For most Firefox users who want flexible blocking, uBlock Origin is the stronger fit. Choose AdGuard if you prefer its visual element-blocking assistant, an easy per-site protection switch, or want to explore a separate AdGuard app for protection beyond the browser. For Chrome and other Chromium browsers, check current installation availability before choosing: browser-extension rules and store listings are changing, and the two products do not have a verified, independent head-to-head test that establishes a universal winner.
What is the difference between AdGuard and uBlock Origin?
Both are browser extensions designed to block ads and other unwanted web content, but they emphasize different controls. uBlock Origin (uBO) offers a simple default setup as well as advanced, per-site rules. AdGuard Browser Extension offers a visual assistant for selecting page elements and a straightforward switch to turn protection off for a specific site.

These extensions protect browsing in the browser where they are installed. AdGuard’s documentation points users to its separate app for whole-device protection; the browser extension alone should not be treated as covering every app on a device. See AdGuard’s explanation of its browser extension.

#1 Best Overall
- DUAL-BAND WIFI 6 ROUTER: Wi-Fi 6(802.11ax) technology achieves faster speeds, greater capacity and reduced network congestion compared to the previous gen. All WiFi routers require a separate modem. Dual-Band WiFi routers do not support the 6 GHz band.
- AX1800: Enjoy smoother and more stable streaming, gaming, downloading with 1.8 Gbps total bandwidth (up to 1200 Mbps on 5 GHz and up to 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz). Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- CONNECT MORE DEVICES: Wi-Fi 6 technology communicates more data to more devices simultaneously using revolutionary OFDMA technology
- EXTENSIVE COVERAGE: Achieve the strong, reliable WiFi coverage with Archer AX1800 as it focuses signal strength to your devices far away using Beamforming technology, 4 high-gain antennas and an advanced front-end module (FEM) chipset
- OUR CYBERSECURITY COMMITMENT: TP-Link is a signatory of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) Secure-by-Design pledge. This device is designed, built, and maintained, with advanced security as a core requirement.
Which works best with your browser?
Firefox
uBlock Origin’s project says it works best on Firefox, making it a strong choice for Firefox users who want broad configuration options. Mozilla supports both Manifest V2 and Manifest V3 extensions in Firefox and continues to support both the blockingWebRequest and declarativeNetRequest APIs. Mozilla explains that Google’s replacement of blockingWebRequest with declarativeNetRequest limits how extensions can filter content. That browser-level difference helps explain why extension capabilities may vary; it does not establish a measured performance advantage for either blocker. Read Mozilla’s explanation of its Manifest V3 approach.
Chrome and other Chromium browsers
Check the extension store or project’s current installation instructions for your specific browser before deciding. As of October 3, 2026, uBlock Origin’s repository said it had been removed from the Chrome Web Store on August 31, 2026; it listed Firefox, Edge, and Opera distribution channels. The project also notes that manual Chromium builds may require manual installation and usually do not update automatically. Store availability and browser policies can change, so verify the option you intend to use.

- Dual-band Wi-Fi with 5 GHz speeds up to 867 Mbps and 2.4 GHz speeds up to 300 Mbps, delivering 1200 Mbps of total bandwidth¹. Dual-band routers do not support 6 GHz. Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- Covers up to 1,000 sq. ft. with four external antennas for stable wireless connections and optimal coverage.
- Supports IGMP Proxy/Snooping, Bridge and Tag VLAN to optimize IPTV streaming
- Access Point Mode - Supports AP Mode to transform your wired connection into wireless network, an ideal wireless router for home
- Advanced Security with WPA3 - The latest Wi-Fi security protocol, WPA3, brings new capabilities to improve cybersecurity in personal networks
AdGuard’s extension project reports support for Manifest V2 and V3. It lists project-published minimum versions of Chromium-based MV3 browsers at version 121, Firefox at version 78, and Firefox Mobile at version 113. Those minimums do not guarantee identical feature availability across browsers or builds. Check the project’s current compatibility information and, for Chrome, its Chrome Web Store listing.
Which should you choose?
- Choose uBlock Origin on Firefox if you want a capable default setup with the option to build more advanced per-site controls and custom filters.
- Choose AdGuard Browser Extension if visual element selection or a simple site-level protection switch fits your workflow better.
- Consider AdGuard’s separate app if your goal is protection beyond web browsing. That is a different product and scope from the browser extension.
- On Chrome or another Chromium browser, check availability first. Do not assume that an extension listed for one browser can be installed or offers the same features in another.
uBlock Origin’s project advises against running it alongside another content blocker because the other extension can interfere with privacy or anti-blocker features. Unless you have a specific reason and understand the possible conflict, use one content blocker at a time.

- Commercial-grade Security Anywhere – Protect your home network with AiProtection Classic, powered by Trend Micro. And when away from home, ASUS Instant Guard gives you a one-click secure VPN.
Can you compare their performance or privacy claims?
No independent, comparable head-to-head results establish which extension blocks more ads, uses less memory, or provides stronger privacy. AdGuard’s Chrome Web Store listing includes vendor-authored performance and blocking claims; those should not be treated as independent measurements or an apples-to-apples comparison.
AdGuard’s project says it does not collect user information and earns income from selling premium software. That is AdGuard’s own statement, not an independent privacy audit. Evaluate it as a vendor claim rather than verified comparative evidence.
