On the Kubuntu Focus Ar Gen 1 configuration he reviewed, the Copilot-branded key did not launch AI features: reviewer Patrick Campanale says Kubuntu treated it as a standard key. That was only one of his complaints. He also disliked the keyboard flex, the touchpad’s tilt-based clicking and the flexible feel of the display and chassis. Those are his hands-on impressions, not proof of a defect across every unit or setup.
What happened when the reviewer pressed the Copilot key?
In his September 21, 2026 review for How-To Geek, syndicated by Yahoo Tech, Campanale reports that the key did not trigger AI functionality in the Linux installation supplied with his laptop. He says pressing it behaved like pressing a standard key; holding Fn while clicking it brought up the right-click menu. That describes the reviewed machine and installation, not what the key must do in every configuration or after remapping.

Campanale’s bemused reaction was: “Also, there’s a Copilot key on this Linux laptop. Why? I have no idea.” The key was an odd fit for the supplied software, but his larger concern was the laptop’s physical feel.
What disappointed him about the hardware?
Keyboard
Campanale reports flex in the keyboard deck, despite the manufacturer’s “no-flex” wording. This is a subjective hands-on observation; the review does not establish a measured failure rate or long-term durability problem.

Touchpad
He found the touchpad’s tilt-based clicking awkward. That critique concerns how the input device felt to him, rather than a documented functional failure.
Display and chassis
The reviewer describes the display and chassis as flexible or flimsy-feeling. He also notes positives: the laptop felt light relative to its performance, and he enjoyed using the matte, high-refresh-rate screen. The review does not provide instrumented display color-accuracy measurements or an independent durability test.

What does the Ar Gen 1 offer on paper?
Kubuntu Focus positions the Ar Gen 1 as a Linux-first laptop: the company says its systems are validated and preconfigured for Linux. Its published specifications for the Ar Gen 1 include:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- A 16-inch LED IPS display with 2560×1600 resolution, 16:10 aspect ratio, 165 Hz refresh rate and brightness up to 450 nits.

Those are manufacturer-published specifications, not independent measurements from Campanale’s review. Kubuntu Focus also advertises 10 hours of “real world” battery life; the review does not independently verify that figure.

How does the Linux setup factor into the purchase?
The seller’s appeal is more than shipping a laptop with Linux installed. Kubuntu Focus says it optimizes and validates its hardware for Linux, and its order page says each system is built to customer specification and checked against more than 127 Key Product Characteristics before shipment. The seller lists checks including the keyboard, display, memory, GPU, CPU, thermals, suspend/resume and peripherals. These are the manufacturer’s claims about its process, not independent certification.
That support may matter to someone who wants a preconfigured system from a vendor focused on Linux. It does not settle whether the keyboard, touchpad or chassis will feel good to a particular buyer, nor does it make the Copilot key useful in the supplied setup described by the reviewer.

Was the reviewed configuration worth its price?
Campanale reviewed the “AWESOME: dev” configuration. His article, published September 21, 2026, reported that configurations started at $1,950 and that his review unit cost $2,125. Those are prices reported at publication, not confirmed current offers. After several weeks, he wrote: “I can’t really recommend it at its full price of $2,125 for the configuration Kubuntu sent me for review.”

That is the reviewer’s comparison, not a current like-for-like price check or a Linux compatibility certification for every Yoga configuration. Before deciding, compare current prices and equivalent processor, memory, storage, warranty and support; also distinguish vendor-supported Linux configurations from laptops on which Linux can simply be installed.

Who should consider the Ar Gen 1?
The Ar Gen 1 may suit buyers who value a vendor-preconfigured Linux system and its published display and connectivity specifications. The review is a warning to weigh that convenience against subjective concerns about typing feel, touchpad operation and perceived chassis stiffness—and to try the machine in person if those qualities are decisive. Its Copilot key is a curiosity, not a reason to expect AI functionality in the reviewed Linux installation.
