A new Ape Escape game may be in the works, according to a rumor attributed to insider NateTheHate2. Sony has not announced a game, and the reports do not identify its developer, platform, format or release timing. The clearest reported detail is that Team Asobi is not involved—but that, too, is an insider claim, not an official confirmation.
What the Ape Escape rumor actually says
Press Start’s October 2, 2026 report says NateTheHate2 corroborated rumors of an Ape Escape return. Push Square connects the claim to remarks the insider reportedly made on ResetEra. This is reporting about an insider’s statements, not a PlayStation announcement.

That distinction matters: the available coverage does not establish whether a project has been formally approved or what kind of release it would be. It could be a sequel, remake, remaster or something else; none of the cited reports says which.
Is Team Asobi making it?
According to the insider’s remarks as relayed by Press Start, Push Square and Gameranx, Team Asobi is not working on the rumored game. That is the most consistent development detail in the reports, but it remains attributed to the insider rather than confirmed by Sony or the studio.

- Requires Dual-Shock Analog Controller to play
What about Bandai Namco?
The Bandai Namco claim is less firm. Push Square reports that the insider said, “to his knowledge,” the project had not been outsourced to Bandai Namco. Gameranx says he would double-check that point. It should not be read as a definitive identification—or exclusion—of the developer.
Developer, platform and release date: what is known?
The cited coverage names no studio, platform, genre or release window. Playnews’s October 3, 2026 explainer likewise says there is no public confirmation or identified release plan. Until Sony or a developer announces details, there is no confirmed platform to plan around and no date to anticipate.

Does Astro Bot’s Ape Escape level confirm a new game?
No. Press Start notes that Astro Bot includes an Ape Escape-themed level in which the player becomes Spike and captures apes. It is a recent connection to the franchise, but a cameo is not evidence that a separate Ape Escape game has been announced. Players who want to revisit that connection can find it in Astro Bot; it is not the rumored standalone project.
