AI-related scraping concerns are contributing to at least one platform’s decision to end RSS support, but the evidence does not show that AI is killing RSS feeds across the web. Reddit says it will stop supporting RSS on November 13, 2026, citing large-scale scraping and automated abuse. A separate report says Microsoft removed feeds for Knowledge Base updates, but the reason is unknown.
What RSS feed removal means for readers
RSS is a way to subscribe to website updates through a feed reader instead of checking each site manually. Microsoft describes using RSS to send article or summary updates to Outlook’s RSS folder in its RSS subscription guide.

If a site removes a feed, the automatic updates from that feed may stop even while the site’s pages remain available. That is a loss of one way to follow updates, not the end of RSS as a technology.

In a September 30, 2026 moderator announcement, Reddit said it will stop supporting RSS feeds on November 13, 2026. The company explained: “Because RSS is now a common surface for large-scale scraping and automated abuse, we’ll stop supporting RSS feeds on November 13, 2026 while preserving moderation workflows that depend on it through supported alternatives.” The statement directly connects Reddit’s decision to scraping and abuse; it does not quantify how much scraping uses RSS or establish a general decline in feeds elsewhere. Reddit’s announcement says alternatives will preserve certain moderation workflows. It does not describe a general replacement for ordinary readers who follow public communities.

Microsoft Knowledge Base feeds: removal reported, reason unknown
On October 1, 2026, AskWoody author Susan Bradley reported that Microsoft had removed RSS feeds used to monitor new and changed Knowledge Base postings. Bradley wrote, “I’m not sure whether this is due to the concern of AI scraping content.” That is her uncertainty, not a confirmed explanation from Microsoft. The available report establishes neither an AI motive nor a replacement for those feeds. AskWoody’s report is the source for the reported removal.
How the two cases differ
| Case | Status and timing | Scraping rationale | Replacement described |
|---|---|---|---|
| Formally announced; RSS support is scheduled to end November 13, 2026. | Reddit explicitly cites large-scale scraping and automated abuse. | Alternatives are described for moderation workflows, not as a general public-feed replacement. Reddit. | |
| Microsoft Knowledge Base feeds | Removal was reported by AskWoody on October 1, 2026; the report does not give an effective date. | The author says the reason is unknown and does not establish an AI-related cause. | No replacement is described in the report. AskWoody. |
Can a feed reader work around a missing feed?
An AskWoody commenter said they use Feedly to create feeds for sites that do not provide an RSS link. This is an individual reader’s report, not a guarantee that feed generation works on every site or that it can restore a feed a platform has discontinued. Check the reader’s current documentation and the site’s available options before relying on that workaround. The comment appears on AskWoody’s post.

What the evidence does—and does not—show
- Reddit has announced a specific future end date and explicitly ties its decision to scraping and automated abuse.
- Microsoft Knowledge Base feed removal is reported, but the reason has not been established by the cited account.
- These two cases do not prove a broad trend of RSS feeds disappearing because of AI.
- The cited sources provide no statistics on RSS readership, the share of scraping conducted through RSS, or the effect of feed removal on scraping.
