If your library is mostly Steam games that run well on SteamOS, the Steam Deck may be the better-value, easier-to-use choice.
Which MSI Claw and Steam Deck are being compared?
The specific MSI in this recommendation is the Claw 8 EX AI+ CG3EM, listed by MSI’s US store as model CG3EM-024US: MSI Claw 8 EX AI+ CG3EM-024US. MSI’s Claw 8 AI+ A2VM is a different model, so its published specifications and battery claim should not be treated as confirmed specifications or results for the EX. Why I’d pick the Claw 8 EX AI+
Windows opens up a broader PC-game and store choice
The Claw 8 AI+ runs Windows 11, while the Steam Deck runs SteamOS. That distinction matters if the games you want are spread across different PC stores or depend on Windows compatibility. It does not guarantee that every game will work equally well on either handheld: check each important title’s current compatibility and any launcher or anti-cheat requirements before buying. A Windows interface can also feel less purpose-built for handheld play than the Steam-focused Deck interface.

Its performance reputation is compelling, but not a head-to-head result
Reviews of the Claw 8 EX AI+ describe it as a high-performance handheld. TechRadar highlights performance while calling the price expensive; PC Gamer also praises its performance and Endurance Mode, but flags a near-$2,000 launch cost. Those are review judgments about the EX model, not a controlled, current test against a Steam Deck OLED using the same games and settings. They support considering the Claw for performance, not assuming a particular frame-rate advantage in your games.
Price determines whether the preference makes sense
The Claw’s performance appeal does not make it an automatic bargain. MSI’s US store identifies the CG3EM-024US product, but the available listing did not establish a current price or stock status. No verified Prime Day offer for this model is established, either. Check the live listing for your country and confirm it is the EX AI+ CG3EM configuration—not the A2VM or another Claw—before treating a displayed discount as relevant.

Compare the actual checkout price with the Steam Deck configuration you would buy, and include your priorities: game compatibility, interface, screen, controls, and the retailer’s return terms. I’d take the Claw if the price gap is acceptable for the performance and Windows access I want. If it is close to its high launch positioning while the Deck costs substantially less, the Claw’s advantages may not justify the premium for a Steam-focused player.
Battery claims are not directly comparable
MSI advertises “4Hrs+ Gameplay Lifetime” in Endurance Mode for the Claw 8 AI+ A2VM, which has an 80 Wh battery and an 8-inch display. This is MSI’s claim for that model and mode; it is not an established runtime for the Claw 8 EX AI+.

Valve lists a 40 Wh battery and “2 – 8 hours” of gameplay for the Steam Deck, noting that runtime depends on content. Valve’s figure is not an OLED-specific battery specification, and its range is not a directly comparable test against MSI’s A2VM Endurance Mode claim. For the EX model, TechRadar reports its own gaming battery benchmark; that review result is not a runtime guarantee for every game, setting, or use pattern.
