Its central grading step is to generate a reference answer first, then compare a candidate’s response against that answer for coverage and contradictions.
Why build a grader instead of calling GPT?
In its first-person account on DEV Community, Peakblick frames the challenge as deciding whether an answer “actually covered what the question was testing, or … just sounded confident.” The builder says early versions could confidently approve incorrect answers, prompting a change in the grading method.

The builder’s stated reasons for making its own model include greater control over consistency, cost, and keeping answers within its own model. Those are rationales and claims in a product-building account, not independently demonstrated advantages over an external model API. “No GPT” is a narrow distinction: the builder says it trained the model from scratch without GPT or external-model distillation. The account does not establish that the service uses no third-party software or infrastructure.

- Generate an interview question. Peakblick says one model produces questions suited to a selected role, seniority, and topics, rather than selecting from a fixed question bank.
- Create a reference answer. Before grading the candidate, the model generates an ideal response to the question.
- Compare the candidate’s response. The grader checks it against the reference for concepts covered, omissions, and contradictions.
- Explain the judgment and assign a score. The builder describes a 1–10 score assembled from visible judgments about the response, with feedback on missing or weakly covered concepts, trade-offs, edge cases, or inaccurate terminology.
Generating a reference answer gives the grader a specific target for the question, rather than asking it to judge confidence or fluency alone. It also creates a dependency: if the reference answer is incomplete or wrong, the comparison may inherit that flaw. The account does not report tests that measure how often this happens.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
What technical areas does the model cover?
The builder says it is teaching the model technical subject matter spanning programming languages, frameworks, SQL and databases, system design, version control, and fundamentals. The account does not name the training datasets, explain their licensing, quantify coverage by topic, or report how well the model handles different roles and seniority levels.
More topics and seniority levels, deeper subject knowledge, and interviews involving real code are described as future work, not as features established in the account.

What the account does—and does not—show
The DEV article explains the design the builder says it implemented; it is not a product audit or an independent evaluation. It supplies no source code or model weights, test-set results, grader accuracy, comparison with human ratings, or calibration measurements. The author profile says the builder trains 1B models from scratch using PyTorch, but that profile statement is not a benchmark of the interview grader.
As a result, the visible point-level feedback may make the reasoning easier to inspect, but it does not by itself establish that the score is correct or consistent. A meaningful evaluation would need to check whether repeated runs produce similar judgments, whether expert interviewers agree with the grades, and how performance varies across topics, roles, and seniority levels.

- Sleek 7-in-1 USB-C Hub: Features an HDMI port, two USB-A 3.0 ports, and a USB-C data port, each providing 5Gbps transfer speeds. It also includes a USB-C PD input port for charging up to 100W and dual SD and TF card slots, all in a compact design.
- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.
- Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- Accuracy: No independent results show how often the grader identifies correct, incomplete, or incorrect answers.
- Consistency: No repeated-run or model-update comparisons are reported.
- Privacy: Keeping answers within the builder’s own model is a stated rationale; the account does not document data handling, retention, or infrastructure.
- Cost and speed: The builder cites cost as a reason for its approach, but gives no per-session costs, latency figures, or measured comparison with an external API.
What to ask before relying on an AI interview grade
A candidate or hiring team should treat a score as practice feedback, not as a validated measure of interview ability, unless the service provides evidence supporting that use. Useful evaluation questions include:
