AADSTS700003 means the device identity used during sign-in is missing from your organization’s Microsoft Entra tenant. Ask the tenant administrator to investigate the deletion, then recover the device using the procedure for its actual registration state: registered, joined, or hybrid joined. These procedures are different and are not interchangeable.
What error 700003 means
Microsoft Entra ID can show “Your organization has deleted this device” or “Device object was not found in the tenant ‘<TenantName>’ directory” when an application sign-in refers to a device object that is no longer present in the home tenant. Device registration or joining creates an identity used in scenarios such as device-based Conditional Access and mobile device management. Microsoft documents the error and its recovery procedures.

On Windows 10 and Windows 11, deleting or disabling the device object in Entra without initiating the change from the device can also affect the Primary refresh token (PRT), which supports single sign-on. Microsoft lists possible causes including a user disabling the device through My Apps, an administrator or user deleting or disabling it, and, for hybrid-joined devices, a change to synchronization scope or disabling the on-premises computer account. Microsoft’s device management FAQ explains the relationship between device state and sign-in.
What to check before changing the device
- Contact the administrator for the home tenant. Ask them to check when and why the device object was deleted. Microsoft says the Entra audit log records a “Delete device” activity type.
- Confirm the device’s registration state. Determine whether it is Microsoft Entra registered, Microsoft Entra joined, or Microsoft Entra hybrid joined. If you are unsure, ask the administrator to verify it before running commands or disconnecting an account.
- Use only the matching recovery procedure below. The registered-device workflow differs from the two Windows join-state commands; Microsoft does not recommend one universal command for all three states.
Fix the error using the device’s registration state
Microsoft Entra registered Windows 10 or Windows 11 device
- Open Settings > Accounts > Access work or school.
- Select the work or school account and choose Disconnect.
- Register the device with Microsoft Entra ID again.
Microsoft Entra registered iOS or Android device
- In Microsoft Authenticator, open Settings > Device Registration.
- Choose Unregister device.
- Register the device again.
Microsoft Entra registered macOS device
Use Microsoft Intune Company Portal to unenroll the device, then remove its registration before registering it again.

Microsoft Entra hybrid-joined Windows device
- Open PowerShell as an administrator on the affected Windows device.
- Run
dsregcmd /leave. - Restart the computer, then sign in with your domain credentials.
These platform- and state-specific steps are documented in Microsoft’s AADSTS700003 troubleshooting guidance. If you cannot verify the state or complete the required sign-in, ask your organization’s administrator or support team to guide the recovery.

A Microsoft Learn Q&A case describes one web-account Remote Desktop scenario in which a stale registration on the initiating client was involved while the target virtual machine was healthy. That is a single reported case, not a general diagnosis. If the error follows your account across devices, give the administrator the exact error, the application, and the device you used to start the sign-in so they can investigate the relevant device identity and audit events.
