To make a Streamlabs Cloudbot custom command, enable Cloudbot, open Commands → Custom, add a trigger and response, set who can use it, then save and test it in chat. Variables such as {channel.name} can insert changing information into a response. Cloudbot must be enabled and have the necessary chat permissions before either can work.
How do I create a custom command?
- Enable Cloudbot. In the Streamlabs dashboard, open Cloudbot and turn it on. The setup guide also describes granting the bot moderator permissions. For Twitch and Kick, it gives the chat command
/mod Streamlabs; for YouTube, it directs creators to YouTube Studio’s Community settings to add Streamlabs as a moderator. Platform interfaces can change, so check the current Streamlabs and platform instructions if the labels differ. - Open the custom-command controls. Go to Commands → Custom and select Add Command. You can enter a command from scratch or start from a template.
- Choose a trigger. For example, use
!socialsfor a response that shares your social links. Keep the trigger easy to type and distinct from ordinary chat. - Write the response. Enter the text Cloudbot should send. You can include a variable where supported; for example,
{channel.name}inserts the channel name. - Set access and reply behavior. Choose which roles may use the command and whether its response should appear in Chat or, where supported, Whisper.
- Save and test it. With Cloudbot enabled, invoke the command in chat. Start with a simple response so you can tell whether the trigger and permissions work before adding more settings.
What are variables?
A variable is a placeholder Cloudbot replaces with information from chat or the streaming service. It lets one command return information that can vary by channel or user instead of repeating fixed text. These are examples, not a complete list of supported tokens:
{channel.name}— the channel name.{touser.name}— a user’s name. Depending on the command and target argument, it can refer to the person who called the command or another named user.{touser.followage}— how long the relevant user has followed the channel.
For example, a !followage response can use {touser.followage} to report the requester’s follow duration. The tutorial also demonstrates using a target username to show another user’s follow duration. A variable’s availability can depend on the Cloudbot section where it is used. Streamlabs’ variables reference is the place to check supported tokens, but its linked page may require a login.
Choose a trigger that matches how viewers will use it
Commands
A command commonly starts with an exclamation mark, such as !socials, and Streamlabs’ advanced-settings tutorial says it must appear at the beginning of a message. Use this format for a deliberate, easy-to-recognize chat action.

Aliases
An alias is another trigger for the same command. For example, !following can be set as an alias for !followage. Aliases are useful when viewers might use different wording, while keeping one response to maintain.
Keywords
A keyword can match text without an exclamation mark or a message-start requirement, and it may contain spaces. That flexibility also makes accidental triggers more likely: choose a distinctive phrase and test it against ordinary chat before relying on it.

Set permissions, reply mode, and cooldowns
| Setting | What it controls | When it helps |
|---|---|---|
| Permissions | Which available chat roles can invoke the command; examples in the tutorial include regulars, subscribers, moderators, and streamer. | Restrict commands that should not be available to every viewer, or leave a general-information command broadly accessible. |
| Reply mode | Chat sends a public reply. Whisper sends a private reply where available. | Use Chat for information useful to everyone. Use Whisper when a response is intended only for the requester, if the platform supports it. |
| Global cooldown | Prevents anyone from using the command again until the configured seconds have passed. | Limit how often a busy chat can trigger the same public response. |
| User cooldown | Pauses repeat use by the person who invoked the command; other users are not affected by that user’s cooldown. | Prevent one person from repeatedly triggering a command without blocking everyone else. |
| Cost | Charges loyalty points to use a command; the tutorial describes role-based costs for moderators, subscribers, regulars, and other users. | Make a command an optional loyalty-points redemption. Check the configured role costs and ensure the intended users can afford them. |
The December 9, 2025 Streamlabs tutorial says Whisper was available only on Twitch at the time it was published. Availability can change and may differ by platform, so check the current controls rather than assuming private replies are supported everywhere.
Test a command before using it on stream
- Confirm Cloudbot is on for the platform where you are testing, and that it has the required chat permission.
- Check that the individual command is enabled and that you typed its trigger in the expected form.
- Test as a user allowed by the command’s permissions. If it has a loyalty cost, verify the test user can pay it.
- Check whether a global or user cooldown is still active.
- If the response includes a variable, confirm that the token is supported in that Cloudbot section and that its target is the user you intended.
- Try the simplest possible response. If that works, add the variable or advanced settings back one at a time.
Troubleshoot commands that do not respond
| Symptom | What to check |
|---|---|
| No command responds | Cloudbot may be off, connected to a different platform, or missing chat permission. Verify the bot’s status and the relevant platform’s current moderator or permission setup. |
| Only one command fails | Check that the command is enabled, its trigger is typed correctly, and the user meets its permission requirements. |
| The bot ignores a repeated attempt | Check both global and user cooldowns. A global cooldown affects everyone; a user cooldown affects only the user who triggered it. |
| The command has a cost and does not run | Check the loyalty-point balance and role-based cost settings for the user invoking it. |
| A variable is blank or incorrect | Confirm the token is available in that section and check whether the command expects a target username. Variable examples should not be treated as proof that every token works in every command type. |
| A YouTube bot or response does not appear | Streamlabs’ troubleshooting page, originally published in 2021, lists a public stream as a condition for the bot to join and notes timer interval and line-minimum requirements for timers. Because that guidance is older and platform behavior can change, verify the current requirements in Streamlabs and YouTube’s instructions. |
Or let it run in the cloud
Cloudbot commands configure chat responses; they do not keep a prerecorded YouTube video live. If you want an uploaded recording or playlist to run as a 24/7 YouTube stream, StreamNeo is a separate cloud service: upload the video, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it streams your upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, and the monthly option is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo or start the free day.
