The Tool Desk

The available product information does not support a fair list of ten comparable humanizers, so this guide focuses on those three and explains how to assess detector claims.
What an AI humanizer can—and cannot—do
An AI humanizer rewrites text. Depending on the service, the aim may be to make prose clearer, adjust its tone or rephrase sentences. That can be useful editing, but it does not establish who wrote the original passage or guarantee how a different service will classify the revision.

Keep a product’s own score separate from an independent detector result. Undetectable AI’s terms say its gauge is a server-side measurement by the service, not an output from Turnitin, GPTZero, Originality.ai, Copyleaks or ZeroGPT. Treat that figure as a vendor-provided signal, not proof of how another detector will respond. Undetected.ai Terms of Service
Three humanizing or editing tools to compare
| Tool | Documented purpose | What the available product information says | Important distinction |
|---|---|---|---|
| Grammarly Humanizer | Clarity, coherence, voice and readability editing. | Grammarly describes a humanizer workflow and explains how to use it in its product page and user guide. | Grammarly explicitly says the feature is not intended to bypass AI detectors. It is best assessed as an editing aid, not an evasion tool. |
| QuillBot AI Humanizer | Rephrasing and tone adjustment. | QuillBot describes basic humanizing and a Premium advanced option, including deeper rewrites and long-form use among paid features. It suggests uses such as making a writer’s own technical text less technical or an email more conversational. QuillBot AI Humanizer | QuillBot advises users to follow their institution or organization’s rules. Its help page addresses the question “Will Turnitin detect QuillBot?” but that outcome depends on the text and detector, not a blanket guarantee. QuillBot Help Center |
| Undetectable AI | A combined detector-and-humanizer workflow. | The service offers a gauge alongside its humanizer. Its terms clarify that this gauge is the company’s own measurement, not a result from a named external detector. Terms of Service | A score from the service cannot be treated as a Turnitin, GPTZero or other external detector score. The homepage displayed “24M+” as a vendor-reported user claim in 2026; it is not independently verified adoption evidence. Undetectable AI homepage |

Check each provider’s current plan details and terms before choosing; do not infer a feature or privacy guarantee from a humanizer score or marketing description.

How to choose one for legitimate editing
Start with the editing problem rather than a detector score. If a draft is hard to follow, prioritize clarity and coherence. If it sounds unlike you, look for controls that let you guide tone and then review every change yourself. If you need to rephrase your own writing or handle longer text, check whether the service’s current plan supports that workflow.
- Purpose: Decide whether you need readability editing, paraphrasing or a detector report. These are different jobs.
- Rewrite depth and voice: Compare how substantially the tool changes a passage and whether its results still express your meaning and sound appropriate for your audience.
- Workflow and languages: Confirm the languages, document surfaces and text lengths you actually need; the cited product descriptions do not establish every current limit.
- Cost and privacy: Verify present plan limits, retention and data-handling terms directly with the provider. These details can change.
- Policy fit: Follow the rules of your school, employer, publisher or platform. QuillBot’s guidance says not to present AI-generated content as your own.
Use a rewrite as an editable draft, not as evidence of authorship. Compare it with your source, restore any lost nuance, and keep a record of your process if you may need to explain how the work was produced.
Are AI humanizers detectable?
There is no dependable yes-or-no answer for every humanizer and detector combination. Results can depend on the tool, the passage, the detector version and the context in which the text is reviewed. A low score from one service does not establish that another detector will agree.
Turnitin says its English detector includes detection of likely AI text modified by an AI paraphraser or bypasser. A rewrite therefore does not establish that a passage is outside the detector’s scope. Turnitin also warns that its model can misidentify human-written, AI-generated and AI-paraphrased text, and says the report should not be the sole basis for adverse action. Independent research also cautions against treating a detector result as universal. A 2026 study evaluated nine detection products using text from ChatGPT, DeepSeek, Gemini and Grok alongside human-written controls; its abstract reports variation and effects from paraphrasing and other modifications. Those findings should not be collapsed into a single score or assumed to describe a current version of every tool. Journal of Artificial Intelligence and Technology, 2026 study
Will Turnitin detect QuillBot?
QuillBot’s own help page poses that question, but the available evidence does not support a universal prediction for every QuillBot rewrite. Turnitin says its English detector covers likely AI text altered with an AI paraphraser or bypasser; that describes detector scope, not a guarantee that any particular passage will be flagged. Turnitin also says its model may misidentify text and that a report needs human scrutiny. In particular, it notes a higher incidence of false positives in the 0–19% range; a small score should not be treated as conclusive evidence. Turnitin: Using the AI Writing Report

Detection systems estimate whether text resembles patterns associated with AI writing; their scores do not prove who authored a passage. Turnitin’s warning applies to its own report, and OpenAI’s past classifier results should not be generalized to every current detector.
In 2023, OpenAI reported that its own classifier identified 26% of AI-written text as “likely AI-written” on an English challenge set and incorrectly labeled 9% of human-written text as AI-written. OpenAI said the classifier should not be used as a primary decision-making tool. Those figures describe that classifier and test set, not present-day accuracy across products. OpenAI: New AI classifier for indicating AI-written text
OpenAI’s educator guidance also notes that its detector labeled some human-written material, including Shakespeare and the Declaration of Independence, as AI-generated. This is a warning about the limitations of OpenAI’s detector, not evidence that all detectors behave identically. OpenAI Help Center: Educators responding to AI-generated work
When a detector is used in a school or workplace, its result should be weighed alongside relevant context and human review, not treated as a standalone authorship verdict. GPTZero’s 2026 GPTZero 4o announcement describes benchmark work involving a dataset reported by Graphite that included 6,000 AI articles and 15,000 pre-ChatGPT human articles. That is benchmark-construction information reported by the companies, not a guarantee about an individual document. GPTZero: Introducing GPTZero 4o
Why this is not a ten-tool ranking
The available product evidence supports three humanizing or editing services with distinct purposes, not ten equally documented, directly comparable humanizers. Turnitin and GPTZero are useful context because they are detectors, not humanizer alternatives. Adding unrelated products to reach ten would blur that distinction, and a ranking based on detector evasion would require up-to-date, controlled independent testing against the same detector versions. No such head-to-head results are established here.
