AANT’s Building & Contents Plus is the top tier in its combined home-insurance quote journey. Its advertised highlights include a building safety net of an extra 25% above the building sum insured, up to two years of temporary accommodation after a covered event, and enhanced contents benefits. Those are product-page summaries, not a substitute for the policy contract: check the applicable Product Disclosure Statement (PDS), your Certificate of Insurance and your personal quote for binding limits, exclusions, excesses and price.
What AANT Building & Contents Plus is
AANT advertises Plus as its highest level of combined building and contents cover. AANT distributes the policy; Insurance Australia Limited issues it under the CGU brand. AANT says its information is general and does not account for an individual customer’s objectives, financial situation or needs. The product is for Australian customers, and the policy documents and personal quote determine the cover that applies to a particular home.

AANT’s Home Building and Contents Insurance page describes the main features of Plus. Its public summary is useful for identifying what to check, but it is not a complete account of terms, conditions, sub-limits or exclusions.
What Plus advertises for buildings
Extra safety net above the sum insured
AANT describes a building safety net of an extra 25% on top of the building sum insured if the home needs rebuilding or repair. This is a headline benefit; the PDS and Certificate of Insurance govern how it applies. AANT also says its building calculator is guidance and that customers should insure for the full replacement value. If a home or its contents are overinsured, AANT says a claim is paid only for the actual repair, replacement or rebuild cost.

Temporary accommodation
AANT advertises up to two years of temporary accommodation when a covered event makes the home unliveable, compared with 12 months for its Standard combined cover. “Up to” does not establish a guaranteed payment period or amount: eligibility, any dollar limit and payment conditions depend on the policy wording and schedule.
Natural events and liability
AANT lists flood, rainwater run-off, storm, storm surge and tsunami among the events covered for loss or damage, while specifically excluding actions of the sea such as tides and waves. These distinctions matter: the summary is not a blanket assurance of coastal or flood protection. AANT also advertises legal liability cover up to $20 million in some situations; policy conditions and exclusions apply.
Repairs and repairer choice
AANT says customers may choose their own repairer and advertises a lifetime workmanship guarantee for authorised home repairs. If a customer uses a non-partner repairer, AANT says CGU may not guarantee the work or manage timing and quality issues, and will pay only the fair and reasonable repair cost. Check the applicable wording and claim arrangements before choosing a repairer.

What changes for contents in Plus
AANT says Contents Plus automatically includes accidental damage and motor burnout. It also advertises higher limits on some inclusions, such as food spoilage and landscaping, and up to two years of temporary accommodation instead of 12 months for Contents Standard. The table reflects AANT’s public comparison; it does not replace the limits and conditions in the policy documents.

Food-spoilage limits, the no-excess statement and how contents benefits work within a combined policy should be checked against the PDS and Certificate of Insurance. The food limits are AANT-advertised amounts, not an independent assessment of a claim outcome.
Optional cover and important limits to check
Accidental damage
AANT’s example is a child accidentally knocking over a television and breaking its screen. Its contents page says this cover is optional for Contents Standard and included with Contents Plus. AANT lists fishing equipment, sporting equipment, musical instruments and firearms while in use among exclusions. Check the policy definition and exclusions for the event and item involved.

Motor burnout
AANT describes cover for qualifying electric motors in fixtures and appliances, including parts and labour. Its summary refers to motors up to 15 years old, provided they are not covered by a warranty or used for business. Contents Plus includes this benefit automatically according to AANT; verify the qualifying motor, conditions and exclusions in the policy wording.
Valuables
AANT says works of art, collections, jewellery and watches share a $2,500 total limit under general contents unless higher valuable-contents cover is selected. It also says valuable contents are not covered while in storage. Confirm whether an item needs to be specified and what limit applies to it.
Portable contents and items in storage
Portable contents is an optional extension for certain items away from home. AANT advertises a $10,000 limit per item unless the item is separately listed for more, with other limits outside Australia or New Zealand. Its summary excludes scratches or dents, items being cleaned or repaired, and some equipment while in use; bicycles are excluded while used in a competitive race or time trial.

AANT says general contents may be covered in storage if CGU is told before the move and its acceptance criteria are met. That does not extend to valuable contents, which AANT says are not covered in storage. Ask for confirmation before moving insured items.
Options depend on the policy configuration
AANT’s combined-policy page lists accidental damage, valuable contents, motor burnout and portable contents as optional benefits, while its contents page says accidental damage and motor burnout are automatically included in Contents Plus. The pages describe benefits across tiers and configurations; use the quote, PDS and Certificate of Insurance to confirm what is included in the particular Plus policy being offered.

AANT does not publish a price that can establish what a particular household will pay; the premium requires an individual quote. AANT says payments can be made fortnightly, monthly or quarterly at no extra cost. Compare quotes only when the address, occupancy, sums insured, excesses and selected options are aligned.

- Compare building and contents sums insured, and whether the building cover includes a safety net.
- Check the temporary-accommodation duration, dollar cap and eligibility conditions.
- Compare standard and event-specific excesses, including any excess selected by the customer.
- Read how each policy defines flood, rainwater run-off, storm surge and actions of the sea.
- Check whether accidental damage, motor burnout, valuables and portable contents are included or optional, and note each sub-limit.
- Compare claims handling, repairer choice and any workmanship guarantee.
- Compare the quoted premium for the same home, occupancy, sums insured, excess and options.
Without aligned quotes and policy documents, the available information does not establish that AANT is cheaper or better value than another insurer.
What to verify before buying or renewing
- Open the documents for your policy period. AANT’s home insurance document directory lists a Home PDS, Home Premium, Excess & Discounts Guide, Home Target Market Determination and building and contents Key Facts Sheets. AANT says customers seeking PDS, TMD or KFS documents for policies issued before 16 June 2025 should contact CGU directly.
- Match the paperwork to your quote. Check the issue date and policy version, then read the Certificate of Insurance for your address, sums insured, selected options, excesses and any policy-specific terms.
- Confirm replacement values and limits. Review the building and contents sums insured, the safety-net application, temporary accommodation conditions, valuables and portable-item limits, and any event-specific excess.
- Ask about an unresolved term before relying on it. AANT’s public summaries do not set out every exclusion or claim condition. If a particular event, item or limit affects your decision, ask CGU or AANT to identify the applicable policy clause and confirm the answer in writing.
How to make a Home and Contents claim
AANT directs Home and Contents claims to CGU at 13 24 80, with claims lodgement available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Existing-claim enquiries are listed as 8:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m. local time. AANT recommends having the policy number, policyholder contact details, other-party details and incident documents ready. Photos and retaining damaged items can help with assessment.
For urgent repairs after a covered event, AANT says CGU is available 24/7 to help. The AANT claims page provides its claims guidance. Follow instructions from the claims team before authorising work or disposing of damaged property.
