A single prompt can start an AI-generated website, but it does not establish that the result is complete or ready to publish. The available evidence for this topic does not document the specific builder, prompt, or failure implied by “I tried”—so it would be misleading to claim that a particular feature broke. What vendor documentation does show is that generation is one stage in a workflow that can also involve editing, review, and publishing setup.
Can AI build a whole website from one prompt?
AI website tools can generate a site from a description, but “generate a site” and “deliver a finished website” are different claims. Wix says its AI Website Builder can create structure, pages, copy, and visuals from a description, then lets users make customizations or request changes conversationally. Those are Wix’s descriptions of its product, not an independent assessment of the quality or completeness of every generated site. Wix AI Website Builder

Other tools describe related workflows. Framer says users can begin with a prompt, brief, blank canvas, or early idea, then refine the result in its canvas; it also describes components, CMS, hosting, SEO controls, analytics, and publishing tools. Lovable says users can build through chat and subsequently change copy, images, pages, and sections. These feature descriptions do not prove that a generated site will meet a particular business’s requirements or that integrations will work correctly in an untested project. Framer AI · Lovable

Why one sentence leaves important decisions open
A short request can identify the general kind of site someone wants, but it may not specify the details needed to shape a useful result: who the audience is, what the business offers, which pages are required, what visual style fits, and what the site should help visitors do.
Wix’s prompt guide recommends providing business and audience information, a style direction, and requested pages. That guidance points to a practical limit of one-sentence prompting: omitted requirements remain decisions for the builder, the user, or later revisions. A generated draft can therefore be a starting point without being a complete brief translated perfectly into a finished site. Wix’s AI website builder prompt guide
What still needs review before publishing?
Wix’s guide says completing a publish-ready site can involve design customization, copy editing, connecting a domain, and SEO setup. It estimates that this work “typically takes one to three hours depending on how detailed your site needs to be.” That is Wix’s own guidance, not an independently measured benchmark or a guarantee for every project. For any generated site, judge completion against the requirements that matter for its intended use. Check that the requested pages and information are present, that the copy and visuals are appropriate, and that the publishing and site-management tasks you need are available. Product documentation can describe tools and workflows, but it cannot establish that a particular generated site is accurate, accessible, secure, or otherwise fit for purpose.

Revision options differ by platform, so the ability to prompt a first draft should not be treated as proof that every design choice can later be changed freely. Wix Help Center documents one specific constraint: “If you created a site with the AI Website Builder, you cannot change it to a different template.” Check the current Wix Help Center guidance before relying on that limitation, since platform behavior can change.

Framer describes refining a site in a canvas, while Lovable describes changing copy, images, pages, and sections through its chat-oriented workflow. Those are different approaches to revision, not evidence of a comparative winner. Before committing to a workflow, confirm that its editing controls cover the kinds of changes your site is likely to need.

No test record establishes which builder or prompt was used, what site it generated, or what—if anything—failed. There is no verified basis here to name a broken layout, link, form, or other defect, or to describe repairs as firsthand experience. The defensible conclusion is narrower: vendor materials describe prompt-based generation, while also describing editing and publishing work that can follow it. A one-sentence request alone cannot demonstrate that the resulting site is complete.
