How long is the Ace Combat 8 campaign?
There is no verified completion-time figure from the official material currently available. Bandai Namco describes a substantial, story-led campaign with high-stakes missions, difficult choices and relationships within your squad, while the PlayStation overview confirms that it is a single-player experience. Those descriptions establish the campaign’s format, not a reliable hour count.
That means any precise number circulating online should be treated as an individual player’s result or an estimate until a reputable source documents a completed run. Your total time will also vary with difficulty, mission replays, optional objectives, aircraft experimentation and time spent learning unfamiliar encounters. A first playthrough that includes retries is not directly comparable with a later speedier run.

If you are deciding whether the game offers enough solo content, the safer conclusion is that the campaign is a full narrative mode rather than a short tutorial attached to multiplayer. The publisher’s description includes air-to-air combat, ground attacks, anti-ship operations and encounters with giant weapons, with squadron composition and wingman commands forming part of the campaign structure.

Strangereal in July 2029
The PlayStation Blog places the story in July 2029 in the series’ fictional Strangereal setting. The Federation of Central Usea is invaded by the neighboring Republic of Sotoa, and the player joins an effort to recapture the capital, Theve.

The player is rescued by the aging aircraft carrier Endurance and becomes part of the operation to retake the capital. The official synopsis frames the conflict around escalating military pressure rather than a detached collection of standalone sorties.

Aircraft and squadron choices
More than 30 aircraft are identified in the official overview. They are grouped as fighters, attack aircraft, multi-role aircraft and electronic-warfare aircraft. The campaign lets players choose a squadron composition and issue wingman commands, so aircraft selection is tied to the kind of mission support you want rather than only to top speed.
The same overview mentions a fictional Land Battleship approximately 450 meters long. That measurement describes the scale of a story-world encounter; it is not a performance specification or a promise that every mission uses a set-piece of that size.

Does Ace Combat 8 have multiplayer?
Yes. Multiplayer is provided through a separate mode called ACE COMBAT ONLINE, not as an extension of the campaign save. The official FAQ says online progression and save data are maintained separately from Campaign Mode, so progress made online does not replace or merge with your solo campaign progression.
Co-Op Assault
Co-Op Assault places two teams of four against one another in a player-versus-enemy scoring contest. Both teams fight computer-controlled threats, and the team with the higher score wins. The format therefore combines co-operative combat inside each team with direct competition between the teams.

Co-Op Warfare is also named by the publisher’s FAQ. The available official description does not spell out every rule, map or objective, so details such as team size and scoring should be checked against the current in-game explanation or later patch notes.
Emergency missions and PvP events
The European launch announcement adds time-limited emergency missions and competitive player-versus-player events to the online offering. Because these activities are described as time-limited or event-based, their schedules and available rewards can change after launch.
The 100-player Air Base
ACE COMBAT ONLINE uses an Air Base hub that can accommodate up to 100 players. This is a shared online space and should not be confused with the number of players taking part in a single combat mission; the FAQ’s 100-player figure applies to the hub.

How does cross-play work?
Publisher launch material says cross-platform play brings players together across the supported console and PC platforms. In practical terms, a PS5 player, an Xbox Series X|S player and a Steam player can be placed in the same online ecosystem when cross-play is enabled and the relevant service requirements are met.
The sources do not specify every cross-play control, account-linking step or whether particular event queues can be restricted by platform. Look for the current cross-play setting and matchmaking notes in the game’s online menus, especially after a major update.
What platforms is Ace Combat 8 on?
The officially listed platforms are PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC through Steam. Bandai Namco’s October 9 release update confirms availability after the October 2 launch. Does Ace Combat 8 support a flight stick or HOTAS?

A troubleshooting post in the Ace Combat community reproduces a statement attributed to the ACE COMBAT Team: “At this time, some of the configuration options available for certain devices in ACE COMBAT 7 are not available in ACE COMBAT 8.” The reproduced statement continues: “The team is carefully reviewing the situation and working on improvements to make the experience more comfortable for flight stick users.” The original official post was not independently located in the material reviewed here, so this is reported guidance rather than a published compatibility matrix.
What to check before buying hardware
- Confirm that the device is supported on your chosen platform, not merely recognized by a computer in general.
- Check the game’s current patch notes and support notices for changes to device detection or button assignment.
- Keep a standard controller available while testing; missing configuration options can make a stick-only setup impractical.
- Verify return terms before purchasing a device solely for this game, because model-specific support is not established.
If your stick is detected but controls are wrong
- Connect the device before launching the game and confirm that the operating system or console recognizes it.
- Open the game’s controller or input settings and check which axes and buttons are assigned.
- Test pitch, roll, yaw and throttle one at a time rather than changing several assignments simultaneously.
- Save a profile, restart the game and test it in a low-stakes mode before entering an online match.
- If an expected ACE COMBAT 7 option is absent, record the device model, platform and game version when reporting the issue; that information is more useful than describing the problem only as “HOTAS not working.”

Bandai Namco Entertainment America announced on October 9, 2026, that the game had reached one million units worldwide. The company described this as the fastest pace to that milestone in the franchise. That is a publisher-reported sales claim, not an independent review score or a guarantee about server population in every region.

The launch announcement also reiterates the story-driven campaign, online multiplayer and cross-play. For a buyer, the practical implication is that the core modes are available at launch, while event-based online activities and device support may continue to change through updates.
Which version should you choose?
Choose by the platform you already use
There is no source-backed performance table that makes one version an objective winner. If your friends are spread across consoles and PC, cross-play reduces the importance of matching their hardware. If you already own a PS5 or Xbox Series X|S, the console edition is the straightforward route; Steam is the natural choice for someone who wants PC input and graphics configuration.
Choose Standard unless the extras matter
The Deluxe edition is mainly about early access, a pass voucher and cosmetics, while the Joker Flight Pack adds physical collector items. After launch, early access cannot provide a time advantage, so the higher tiers make sense only if their remaining digital or physical extras appeal to you.

Because device-specific support is unresolved, buy the game for its confirmed controller experience and treat a flight stick as an experiment until the developer publishes clearer compatibility information.
