Recommended Free Tools
To set up an Agmundr Zombie Apocalypse server, select one exact pack release, use its matching Minecraft 1.20.1 Forge files and server pack, allocate at least 8GB of RAM (12GB or more is the project’s recommendation), and make every player install the identical release and loader. The most recent listed release is 1.7.5, but a separately documented server-pack ZIP is available for 1.6.8, so do not mix those versions.
Godlike.Host offers modded Minecraft server hosting with one-click modpacks, a built-in mod installer and up to three free backups a day.
This guide explains how to choose the right files, install a clean Agmundr 1.20.1 Forge server, handle first startup, prepare players, choose self-hosting or managed hosting, and recover from common version and memory problems.

What Agmundr Zombie Apocalypse is
Agmundr – Zombie Apocalypse is a large Minecraft modpack for Minecraft 1.20.1 running on Forge. The project describes an apocalypse-focused survival experience with more than 240 mods, custom classes and difficulty settings, special zombie types, Create-based technology questlines, realistic body damage, seasons, world-generation changes, decoration content, weapons, armor and an extensive quest system. The project description says its goal is to make players use survival skills while learning the game through quests.
CurseForge’s project listing shows release 1.7.5 as the latest listed file, uploaded July 11, 2026. The official files index lists nine releases, all for Minecraft 1.20.1 Forge. Because the pack changes frequently, the release number is not just a download preference: it determines the mod list, configuration, loader compatibility and often the world behavior.

How do I set up an Agmundr Zombie Apocalypse server?
Use this order. It prevents the most common installation error—combining a client from one release with server files from another.
- Choose one exact Agmundr release. Record the release number, Minecraft version and Forge version shown for that file.
- Check the release’s CurseForge files and notes. Look specifically for a matching server-pack artifact. Do not assume the newest client ZIP has a separate server download.
- Create a clean server directory. Do not install over another modpack, an old Agmundr world or an unrelated Forge server.
- Install the matching Forge server files. Use the installer and files associated with the selected 1.20.1 Forge release.
- Apply the same release’s manifest and overrides. Keep the mod list, configuration files and overrides together. Never copy only the mods folder from another release.
- Allocate memory. Set a server ceiling of at least 8GB. The project recommends 12GB or more, especially as the world, view distance and player activity grow.
- Start the server once. Allow it to create its initial folders and configuration, then stop it when the EULA prompt appears.
- Accept the EULA and adjust only understood settings. Follow the current release notes or your host’s documentation for the exact startup method and Java runtime. Those details are not fixed across every installation method.
- Start again and test locally. Confirm that the console reaches a ready state before inviting players.
- Install the identical pack release on every client. Each player must use Minecraft 1.20.1, the same Forge release family and the same Agmundr version.
- Back up before changes. Copy the world and configuration directories before updating the pack, changing major settings or replacing a server installation.
Release and Forge compatibility
Every participant needs a compatible combination of three things: Minecraft 1.20.1, the Forge release expected by the chosen Agmundr file, and the exact Agmundr modpack release. A player can have the right Minecraft version and still be rejected if the Forge build or modpack files differ.

Release 1.7.5 is the latest release listed by the project as of July 11, 2026. A third-party pack analysis identifies it as Forge 47.4.6 and counts 305 mod projects. Treat that Forge number and mod count as useful cross-checks, not as a substitute for the release’s own manifest and notes. The creator listing does not clearly identify a separate server file for 1.7.5 in the available documentation.
Why release 1.6.8 needs separate handling
An official file named Agmundr - Zombie Apocalypse-v1.6.8serverpack.zip is documented on CurseForge. It was uploaded March 18, 2026, supports Minecraft 1.20.1 Forge and is listed at 1.1GB. That file is evidence of a server pack for 1.6.8 only. It does not establish that the same ZIP works with 1.7.5.
If you select 1.7.5, verify the current files page and release notes for a 1.7.5 server artifact before creating the world. If no matching server package is identified, ask the hosting provider or pack maintainer for the correct server procedure rather than renaming or modifying a 1.6.8 archive.

Where is the Agmundr server pack?
The clearly documented server-pack location is the project’s CurseForge files area, where the 1.6.8 server ZIP is listed. Open the files for the exact release you intend to run and inspect the file name, Minecraft version, Forge information and upload date. A client profile, an ordinary instance folder and a server pack are not interchangeable.

What a valid server package should contain
A matching package normally supplies the server-side mod files plus the release’s manifest and configuration overrides. The important test is not the ZIP’s size or name alone; it is whether the package belongs to the same release and loader as your intended clients.
- Release number matches the clients.
- Minecraft version is 1.20.1.
- Forge family matches the release notes or manifest.
- Manifest and overrides come from that same release.
- No files from an older Agmundr installation are being silently retained.
Self-hosting requirements
Self-hosting gives you direct control over the files, world backups, configuration and network access. It also makes you responsible for hardware, operating-system updates, firewall rules, port forwarding, crash recovery and storage. The pack’s official memory guidance is the clearest sizing requirement: 8GB is the minimum server allocation, while 12GB or more is recommended and also described as ideal.
Hardware and storage checklist
- A computer or virtual server that can reserve at least 8GB of RAM for the Java process without starving the operating system.
- Fast, reliable storage with enough free space for the server files, generated chunks, backups and logs. The documented 1.6.8 server ZIP alone is 1.1GB before extraction and world growth.
- A stable network connection and a way to configure inbound access if people outside your home network will connect.
- Permission to install the Forge server and the Java runtime required by the selected release. The exact runtime requirement is not stated in the available project evidence, so use the current release notes or host documentation instead of guessing.
- A backup destination separate from the live world directory.
Clean installation procedure
1. Record the release before downloading
Write down the Agmundr version, Minecraft version and Forge version in a small text file beside your server directory. This prevents accidental upgrades when a launcher or host displays a newer pack.
2. Prepare an empty directory
Use a new directory dedicated to this server. Avoid copying an existing mods, config, defaultconfigs or world folder into it. Leftover files can make a server appear to start while producing missing-mod, registry or configuration errors later.

3. Install Forge for Minecraft 1.20.1
Use the Forge installer and server files designated for the selected Agmundr release. Do not choose a generic “latest Forge” build merely because it also supports 1.20.1; modpacks can depend on a specific release family.
4. Apply the pack files
Extract the matching server pack, if one is provided, into the clean directory. Preserve its folder structure and copy its manifest and overrides as supplied. Do not combine a 1.6.8 server archive with a 1.7.5 manifest, or a client-only folder with a server installation.
5. Perform the first launch
Start the server using the launch method supplied with the Forge installation or host panel. The first run should create configuration files and stop for the EULA requirement. Stop the process cleanly after that prompt; do not repeatedly force-close it while files are being generated.
6. Accept the EULA and make deliberate settings changes
After reviewing the Minecraft EULA, edit the generated EULA setting as required by the server software, then change only settings you understand. Keep a copy of the original configuration so you can identify which change caused a problem.

How much RAM does Agmundr need?
The project’s published guidance is 8GB minimum server allocation and 12GB or more recommended. It also labels 12GB or more as ideal. These are starting points, not a guaranteed player-capacity formula: actual use depends on loaded chunks, view distance, simulation distance, world generation, mod activity, backups and the number of players exploring at once.
| Allocation | How to interpret it | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| 8GB | Official minimum starting point | Leave additional memory for the operating system and other services; a machine with exactly 8GB total system RAM may be unsuitable. |
| 12GB+ | Official recommendation and ideal allocation | Still not a promise of a specific player count or view distance. |
| More than 12GB | May be appropriate as the world and workload grow | Adding RAM cannot compensate for an incorrect mod set, a mismatched release or inadequate CPU/storage performance. |
Set a practical ceiling rather than assigning every byte on the machine to Minecraft. Monitor memory pressure, garbage-collection pauses and operating-system swapping over several play sessions before changing the allocation. Because no independent benchmark or player-capacity study is available for this pack, avoid promising a particular number of simultaneous players.
Player installation checklist
Before someone joins, have that player install the same release you recorded for the server. A launcher profile that says “Agmundr” is not sufficient if it points to a different update.
- Minecraft 1.20.1 selected.
- Forge release matches the server’s expected family.
- Agmundr release number matches exactly.
- No extra mods, shader loaders or client-side additions that alter required dependencies.
- Enough client RAM and disk space for the pack and its generated data.
- Correct server address and port supplied by the operator.
When a connection fails, compare the client’s mod list and Forge version with the server before changing network settings. Most “incompatible mod list” errors are release mismatches rather than firewall problems.

A self-hosted server must be reachable from the players’ networks. The exact port and firewall procedure depends on the operating system, router and hosting environment, so use those platform’s current documentation. Open only the port required by your server, restrict administrative access, and avoid publishing console credentials or operator passwords.
Best Value
- Play and share with friends on console, mobile and Windows 10
- discover community creations in the new in-game store
- access new mini games and game modes through servers
Operational habits that prevent data loss
- Stop the server cleanly before copying a world backup.
- Keep dated backups of the world, configuration and server properties.
- Store at least one backup on a different disk or machine.
- Test restoring a backup before you need it.
- Back up before changing the pack release, Forge build, world-generation settings or major server configuration.
- Keep a text record of the exact release and any manual changes.
Agmundr server hosting: self-hosted or managed?
Managed hosting can remove much of the installation and networking work. A provider may offer a one-click Agmundr installer, automated backups, NVMe storage or a version selector. You still need to verify that the panel offers the release you want and that its memory allocation meets the pack’s published guidance.
| Provider listing | Documented offering | What to verify before ordering |
|---|---|---|
| CreeperHost | One-click Agmundr installation; listing shows a 5,000MB minimum, 2 × 4.5GHz CPU specification, 15GB SSD and a 1.7.5 option. | Five GB is below Agmundr’s 8GB minimum guidance. Confirm whether the displayed memory is a hard limit, whether an 8GB or 12GB tier exists, and whether 1.7.5 is still available in your region. |
| WinterNode | Agmundr listing with a 9GB preset, backups, unmetered NVMe storage and upgrade options. | Confirm that the preset applies to the current pack release, whether memory is dedicated, and what backup retention and regional availability mean. |
| BoxToPlay | One-click installation flow with a listed Agmundr 1.6.8 Minecraft 1.20.1 Forge option. | Confirm that the desired release is still offered and that the selected plan provides at least 8GB, preferably 12GB or more. |
| Kinetic Hosting | Dedicated Agmundr page with one-button modpack installation. | Verify technical specifications, available release numbers, locations, backup policy and commercial terms before purchase. |
These listings are service options, not evidence of a universal performance level. Prices, regions, memory limits, pack versions and promotional terms can change. Ask the provider which exact Agmundr release, Forge build and server package its installer deploys, and request a version change procedure before creating a permanent world.
Common setup failures and fixes
| Symptom | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Client is rejected for an incompatible mod list | Client and server use different Agmundr releases or one has extra/missing mods. | Reinstall the exact server release on the client and remove unapproved additions. |
| Forge reports a version mismatch | Different Forge builds within Minecraft 1.20.1. | Use the Forge release named by the selected pack manifest or release notes on both sides. |
| Server starts but crashes while loading registries | Mixed manifests, stale configuration or a client folder copied as a server. | Return to a clean directory and apply only the matching server package, manifest and overrides. |
| World disappears after an update | The new installation points to a different directory or the old world was not copied. | Stop the server, restore the backed-up world to the configured world directory, and verify the path before restarting. |
| Server becomes unresponsive during exploration | Memory pressure, chunk generation load or storage contention. | Check logs and system memory, reduce demanding settings cautiously, pre-generate only with a documented method, or move to the recommended 12GB-plus allocation. |
| Players cannot connect from outside the home network | Firewall, router forwarding, carrier-grade NAT or an incorrect address. | Verify the server is listening locally, check firewall and router rules, and ask the internet provider whether inbound connections are supported. |
| Managed host installs the wrong pack version | Panel’s one-click template is older or defaults to another release. | Capture the selected version before installation and ask support to confirm the exact manifest and Forge build. |
Updating Agmundr safely
Treat an update as a migration, not as a simple replacement of the mods folder. Read the target release notes, confirm that a matching server package exists, and make a complete backup first.
- Stop the current server cleanly.
- Copy the world, configuration, server properties and any custom scripts to a dated backup location.
- Install the target release in a separate directory whenever possible.
- Apply the target release’s Forge files, manifest and overrides together.
- Test the copied world on the new installation before allowing normal play.
- Have every player update to the same release and loader.
- Keep the previous installation untouched until the new world loads correctly and a restore has been tested.
Never assume that a newer pack can safely open a world created by an older release without a backup. World-generation and registry changes can make a downgrade difficult or impossible.
Choosing the right approach
Choose self-hosting when
- You can reserve 8GB or more for the server and manage the operating system.
- You want direct access to files, logs, backups and configuration.
- You can configure networking and provide your own recovery plan.
Choose managed hosting when
- You want a one-click Forge modpack installation and a control panel.
- You prefer the host to handle network exposure, storage and routine maintenance.
- The provider can supply the exact Agmundr release and at least the project’s recommended memory.
Regardless of the choice, release matching remains the first compatibility check. A convenient installer cannot make a 1.6.8 server pack compatible with a 1.7.5 client, and extra RAM cannot repair a mixed manifest or Forge installation.
