A compatible StarFire receiver alone does not establish that AutoTrac or AutoPath is available. Use the documentation for your display generation and configuration, then check setup and diagnostic indicators in the cab.
How to check compatibility for your John Deere setup
Start by recording the components and the operation you want to perform. Compatibility is configuration-specific: a component listed for one display or application is not proof that it fits every Deere machine or feature.
Record the complete configuration
- Machine and implement model, plus serial number where applicable.
- Display family and installed software version.
- StarFire receiver model and receiver software version.
- Guidance controller and the AutoTrac mode you intend to use.
- Correction signal or accuracy tier, and any required activation or license.
- Implement or control unit, intended crop or operation, and any source-operation data required.
Use the matching compatibility documentation
- Open John Deere StellarSupport and select the product family and release that match your display. Check the applicable software, release notes, installation instructions, archive and compatibility links.
- Use compatibility tables for the specific display generation and relevant software bundle. Older tables may show superseded versions or restrictions, so do not treat them as universal current fitment evidence.
- Verify receiver and controller support, signal requirements, activations, implement requirements and the machine’s serial-number conditions separately. A receiver being supported does not by itself qualify the system for a guidance feature.
- If public documentation does not settle the fit, ask a Deere dealer or support to verify the machine, serial number, region, account permissions and connectivity requirements.
StellarSupport displayed these release examples when accessed on October 4, 2026. They illustrate why checking the exact product family and release matters; they are not an instruction to install a version without checking its compatibility with your machine.
| Product family | Release displayed | Displayed release date |
|---|---|---|
| StarFire 7500 | 26.4, version 2.70F | September 2026 |
| G5 / G5 Plus | 26.3, version 11.3.4160-XX | June 2026 |
| GreenStar 3 2630 | 26.3 | July 2026 |
What the StarFire receiver does—and what it does not establish
A StarFire receiver acquires positioning and differential-correction signals used by applications such as AutoTrac. It is one part of the precision system, not a guarantee that the display, controller, signal, activation or implement supports a particular feature.

The John Deere 4640 Onscreen Help page for StarFire receivers lists the StarFire 3000, 6000, 7000 and 7500 for the scope of that help documentation. Do not apply that list as a universal compatibility table for other display generations or machine configurations. The same help explains that the receiver’s integrated terrain compensation module (TCM) compensates for machine dynamics such as roll and pitch. It says TCM in integrated StarFire 6000, 7000 and 7500 receivers is factory-calibrated; consult the receiver manual for the relevant field-calibration instructions and your specific setup.
When configuring a receiver, check its correction mode and frequency, mounting direction, fore/aft reference and height, QuickStart setting, and hours on after shutdown against the matching display and receiver manuals. The correct fore/aft reference depends on receiver placement and whether the implement pivots. Incorrect mounting height can cause under- or over-compensation for machine roll.

How to calibrate the TCM and address skip or overlap
John Deere’s 4640 help states that TCM must be on for AutoTrac to engage. Calibration establishes a zero roll-and-pitch reference, so perform it on a hard, flat, level surface and follow the on-screen procedure for the machine’s axle and track configuration.
- Park on a hard, flat, level surface and follow the 4640 display’s TCM calibration prompts. The procedure uses two directions; keep tire positions consistent as specified for the machine configuration.
- If passes show a consistent skip or overlap, calibrate on level ground and compare the same pass in opposite directions. A mounting-angle or surface offset can produce a persistent pass-to-pass mismatch.
- If the mismatch remains, the 4640 help directs the operator to measure the offset and enter it as the implement offset.
Do not routinely repeat calibration unless the receiver is attached or re-attached, or its angle relative to the machine changes. Follow the calibration instructions for the actual receiver and display; the 4640 help is not a substitute for configuration-specific manuals.

What AutoPath requires
AutoPath derives guidance lines from recorded operation data, machine offsets and track spacing. The John Deere S7 Combine Onscreen Help page specifies these requirements for AutoPath:
- A setup file containing AutoPath data.
- A 4600, 4640 or G5 display with software version 10.18.xxx or newer.
- An AutoPath activation or license.
- A StarFire receiver with SF3 or greater.
- John Deere or Reichhardt GREEN FIT AutoTrac.
- An annually planted row crop; the help says perennial crops are not supported.
Source operations include planting, tillage and product application, with additional receiver, row-data and implement requirements. Check the source data and the machine, implement and display configuration before diagnosing generated lines. Only one AutoPath file can be imported per field; importing a new file overwrites the previous one. Confirm that these requirements apply to your specific equipment and intended use before relying on the S7 help page for another configuration.

How to use AutoTrac Health to narrow down a guidance issue
AutoTrac Health can show off-track error, heading error, yaw rate, surface roughness, wheel slip, GPS accuracy and signal strength, as well as the installed AutoTrac mode and wheel-angle information. Use the readings to narrow the investigation rather than treating any single indicator as proof of a root cause.
The 4640 help gives the following off-track targets for good conditions. These are Deere’s stated benchmarks for the specified speed ranges, not universal tolerances for every machine or field condition.

John Deere’s 4640 display help says wheel slip greater than 6% may negatively affect AutoTrac performance. It also says that a wheel-angle sensor reading more than 1° off while traveling straight, as indicated by yaw rate, signals a bias that needs correction. These are operational diagnostic indicators, not evidence that one condition is the only cause.
Check likely causes in a practical order
- Review GPS accuracy and receiver signal strength, then confirm the selected correction mode and signal are appropriate for the configuration.
- Check receiver mounting, TCM status and calibration, and whether the receiver angle has changed.
- Review wheel slip, tires, machine setup and wheel-angle sensor bias; correct a bias according to the relevant service or display instructions.
- Confirm implement offsets, AutoTrac mode, operating speed and surface conditions. Roughness and slip can affect performance even when the receiver is receiving a signal.
When to use Operations Center or ask a dealer
John Deere describes Operations Center as supporting equipment and field setup, planning, monitoring and analysis. Its feature information also describes JDLink data connection and Remote Display Access for support. Availability depends on the equipment, account, connectivity and region. See John Deere Operations Center features for current details.
If the display cannot resolve a setup issue, Remote Display Access may help support personnel see the display, where the service and configuration allow it. For unresolved compatibility questions, have the machine and implement model, serial number, display and software, receiver, controller, signal, activation and intended operation ready when contacting a dealer. Deere’s Precision Upgrades page is another place to review upgrade options, but an option’s presence does not establish fit for a particular machine; verify the exact configuration and regional availability.
