In Windows 11, Aero Shake is controlled by Title bar window shake. Go to Settings > System > Multitasking and turn the toggle on. Then shake an open app’s title bar: the other open windows should minimize while that window stays available.
Turn on Title bar window shake
- Open Settings.
- Select System > Multitasking.
- Turn on Title bar window shake. Microsoft documents this setting as the way to quickly minimize every open window except the one you are using. See Microsoft’s instructions for focusing on tasks.
- Grab the title bar of a normal application window and shake it. The other open windows should minimize; the selected window should remain available.
If the gesture still does not work
First check that you are shaking the window’s title bar, rather than another part of the window. Return to Settings > System > Multitasking, switch Title bar window shake off and back on, and test the gesture again. This is a basic diagnostic step; Microsoft’s cited guidance does not prescribe a separate repair for a toggle that is already on but unresponsive.

Use Snap to arrange windows instead
Snap is a separate Windows window-management feature. It can arrange windows on screen, but it does not turn on or replace Aero Shake. Microsoft documents Snap under Settings > System > Multitasking. Choose an option that matches what you need:
- Place a window at the side: drag it to a screen edge, or press Windows key + Left arrow or Windows key + Right arrow.
- Choose a layout: open the flyout from a window’s maximize button, or press Windows key + Z, then select a layout.
See Microsoft’s guide to Snap for its window-arranging options.
