It does not guarantee fewer hours of downtime: available evidence does not establish a universal model or a general percentage reduction. Operators need to test alerts against their own service records and measure availability and repair time alongside operational changes.
How can predictive maintenance reduce e-scooter downtime?
A predictive-maintenance system looks for signs that a scooter may need attention and helps staff prioritize an inspection or repair. Used well, it can move work from reactive breakdown response toward planned servicing. The alert is only the first step: downtime falls only if a technician can diagnose the issue, parts are available, and the repair or battery workflow returns the scooter to service promptly.

Fleet decisions are connected. A scooter flagged for service may need to be removed from availability, while other vehicles need charging, relocation, or a battery swap to meet expected demand. Chalmers’ FEAT project describes this as a joint fleet-control problem involving energy and service levels, with machine-learning models and routing algorithms supporting charging, relocation, and battery swapping. That is a framework for fleet decisions, not evidence that one predictive model works across operators.
What data can help identify maintenance needs?
Operators can combine vehicle status and usage information with battery condition, maintenance records, and demand patterns to help decide which vehicles to inspect and when to schedule work. The value depends on having records detailed enough to connect an alert with a fault and an eventual repair outcome.

- Vehicle and usage records: status, trips, duration, and distance can help describe how a scooter is being used. The UK Department for Transport’s England monitoring publication reports availability and use measures, but it is not a detailed maintenance-event dataset.
- Battery information: condition, charging or swapping history, repairability, and traceable repair records can inform battery servicing decisions.
- Service history: inspection findings, diagnosed faults, parts used, repair start and completion times, and return-to-service status help operators check whether alerts predict actionable problems.
- Demand patterns: expected service needs by time and location can inform when to inspect, charge, swap batteries, or relocate vehicles.
The reviewed sources do not establish a universal sensor package, model architecture, or threshold for taking a scooter out of service. Operators should validate diagnostic access and alert quality for their own vehicle models and operating conditions rather than assume that a model transfers unchanged.
How should an operator measure downtime?
Define the outcome before evaluating a system. Trip counts or trips per scooter do not show how much time vehicles were ready to rent or out of service. The DfT’s England monitoring publication lists scooter counts and trip measures; it excludes London and covers January 2022 through May 2024. A separate study summary describes a time-based measure that distinguishes used, parked, and out-of-service scooters.

- Available time: time a scooter is ready for rental, using a consistent fleet and time-period denominator.
- Out-of-service time: time removed from rental availability for maintenance, a fault, or another defined reason.
- Repair turnaround: elapsed time from removal or fault report to return to service.
- Battery-related removals: removals and unavailable time attributable to charging, swapping, or battery repair.
- Maintenance interventions: inspections, repairs, and other service actions, counted consistently.
Report the denominator and period for each measure. For example, trips per scooter per day and the share of fleet time available for hire describe different outcomes and cannot be substituted for one another. A before-and-after comparison is more informative when it also tracks fleet composition, demand, battery logistics, relocation, technician capacity, and other changes that could affect availability.

1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesWhat published figures do—and do not—show
Published examples illustrate why figures need to remain attached to their operator, geography, method, and measurement period. They are not transferable downtime forecasts for a different fleet.

| 2024 study summary in TRID, based on February 2021 Helbiz data from Atlanta and Rome | Time-based utilization estimates of 0.2021% in Atlanta and 0.3310% in Rome; out-of-service vehicle shares exceeded 25% in both cities. | Specific operator, cities, period, and method; not a current fleet benchmark or proof that predictive maintenance caused the results. |
| MOBIRE battery-repair project, as described by EIT Urban Mobility | NOWOS CEO and founder Prins Doornekamp attributed a 30% cost reduction to repairable batteries and an optimized repair process. | A project/company cost claim, not a general estimate of downtime reduction. |
| MOBIRE battery-repair project, as described by EIT Urban Mobility | Battery repair was reported to save 2.28 times the emissions compared with buying new batteries, based on a lifecycle assessment. | Attribute the comparison to the reported assessment; it does not establish the same result for every battery, repair process, or electricity mix. |
| OECD/ITF 2024 report on shared micromobility | Usable vehicle lifespans were described as roughly tripled since the ITF’s 2020 assessment. | The report discusses more durable and modular construction and improved documentation, as well as operational changes; it does not attribute the increase to predictive maintenance alone. |
| EY case study of Voi in Paris | Voi’s latest swappable scooter model was reported as expected to have a 24-month operational lifespan. | A company-specific expectation in a case study, not a universal scooter specification or independent fleet-wide estimate. |
Why batteries and repair workflows matter
Battery servicing can affect how long a scooter is unavailable and how much technician effort a fleet requires. EIT Urban Mobility describes the MOBIRE project as establishing a lithium-ion battery repair hub in Poland and implementing a battery passport system to track repair history, compliance, and lifecycle. The project page says improved battery management can make vehicle downtime more predictable. Those are descriptions of a particular initiative, not a quantified general effect of predictive maintenance.
The OECD/ITF’s 2024 report discusses battery swapping and reduced servicing interventions among the changes that can affect operations and lifecycle impacts. Its lifecycle comparison includes a 70% electric-vehicle-share assumption for maintenance, battery swapping, repositioning, and other fleet operations; that figure is an assumption in the comparison, not a universal observed fleet share.

In EY’s Voi Paris case study, predictive-maintenance software and local repair teams are part of the approach described for extending vehicle life, while battery swapping is said to shorten downtime. These case-study details illustrate a combined operating model; they do not isolate the effect of predictive-maintenance software.
How to evaluate a fleet-management approach
Evaluate the operating workflow, not just whether software produces alerts. A useful assessment considers:
Best Value
- 1. ✅【Safety-First Engineering】 "Built-in 30A BMS ensures overcharge/discharge protection, temperature control, and short-circuit prevention. Durable casing with flame-retardant materials enhances safety during operation
- 2. ✅【Efficient and Compatible Design】 ✅ Easy to install on Jetson Bolt Pro, withIncludes XT60 discharge connector, SM charging connector, quick connection with your controller,(Size:7.48x2.75x2.75 inches)
- 3. ✅【Efficient and Compatible Design】 ✅ 【Plug and play convenience】- Lightweight waterproof shell design (IP54 protection level), equipped with intelligent charging interface, supports fast charging technology, and can quickly recover energy in 4 hours
- 4. ✅【Universal Compatibility & Smart Integration】 "this battery seamlessly integrates with various 36V motor systems and DIY projects. Note: Verify device voltage requirements before use
- 5. ✅【Multi-Device Application】 Compact design allows flexible installation in tight spaces
- Availability: ready-to-rent time and out-of-service time, measured consistently.
- Fault detection: whether alerts arrive early enough to act, and whether false alerts create avoidable inspections or removals.
- Repair workflow: diagnostic access, technician capacity, parts availability, and turnaround.
- Battery strategy: charging, swapping, repairability, tracking, and safe handling.
- Economics: cost per vehicle or operating period, labor, service trips, and avoided failures.
- Lifecycle: vehicle lifespan and servicing logistics, with company-specific environmental claims clearly attributed.
Use a defined baseline and comparison period, then assess whether changes in availability and repair turnaround coincide with the new workflow. Do not credit an alerting model for improvements that may instead reflect changes in demand, fleet size or composition, battery logistics, relocation, or service capacity.
