Elyos and Asmodians in AION 2?
Elyos and Asmodians are the game’s two opposing factions. NCSOFT says each begins in a separate region, and the story leads into large-scale Realm-versus-Realm (RvR) battles. The conflict is a core part of the AION franchise returning in AION 2, not just a cosmetic character choice.

Likewise, the available initial class announcement does not prove that every class or ability is currently identical or available to both factions. NCSOFT’s June 2025 overview introduced eight playable classes, but that launch-era reveal is not a current faction-by-faction class comparison. Check current official class and character-creation information for the class you want.
How much does faction choice matter for PvP?
The Abyss makes the choice relevant
NCSOFT describes the Abyss as a competitive battlefield for race-based PvP, where players contest field bosses, artifacts, and Abyss Points. If you want faction battles to be a major part of your play, your choice can affect which side you fight for and the opponents you face.

Server matching can change the experience
Server balance is managed over time, so a PvP decision should account for current conditions rather than a faction’s reputation. NCSOFT’s February 11, 2026 update described a server-matching round that considered Abyss eliminations, server combat participation, Artifact Siege performance, and overall battle engagement. It also described an Abyss Corridor access measure when a faction fell significantly behind 3:0 in siege results. These are dated examples of balancing measures, not a guarantee that the same rules or pairings remain in effect. Check the latest official notices for your region and server before deciding.

How to choose your faction
- Start with your group. If friends or a guild have already chosen a faction and server, joining them is often the most practical choice. Check current server availability and character-creation rules at the time you make your character.
- Pick the setting and identity you prefer. Each faction has a separate starting region. Choose the side whose theme and opening area interest you; the official announcements do not supply a complete current comparison of both storylines.
- Check PvP conditions if they matter to you. Review current server matching and siege information rather than relying on past results, population guesses, or claims that one side is always stronger.
- Choose a class from current information. Use the latest official class descriptions, then confirm that your preferred class is available to your chosen faction in current game materials.
- Treat appearance as a preference, not an advantage. Visual design is subjective; the cited official material does not establish a gameplay benefit for either faction’s look.
What the official AION 2 overview establishes
NCSOFT’s June 4, 2025 overview described AION 2 as taking place 200 years after the original AION and said its world was over 36 times larger than the original game. It also introduced eight playable classes at that time. Those figures describe the 2025 announcement; the class count should not be read as a statement of the current total.

For the faction decision, the most useful points are simpler: Elyos and Asmodians start in separate regions, their conflict feeds into RvR, and the Abyss provides faction PvP. No named independent faction-population statistic or comparative win-rate figure is established by the cited material, so neither can support a claim that one faction is the better bet.
