If you want a simple solo melee start, an independent beginner guide recommends Gladiator; for ranged damage, it recommends Ranger; and for solo play, NCSOFT’s earlier class overview describes Spiritmaster as optimized for it. Those are starting points, not a permanent ranking. Choose by the kind of combat and group role you want, and check the current client’s class names and skills before committing.
Which AION 2 class should a beginner pick?
Start with your preferred range and role rather than a universal tier list. The recommendations below combine official role descriptions with subjective advice from an independent beginner guide; NCSOFT has not published a comparative beginner difficulty ranking.

| Your preference | Starting point | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Solo melee and a straightforward start | Gladiator | An independent beginner guide updated October 4, 2026 calls Gladiator its simplest pick. That is editorial advice, not an official ranking. |
| Ranged damage | Ranger | The same guide suggests Ranger for players who prefer range. An earlier NCSOFT overview uses the name Marksman; see the naming note below. |
| Solo play | Spiritmaster | NCSOFT’s earlier overview calls Spiritmaster “Optimized for solo play.” A March 2026 update uses the name Elementalist instead, so verify the current global-client name. |
| Tanking and protecting a group | Templar | NCSOFT identifies Templar as the core tank. Choose it if you want that responsibility in group content. |
| Healing | Cleric | NCSOFT describes Cleric as capable of healing and damage. Its January 2026 update also announced class adjustments focused on Cleric and Templar. |
| Flexible multiplayer support | Chanter | NCSOFT describes Chanter as versatile support with multiplayer utility. |
| Technical melee or spell play | Assassin or Sorcerer | The reviewed official announcements do not rank either for beginners. Pick the style that interests you and inspect the current skill descriptions. |
What makes a class easier for a beginner?
Decide whether you want melee or range
Melee puts you close to enemies; ranged classes let you attack from farther away. The independent beginner guide recommends Gladiator as a simple solo melee choice and Ranger for ranged play, but these are subjective starting points rather than developer findings.

Choose solo or group play
NCSOFT’s class descriptions give a useful role signal: its earlier overview marks Spiritmaster for solo play, Templar as the core tank, and Chanter as support with multiplayer utility. A class’s role can affect what teammates expect from you, especially when tanking, healing, or supporting.

Account for active combat
NCSOFT says AION 2 uses manual combat and has no auto-combat. That makes your comfort with active play and class-specific mechanics relevant to the choice; it does not establish that one class is objectively easier. NCSOFT also said Easy Mode instance dungeons were tailored for newcomers.
Why do class names differ between official updates?
NCSOFT’s June 2025 class overview lists eight classes: Gladiator, Templar, Assassin, Marksman, Sorcerer, Spiritmaster, Cleric, and Chanter. Its March 2026 update names Ranger and Elementalist where the earlier overview used Marksman and Spiritmaster. The cited announcements do not explain whether this reflects localization, regional naming, or a change to the live global roster. Check the class names shown in your client rather than assuming the older list is current.
Rank #2
Can you rely on a beginner tier list?
No tier list should be treated as permanent. In March 2026, NCSOFT announced a comprehensive class rebalance, new Stigma skills for every class, and separate PvP and PvE damage calculations. Its January 2026 Season 2 announcement described adjustments focused on Templar and Cleric. Those changes make dated rankings especially unsuitable as a universal answer for every mode.

The reviewed official sources do not provide class win rates, DPS comparisons, or beginner success statistics. They establish class roles and announced balance changes, not a measured difficulty order. Use recommendations as a way to narrow your options, then compare the current in-game skill descriptions with the role you want to play.

How to decide which class to main
- Choose your preferred range: decide whether you want to fight up close or attack from farther away.
- Choose your main activity: consider whether you expect to play mostly solo or in groups.
- Choose your responsibility: decide whether you want to focus on damage, tanking, healing, or support.
- Check the current client: confirm the class name and read its current skills, particularly if you are comparing Ranger with Marksman or Elementalist with Spiritmaster.
- Try the style that appeals to you: manual combat means your comfort with its active mechanics matters; no official beginner ranking can substitute for that preference.
