AI Video Upscaling Software: 3 Options for Desktop, Open-Source, and Online Workflows

AI video upscaling spans desktop software, open-source frameworks, and online services. Compare three documented options and learn what their pricing and evidence do—and do not—show.

AI video upscaling tools do not all work the same way: Topaz Video is desktop software, Video2X is an open-source framework, and AIUpscaler.video is a browser service that sells credits. The available evidence does not support a reliable seven-product ranking or a claim that one tool produces the best results. Choose by workflow, processing location, cost, and the condition of your footage—and test a short representative clip before committing.

What AI video upscaling can—and cannot—do

Upscaling enlarges a video’s output dimensions. AI models may synthesize plausible detail or reduce visible noise and artifacts, but they cannot guarantee recovery of detail that the original recording never captured. A larger file is not automatically a more faithful one, and footage that is already clean may not benefit from aggressive enhancement.

Topaz Labs describes Topaz Video as “a professional-grade desktop application for enhancing video quality using multiple advanced AI models.” The company says it can sharpen footage, remove noise and artifacts, restore detail, stabilize shaky video, and upscale files. These are vendor-described capabilities, not independent comparative test results. No reproducible quality ranking or comparative performance statistic is established here.

Which kind of tool fits your workflow?

Option What it is Access and cost information Best fit and caveat
Topaz Video Desktop video-enhancement software with vendor-described upscaling and other enhancement tools. Topaz Labs’ pricing page, accessed October 7, 2026, lists Mac and PC plans at $299/year or $39/month with an annual commitment, or $59/month month-to-month. Prices can change. Consider it if you want a desktop workflow and its listed enhancement features. These capabilities are vendor claims, not an independent quality verdict.
Video2X An open-source framework for machine-learning video super-resolution and frame interpolation. The project repository lists the GNU AGPL version 3 license. No paid plan or equivalent commercial desktop price is established here. Consider it if you are comfortable following project documentation and working with a framework. Do not assume it is beginner-friendly or equal in output quality to a commercial application.
AIUpscaler.video A browser-based service whose page lists Video2X or Topaz Enhance processing choices. The vendor lists one-time packs of $9.90 for 600 credits, $19.90 for 1,600 credits, and $49.90 for 5,000 credits. It says credits do not expire and new subscriptions are no longer offered. These are vendor statements and a price snapshot; confirm current terms. Consider it if you prefer an online service and credit-based access. Its pricing and file or duration limits are not equivalent to local desktop software.

How Topaz Video pricing and cloud options differ

Topaz Labs’ pricing page, accessed October 7, 2026, lists Topaz Video for Mac and PC at $299 per year, $39 per month with an annual commitment, or $59 per month on a month-to-month basis. It also lists Topaz for Web Video at $199 per year, discounted from $299, or $19 per month, discounted from $29. These web prices were shown as discounted on that date; check the vendor page for current offers.

ASUS Dual Radeon RX 9060 XT 16GB GDDR6 Gaming Graphics Card | PCIe 5.0, HDMI 2.1b, DisplayPort 2.1a, 2.5-slot design, Axial-tech Fans, 0dB Technology
  • Axial-tech fans now feature a smaller fan hub that facilitates longer blades and a barrier ring that increases downward air pressure
  • 2.5-slot design allows for greater build compatibility while maintaining cooling performance
  • 0dB technology lets you enjoy light gaming in relative silence
  • Dual BIOS switch lets you toggle between Quiet and Performance BIOS profiles
  • Dual ball fan bearings last up to twice as long as sleeve bearing designs

The same page lists Topaz Studio at $399 per year, including 300 monthly video cloud credits, and says local desktop rendering is unlimited. The Pro offering has different commercial-use terms and increased credits. Do not assume personal or small-organization terms cover a commercial operation; check the license that applies to your use before purchasing.

A free Premiere panel is not free processing

Topaz also offers a free UXP panel for Adobe Premiere. Its FAQ says processing runs through Topaz Cloud and requires paid cloud credits, so the panel itself does not make upscaling free. Confirm the current credit and processing terms on the Topaz Premiere Panel page.

  • Server-grade Thermal Conductive Gel

What “free” means for these options

  • Open-source framework: Video2X is distributed under GNU AGPL version 3 according to its project repository. Review the current documentation, installation instructions, and license to determine whether it suits your technical and use requirements.
  • Free interface, paid service: Topaz’s Premiere panel is free to obtain, but its cloud processing requires paid credits.
  • Credit-based service: AIUpscaler.video lists one-time credit packs rather than a currently offered new subscription. Its page says credits do not expire; that is a vendor statement and may change.

The available information does not establish comparable free tiers, trial limits, watermarks, export caps, operating-system support, hardware requirements, or commercial-use terms for every option. Verify those details directly before selecting a workflow rather than treating a trial, free interface, open-source license, and hosted free tier as interchangeable.

Check usage rights for online processing

AIUpscaler.video says its credit packs permit commercial use when you own the source video or have a license that covers commercial use. The vendor also notes that processing a third-party video does not grant rights to that source material. Check the service’s current terms and make sure you have permission to use the footage before uploading or publishing an enhanced version.

A practical way to choose

  1. Identify the problem in the source. Decide whether you need a larger output, noise or artifact cleanup, sharpening, stabilization, or frame interpolation. Do not assume every tool addresses every issue.
  2. Choose where processing happens. Topaz Video is a desktop product; Video2X is a framework; AIUpscaler.video is a browser service. If local versus cloud processing matters for privacy, connectivity, or workflow, confirm exactly how the selected plan handles files.
  3. Match the setup to your technical comfort. For Video2X, read the current repository documentation before installing. For commercial software or an online service, verify platform support, plan limits, and the terms that apply to your use.
  4. Compare the actual cost model. A subscription, a credit pack, and an open-source project are different ways to access software. Estimate how much footage you expect to process and confirm current pricing before buying.
  5. Run a short test on representative footage. Compare the output with the original at the size you plan to view or deliver. Look for invented-looking detail, amplified noise, halos, motion artifacts, and unwanted changes—not just a larger resolution label.

Why this is not a seven-tool ranking

A useful “best” comparison would need current, verified information for each candidate on product type, operating systems, hardware, free and trial restrictions, processing location, workflow features, licensing, and reproducible results on comparable footage. That evidence is not established for seven products here. AVCLabs Video Enhancer AI is identifiable from an official search result as a related product, but current store pricing and terms were not confirmed; there is not enough verified detail to recommend it as a ranked entry. Naming four more products or assigning performance scores without comparable evidence would make the list look more conclusive than it is.
