Fortnite Sidekicks are customizable companions that react to the world in supported Fortnite experiences. They are cosmetics, not scouts: Epic says they do not detect enemies or items. Before choosing one, know that its physical appearance traits are permanent, even though you can change its name and accessories.
What are Fortnite Sidekicks?
Epic introduced Sidekicks as customizable companions that join players in Fortnite experiences. Its October 30, 2025 announcement lists Battle Royale, LEGO Fortnite, developer-made experiences, and more. Sidekicks react to the world, but they do not detect enemies or items.
Where can you use and see a Sidekick?
Being supported across experiences does not mean a Sidekick is visible to everyone in every mode. In Battle Royale, players see only the Sidekicks belonging to their team. Visibility in other experiences varies. Epic’s published information does not provide a definitive compatibility list for every island or mode, so check the relevant experience and current Epic support information if a specific island matters to you.
What can you customize—and what is permanent?
Sidekicks let you change their name and accessories, but the physical traits you choose determine their future appearance and cannot be changed later. Epic’s announcement and item pages warn that appearance choices are permanent. Make those selections carefully before confirming them.

How do you get a Sidekick?
Acquisition depends on the individual Sidekick. Epic’s 2025 launch announcement described several different routes: Peels was to be unlocked through the next Battle Pass; Bonesy, Spike, and Lil’ Raptor were to arrive in the Item Shop; and owners of the Bonesy Back Bling were to receive the Bonesy Sidekick. Those are launch-era examples, not a complete or current catalog.
Official listings reviewed in 2026 showed Stone Gryphon, Kit, and Empress at 1,200 V-Bucks each. Kit and Empress listings also described quest rewards. These examples do not establish a standard price or unlock method for other Sidekicks. Shop rotations and item-specific quests can change, so check Fortnite’s in-game Item Shop for current availability and the details shown for the item.

What do Sidekicks mean for Fortnite creators?
In its June 5, 2026 creator announcement, Epic said Fortnite Sidekicks can be used as scriptable NPCs in UEFN. Creators can customize them through preset channels, with four to eight channels depending on the Sidekick. Epic says all Fortnite Sidekicks are available in the NPC Spawner, except licensed Sidekicks, which cannot be used as NPCs.
Creators can also use Cosmetic Sync so a Sidekick NPC changes to match a joining player’s equipped Sidekick. Epic says this can include licensed Sidekicks, even though those licensed versions cannot themselves be used as NPCs. Customization options vary by character; creators cannot build an entirely new Sidekick from scratch.

How to compare Sidekicks before choosing one
There is no universally best Sidekick established by the available official information. Compare the details that affect your use:

- How you obtain it: Check whether it comes from the Item Shop, a Battle Pass, a quest, or an ownership grant.
- Price and availability: Confirm the current in-game listing rather than relying on an older shop snapshot.
- Included rewards: Look for item-specific quests or unlocks in the listing.
- Appearance options: Review available choices before purchase or customization because physical traits are permanent.
- Where it appears: Visibility differs by experience; Battle Royale visibility is limited to your team.
- Creator use: If you are building an island, check whether the Sidekick is licensed, since licensed Sidekicks cannot be used as NPCs.
