What the API combines—and why normalization matters
Public job feeds do not describe a listing in a consistent way. One source might express salary as a text range, another as separate numeric values, while another omits it. Locations may be free-form, employment-type labels can vary or be missing, and descriptions may arrive as HTML. The same opening can also appear on multiple boards.
The aggregator collects records from five sources: RemoteOK, Remotive, Himalayas, Jobicy, and We Work Remotely. It uses public JSON APIs for the first four and reads We Work Remotely’s main and category RSS feeds, according to the repository.

What the common record contains
The project’s output example includes a source label, title, company, location, a compact remoteRegion, category, tags, employment type, salary fields, plain-text description, application URL, publication timestamp, and an isNew flag. The point is not that every feed supplies every field; normalization gives downstream tools consistent places to look while preserving missingness and source differences.
How it handles source differences
- Salary ranges can be parsed into numeric minimum and maximum values and a currency field when the source data permits.
- Location rules map varied location text into a more compact remote-region value.
- Employment types are standardized across differing labels.
- HTML descriptions are converted to plain text.
- Duplicate listings are reduced so the output retains one record for each title/company pair.
That last rule is useful for a cleaner feed, but a title/company pair is a practical deduplication key, not proof that two postings are identical in every respect.

What you can do with the normalized output
The repository documents keyword, category, hiring-region, and age filters, with exports to JSON, CSV, Excel, and XML. It also describes scheduled runs and a monitor mode that returns listings not seen before. Those features support a range of workflows:

That is the author’s stated example-run performance, not an independently validated benchmark; actual inventory changes by source and time.

Source access, freshness, and browser limitations
Himalayas pagination and rate limits
The Himalayas API documentation says its browse API uses cursor pagination and returns a maximum of 20 records per request. It also warns that rate limits can produce HTTP 429 responses. A collector should follow pagination rather than assume one request returns a complete inventory, and should handle rate limiting rather than retry aggressively.
Can you call the API from browser JavaScript?
Not directly for the documented Himalayas API: its responses do not include Access-Control-Allow-Origin, so browser cross-origin requests are blocked. Himalayas recommends routing requests through a backend or serverless function, or fetching data during a build step. A server-side layer can also cache the feed; the documentation says it refreshes daily.

Publicly accessible does not mean unrestricted republication. Check each source’s current terms for attribution, linking, request frequency, and downstream redistribution before using its listings in a public product. Preserve the original source label and listing URL, and direct applicants to the original listing rather than implying that your normalized record is the authoritative posting.

Himalayas states that users may use its public API for job boards, job-search experiences, internal dashboards, and AI or automation. It asks users to link to the job URL and identify Himalayas as the original source. Its documentation also says not to submit its jobs to third-party sites such as Jooble, Neuvoo, Google Jobs, or LinkedIn Jobs. Those are Himalayas-specific conditions, not universal rules for all five feeds. The project describes itself as not a LinkedIn or Indeed scraper.
Run the code yourself or use the hosted Actor
The repository identifies the project as MIT-licensed, offering a self-hosting route for developers able to manage fetching, scheduling, storage, monitoring, and operational changes. A hosted version is listed as an Apify Actor at $1 per 1,000 job listings on the Apify Store page accessed October 7, 2026. Marketplace pricing and availability can change, so confirm the live listing before budgeting.
The choice is a trade-off: hosted processing reduces the need to operate the collection workflow yourself, while self-hosting gives you control over deployment and maintenance. Neither option removes the need to observe each source’s access and reuse conditions.
Keep similarly named projects separate
This five-board project uses Himalayas alongside RemoteOK, Remotive, Jobicy, and We Work Remotely. A separate keyless API article describes a different source set that includes Hacker News Who’s Hiring and does not list Himalayas. Do not assume its inputs or behavior describe this aggregator.
