Adobe Lightroom is free to download on iOS and Android, and Adobe says the free mobile version includes most editing tools. But features such as Masking, Lens Blur, and Generative Remove are premium upgrades, and a mobile-store subscription unlocks premium features on mobile only. Whether Lightroom is a “pro editor in your pocket” depends on which tools and devices you need—not on an independent performance test.
What you get for free in Lightroom mobile
Adobe says the free tier includes capture, photo organization, sharing, and most editing tools. That makes it useful for everyday edits without a subscription, although “most” does not mean every feature.

The free tier also includes 5 GB of cloud storage shared across Adobe apps, according to Adobe’s cloud-storage guidance updated June 5, 2026. That allowance is shared rather than reserved solely for Lightroom.

Adobe lists cloud storage, syncing across devices, healing, masking, geometry tools, batch editing, RAW editing, and Sensei-powered search among premium features. Its September 2026 subscription instructions specifically name Masking, Lens Blur, and Generative Remove as premium mobile upgrades. The exact feature set can change, so check Adobe’s current app and plan details before subscribing.
Adobe’s own description is a useful way to frame the free-versus-paid split: “You can use all capture, organization, and sharing features for free, plus most editing tools.” The quote is from Adobe’s Lightroom on mobile FAQ, last updated June 5, 2026.
Does a mobile subscription include Lightroom on desktop?
No—not if you buy the subscription through the iOS App Store or Google Play. Adobe says those purchases enable premium features on mobile only. That is different from Adobe’s broader Lightroom plan, which lists Lightroom for mobile, desktop, and web, as well as Lightroom Classic.
Choose based on where you edit: a mobile-store subscription is for premium phone or tablet features; a broader plan is the option to consider if you want Adobe’s cross-device workflow. Check the plan description for its storage and syncing terms rather than assuming all subscriptions include the same capabilities.

Prices, promotions, renewal terms, and plan availability vary by country and date. Check Adobe’s Lightroom plans page for the offer in your region before buying. Also distinguish an annual commitment billed monthly from a month-to-month subscription.

Adobe documents importing RAW photos directly to a phone, but the transfer method depends on the device. On Android, Adobe describes using a USB On-The-Go cable; on iOS, it describes a Lightning-to-SD card adapter. The adapter or reader must match both the phone or tablet’s connector and the camera card. Importing camera RAW files is separate from editing ordinary photos taken on the phone.

How to choose between free and paid Lightroom
- Stay free if capture, organization, sharing, and the included editing tools meet your needs, and 5 GB shared across Adobe apps is enough for your use.
- Consider mobile Premium if you need paid tools such as Masking, Lens Blur, or Generative Remove on a phone or tablet and do not need the subscription to include desktop Lightroom.
- Consider a broader Lightroom plan if you want Lightroom across mobile, desktop, and web, or want Lightroom Classic as listed in Adobe’s US plan.
