To keep a website screenshot readable in Google Docs, capture only the detail you need, insert the image as a file if copy-paste gives the wrong result, and make the relevant area occupy more of the page. Crop irrelevant margins, use landscape orientation when a useful image is still too wide, and remember that enlarging an image cannot restore detail missing from the original capture.
1. Capture the part readers need to see
A full-page screenshot can make important text too small once it is fitted into a document. If the page contains several details worth showing, use separate focused screenshots rather than shrinking the entire page to fit. Keep enough surrounding content to make the evidence understandable, but omit browser controls, blank margins, and unrelated sections when they add no context.
There is no universal minimum screenshot width established by Google Docs guidance. Judge the result by whether the smallest important text remains legible at the image size readers will encounter.
2. Insert the intended image into Docs
- Try copy and paste. Google Docs supports pasting an image copied from a website. If the pasted result is not the screenshot you intended, save the screenshot to your computer instead.
- Upload the saved file. In Docs, choose Insert > Image > Upload from computer and select the screenshot. Google also documents dragging and dropping an image into a document.
Saving and uploading is a useful fallback when copy-paste produces an unexpected image; Google’s help documentation does not promise identical fidelity for every capture method.

3. Give the screenshot more usable space
Resize and crop
Select the image and use Docs’ image size and scale controls to make the meaningful content larger on the page. Crop off irrelevant page regions or margins so the useful portion can take up more of the available width. Resizing helps only when the source image contains enough detail: it cannot recover small text or other information that was already indistinct in the original capture.
Switch to landscape when width matters
If a useful screenshot is still too wide for a portrait page, change the page orientation to landscape in a page-based document. Google Docs page settings are not available in pageless format, so this option requires a Pages-mode document.

Adjust image appearance carefully
Docs offers brightness and contrast adjustments. Use them only when they make the screenshot easier to distinguish; check that changing the appearance does not obscure the detail the image is meant to show. Google recommends high contrast to help readers distinguish text and image content.
4. Add accessibility context and inspect the result
Add alternative text that describes what the screenshot shows or what evidence the reader should notice. Google says alternative text gives screen-reader users an audio description of images and other graphics. A useful description is specific—for example, identify the page area and the visible status or message, rather than writing only “screenshot.”

Google Docs’ document zoom can be changed from 50% to 200% to make the document easier to inspect while editing. Zoom changes your current view; it does not increase detail embedded in the screenshot or change the view for other people who open the document.
5. Choose the right layout
