Choose Ahrefs Brand Radar if you want broad discovery across search-backed prompts plus the option to track questions you select. Choose Profound Answer Engine Insights if you want prompt-level reporting on visibility, rank, share of voice, citations, and sentiment. Those are different workflows, not evidence that one tool measures AI visibility more accurately. Your decision should turn on the prompts, engines, markets, reporting cadence, and wider platform features you actually need.

What each tool is designed to show

Ahrefs Brand Radar: discover where your brand appears

Ahrefs presents Brand Radar as an AI visibility discovery tool. Its AI Visibility Index uses search-backed prompts modeled on Ahrefs keyword data; custom prompt tracking is a separate option for monitoring questions you specify. Ahrefs says the index can help benchmark AI share of voice and find pages and domains cited in answers. Its help material also describes discovery context across SEO, YouTube, Reddit, and TikTok. Ahrefs’ Brand Radar help page describes these workflows.

Ahrefs describes its index as covering more than 405 million search-backed prompts and seven AI platforms, but that prompt total is a changing vendor-reported figure, not a stable database size or a measure of accuracy. A separate Ahrefs product-page capture displayed 447 million prompts on October 7, 2026. The discrepancy is a reason to treat totals as dynamic rather than compare them as if they were independently verified counts. See the Ahrefs Brand Radar product page for current product details.

According to Ahrefs, supported platforms are queried through their web versions without stored user data or prior context, with prompts entered in the location corresponding to their source keyword. Ahrefs also notes that monitoring can be constrained if an AI platform requires a login or does not offer a free public version. These are the vendor’s descriptions of its method; they are not an independent audit of the responses collected.

Profound Answer Engine Insights: analyze a selected prompt set

Profound’s Answer Engine Insights focuses on tracked prompts and the answers returned for them. Its prompt-tracking page describes daily monitoring and reports a Visibility Score, Visibility Rank, Share of Voice, and citation data for each prompt. Profound’s Answer Engine Insights page also describes sentiment, keyword themes, citation sources and authority, competitor rankings, prompt volumes, and monitoring across regions and languages.

Profound’s Help Center says the system sends prompts to answer engines and captures responses as data points. Its overview describes visibility and sentiment calculations and a FactCheck feature that compares claims with a brand’s source of truth. The metric interpretation guide says the current Answer Engine Insights Visibility Score uses non-branded prompts. That distinction matters when comparing scores: a branded prompt asks about a named company, while a non-branded prompt does not, and the two prompt mixes can produce different results.

Answer Engine Insights is one part of Profound’s wider platform, which also describes page-level visibility, AI crawler analytics, content effectiveness scoring, and AI marketing workflows. Confirm which modules are included in the plan you are considering rather than assuming every feature belongs to the prompt-tracking product.

How to compare the metrics without confusing them

A visibility score only makes sense alongside the prompts and response collection method behind it. A broad index built from search-backed prompts answers a different question from a deliberately selected list of tracked prompts. Even where both products use the phrase “share of voice,” their prompt sets and calculations may differ.

Decision point Ahrefs Brand Radar Profound Answer Engine Insights What to check
Monitoring approach AI Visibility Index plus separately described custom prompt tracking. Tracked-prompt analysis within Answer Engine Insights. Whether you need broad discovery, monitoring of specific questions, or both.
Prompt basis Search-backed prompts modeled from Ahrefs keyword data; custom prompts are also available. Prompt tracking and captured answer data points; Profound describes prompt volumes. How prompts are selected, whether they are branded, and whether you can inspect the exact set.
Reported outputs Mentions, citations, impressions, and AI share of voice are described in Ahrefs help material; reports and index features can evolve. Visibility Score, Visibility Rank, Share of Voice, citations, sentiment, and related prompt reporting. Metric definitions, denominator, prompt mix, and whether the reporting matches your internal question.
Beyond AI answers SEO and selected video and social discovery context are documented. The broader platform describes page visibility, crawler analytics, and content workflows. Which modules are included in the quoted plan and whether they replace tools you already use.
Markets and AI platforms Ahrefs describes location-matched prompts; access depends partly on platform availability. Profound describes multi-region and multi-language monitoring. Exact engine, country, language, and refresh schedule for your use case.
Price and capacity Public starting prices and plan details are listed, but can change and may vary by region. A directly comparable complete public price and quota schedule is not established in the product material cited here. How to choose based on your monitoring job

Pick the Ahrefs workflow when discovery is the priority

  • You want to explore brand visibility across a large search-backed prompt set rather than begin with only a hand-built prompt list.
  • You want AI answer discovery alongside the SEO and selected social or video context Ahrefs describes.
  • You need custom prompt tracking as an additional, separately packaged workflow and have checked which engines and locations are available to you.

Pick the Profound workflow when prompt-level reporting is the priority

  • You have a defined set of questions and want recurring reporting on mentions, rank, share of voice, citations, and sentiment for those prompts.
  • You need to assess prompts across specific regions or languages and can confirm the precise coverage in the plan.
  • You are evaluating a broader AI marketing platform and have a use for its additional page visibility, crawler, or content features.

Run a matched evaluation before committing

  1. Write down the decision you need to make. For example, whether a product is cited for a category question, whether it appears in a comparison answer, or which sources AI answers rely on. Avoid treating a general visibility score as a substitute for the specific question.
  2. Ask both vendors for the same coverage details. Confirm the AI platforms, countries, languages, prompt limits, refresh cadence, historical access, seats, and included modules. For Ahrefs, distinguish AI Visibility Index access from custom prompt tracking.
  3. Compare like with like. Use the same prompt wording, branded versus non-branded mix, target market, and observation period wherever each tool permits it. Record how each tool defines mentions, citations, rank, and share of voice.
  4. Check the underlying answers. Where possible, inspect examples and cited sources, not only aggregate scores. An answer engine’s response can vary, and an index or score summarizes the collection method its vendor uses.
  5. Get current commercial terms in writing. Normalize prompt capacity, engines, cadence, history, seats, add-ons, billing period, and regional taxes before comparing total cost.

What pricing and prompt totals do—and do not—tell you

Ahrefs’ Help Center, accessed October 7, 2026, lists USD pricing of $199 per month for single-platform AI Visibility Index access and $699 per month for access across all platforms. The same help material describes regional variation. Ahrefs’ product page, accessed October 7, 2026, advertises custom prompts starting at $50 per month and AI Visibility Index access starting at $199 per month. These are vendor-listed starting or plan prices, not guaranteed quotes; confirm the live plan, eligible subscription requirements, taxes, platform list, and billing period before budgeting.

The cited Profound pages do not provide a complete public price and quota schedule that can be matched to those Ahrefs figures. Request a quote specifying the same number of prompts, engines, markets, refreshes, users, and modules before making a cost comparison.

Similarly, Ahrefs’ changing prompt totals describe the scale of its vendor-reported index, not how often your brand will appear or whether one tool is more accurate. Profound’s reviewed pages do not establish a directly comparable total prompt database. Neither total settles whether the tracked questions represent your customers’ searches or how well either platform captures the answers relevant to your business.

What the available evidence cannot establish

The official product and help pages support a comparison of documented workflows and metrics, but they do not establish independent head-to-head accuracy, causal impact on a brand’s AI visibility, or a universal winner. Both products’ feature packaging, quotas, platform coverage, and pricing can change. Treat vendor descriptions as statements about their own products, then validate the coverage and metric definitions against the decisions your team needs to make.
