If a named enemy ace is not appearing in ACE COMBAT 8: WINGS OF THEVE, check that you are playing Campaign Mode, set difficulty to Veteran or higher, and meet that ace’s specific mission condition. A third-party guide says the takedown is recorded only after you complete the mission. The triggers are individual, so verify the current trigger for your mission rather than relying on a universal rule.

Check the condition for that exact mission
The guide describes a separate condition for each ace. There is no verified universal trigger here: do not assume, for example, that destroying every enemy will always make an ace appear. Consult a current mission-specific trigger reference and confirm that its instructions match your mission and difficulty before starting another attempt.

Follow the trigger’s event and timing
A condition may depend on a particular mission event or deadline. The sequence for each ace is not established here, so follow the specific trigger reference rather than improvising the order or timing.

Finish the mission after the ace is down
The guide says an ace takedown counts only once the mission is completed. After shooting the ace down, complete the mission, then check the game’s record to confirm the result.

Retry with the full condition in mind
If the ace still does not appear, replay the mission while tracking its exact condition from the start. Checkpoint behavior and whether restarting preserves progress are not verified, so do not assume a checkpoint restart will satisfy or preserve the trigger.

What this guide does—and does not—establish
Bandai Namco describes ACE COMBAT 8: WINGS OF THEVE as a single-player and multiplayer flight-shooting game and lists PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam. Its September 29, 2026 announcement says worldwide early access is available on those platforms. Neither source specifies the named enemy aces’ spawn rules. The official character roster lists Joker Flight members Jan Cope, Ellington Baxter, Tasha Severskaya, and William Coster; those characters should not be confused with the separate group of named enemy aces covered by spawn guides.

The individual mission triggers and any patch changes to them are not confirmed here. If the steps above do not resolve the issue, check a current mission-specific reference and current official patch notes before attributing the behavior to a bug or update.
