AI: The Somnium Files rewards careful investigation and deliberate choices in its dream sequences. Check people and objects for clues, use Aiba’s vision modes as investigation tools, and manage the six-minute Somnium timer. Somnium results can open different story routes, and the game lets you redo a dream at a divergence to pursue another route.

How to investigate without overlooking clues
Investigation scenes are where you question people and inspect objects to collect evidence. Aiba, the artificial eye in Date’s left eye socket, provides three vision modes: Zoom, Thermo, and X-ray. Use them as tools while examining a scene, but do not assume a specific mode will expose a particular clue in every situation.
- Talk to the people available in the scene; conversations can provide clues.
- Inspect objects as well as people. The official overview identifies both as clue-gathering actions.
- Use Aiba’s vision modes when examining a scene, then apply the evidence you have gathered to investigation prompts.
- In interactive scenes, pay attention to button prompts: the correct input can change the outcome.
Spike Chunsoft’s investigation-system overview describes conversations, object inspection, Aiba’s modes, evidence, and interactive scenes.

Somnium guide: make the six-minute limit count
Somnium takes place in a subject’s dream. You search for clues and unlock Mental Locks that obstruct access to memories. The Psyncer has a six-minute limit, and actions consume time, so every choice uses part of a fixed budget.
- Keep the timer in view and consider the time cost before taking optional actions.
- Choose actions that address the obstacle currently in front of you rather than treating every available interaction as equally urgent.
- An incorrect choice may provide a hint. If one appears, use it to adjust your next decision; a hint is not guaranteed after every mistake.
The time-management suggestions are practical deductions from the published timer and action-cost rules, not a scene-by-scene solution. See Spike Chunsoft’s Somnium system overview for the stated limit, Mental Locks, hints, and route branching.

What to do when the story branches
Somnium results affect which story route opens. At a divergence point, you can redo the Somnium to progress along another route; you do not have to restart the game blindly to explore a different outcome. The publisher describes the relationship directly: “The story route branches differently based on the results of the Somnium.”
