Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteThe A17 Pro is the newer chip, found in iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. In Geekbench 6’s user-submitted results, those phones post higher average CPU and GPU scores than A15-equipped iPhones—but the figures compare whole phones, not chips tested under identical conditions. The A15 also has different GPU configurations across models, so the exact iPhone matters.
Which iPhones use A17 Pro and A15 Bionic?
Apple puts A17 Pro in iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. A15 Bionic appears in several models, including iPhone 13, iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus, as well as iPhone SE (3rd generation). Apple’s comparison page also shows A15 in the iPhone 13 mini. The chip name alone therefore does not identify one exact device configuration. Apple’s iPhone comparison lists the relevant model specifications.

How do their specifications differ?
The available specifications support a practical distinction: A17 Pro belongs to the iPhone 15 Pro generation, while A15 Bionic spans multiple iPhone generations and configurations. Apple lists A15 devices with a six-core CPU and 16-core Neural Engine, but the GPU core count depends on the phone.
- iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus have a five-core A15 GPU.
- iPhone 13 mini and iPhone SE (3rd generation) have a four-core A15 GPU.
That variation matters most when comparing graphics results. A score for one A15 iPhone should not automatically be treated as the score for every A15 device.

Geekbench 6 benchmark comparison
Geekbench Browser’s device chart reports user-submitted Geekbench 6 averages. The figures below are a snapshot observed on October 7, 2026; the chart is live and does not label these values as an annual study. Geekbench associates 3.8 GHz with the A17 Pro iPhone 15 models and 3.2 GHz with A15 iPhones in its device chart. These are chart-listed device values, not a controlled measurement of the chips in otherwise identical phones.
| Phone and chip | CPU average | GPU average | Clock listed by Geekbench |
|---|---|---|---|
| iPhone 15 Pro Max, A17 Pro | 2,532 | 6,872 | 3.8 GHz |
| iPhone 15 Pro, A17 Pro | 2,511 | 6,835 | 3.8 GHz |

What the scores do—and do not—show
The listed iPhone 15 Pro models have higher Geekbench 6 CPU and GPU averages than the listed A15 phones. That supports the conclusion that these A17 Pro-equipped phones perform better in these charted tests. It does not establish a universal speed advantage for every app or task, nor does it isolate the chip from the rest of each phone.
- CPU and GPU scores describe different workloads. Keep them separate rather than treating one number as a general performance rating.
- These are phone-level averages. The models differ, and cooling, software, battery condition and test conditions can affect submitted results.
- The A15 GPU varies by model. A comparison involving an A15 phone with a four-core GPU is not interchangeable with one using a five-core GPU.
For another comparison, NanoReview reports Geekbench 6 sample scores of 2,969 single-core and 7,599 multi-core for A17 Pro, versus 2,315 and 5,753 for A15 Bionic. Its retrieved comparison does not establish a matched-phone controlled protocol, so those figures are secondary context rather than a chip-only verdict. NanoReview’s A17 Pro and A15 Bionic comparison provides its figures and comparison details.

How to use the comparison when choosing a phone
A17 Pro’s newer generation and higher chart averages may matter if your priorities include demanding apps or graphics-heavy tasks. But the chip comparison cannot tell you which phone is the better purchase. Compare the actual models you can buy, including price, condition, camera, display, storage, battery claims and software-support needs. Apple’s model comparison is useful for device-level specifications; benchmark averages are only one input.
