AI security tools can help detect, prevent, and contain some AI-assisted attacks, but they cannot guarantee that every attack will be stopped. They work best as one layer of a security program that also limits exposure, uses sound security controls, monitors activity, and prepares for incident response.
What does “AI-driven attack” mean?
The phrase can describe two different situations, and the distinction matters when choosing defenses.
- Attacks using AI: An attacker uses AI to assist malicious activity, such as creating or adapting material for an attack. AI may be used alongside conventional tools and services; OpenAI reported that its February 2026 case studies involved threat actors combining AI with tools such as websites and social media accounts. OpenAI’s account describes those observations.
- Attacks targeting AI systems: The target is a model, its data, or an AI-enabled application. NIST’s 2025 taxonomy covers categories including evasion, poisoning, privacy, and misuse attacks. See NIST’s taxonomy and terminology.
These categories can overlap, but they are not interchangeable. A tool that detects suspicious activity in an organization’s network does not necessarily protect a model from data poisoning, and an AI-specific model control does not by itself prevent an attacker from exploiting an exposed system.
How can AI security tools help?
AI can support defensive work by helping teams analyze threats, find security gaps, validate detections, and automate some remediation. Microsoft describes these uses in its Digital Defense Report 2025. These are potential functions, not proof that a particular product will stop a given attack in every environment.

CISA also identifies capability areas such as adversarial AI countermeasures, AI for zero trust, AI-powered cyber defense, system assurance, and drift detection on its Open Innovation & Technologies of Interest page. Those categories describe areas of interest; they are not a comparative test of products or evidence of a universal prevention rate.
What can these tools not promise?
No prevention-rate figure or independent cross-product effectiveness statistic is established by the sources cited here. That means there is no supported percentage to apply to “AI-driven attacks” as a whole. Product performance depends on the threat scenario, the organization’s systems and configuration, and the controls already in place.

Microsoft’s findings are vendor-reported, while OpenAI’s account describes the company’s own observations. Neither should be read as a neutral ranking of security products. Treat product claims as claims to validate in your own environment rather than as guarantees.
What should organizations do alongside AI security tools?
Secure AI systems throughout their lifecycle
CISA and the UK National Cyber Security Centre’s guidance covers secure design, model development, system development, deployment, and operation. It is aimed primarily at AI system providers and encourages other stakeholders to use it as well. The agencies said the guidance applies to all types of AI systems, not only frontier models. - Trade an earlier-generation WatchGuard appliance and move up to a new WatchGuard solution. The program includes options to trade up to a physical or virtual appliance. The owner must retire an earlier generation WatchGuard appliance to activate Trade Up products. By retiring a WatchGuard product, it no longer appears amongst your managed products; it is incapable of upgrades, add-on activation, or software downloads, and ownership cannot be transferred.

Reduce ordinary internet exposure
AI-enabled defenses do not replace basic exposure management. CISA’s June 4, 2025 Internet Exposure Reduction Guidance calls attention to weaknesses such as misconfigured systems, default credentials, and outdated software on internet-accessible assets, and recommends identifying and removing such exposures.
Prepare to share incident information
CISA’s January 14, 2025 announcement describes the JCDC AI Cybersecurity Collaboration Playbook as a voluntary approach to sharing information about AI-related incidents and vulnerabilities. Its stated purpose is to help organizations protect against emerging AI threats if they adopt the processes. See CISA’s announcement and the playbook.

Check which guidance applies
Guidance changes, and its coverage can be specific to a version. CISA’s Cybersecurity Performance Goals FAQ says the current CPG version described on that page does not yet explicitly address generative-AI-based cyber threats. That qualification is about that version of the CPG, not a statement that no other AI security guidance exists.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How should you evaluate an AI security product?
Since the cited sources do not rank products or establish a universal effectiveness rate, evaluate a tool against your own risks and operations. Ask vendors and your security team:
Best Value
- Single appliance with integrated firewalling, SD-WAN and Wi-Fi controller reduces complexity of WLAN management. Its zero-touch deployment helps optimize your onboarding experience.
- Built on a patented secure processor, this compact network firewall delivers the highest level of security and performance in its class – 800 Mbps IPS | 500 Mbps threat protection.
- User-friendly management console gives you centralized visibility and simplifies policy enforcement across your network. Its zero-touch deployment helps you optimize your onboarding experience.
- Compact and fanless design equipped with 4 GE RJ45 ports (1 WAN port and 3 internal ports) provide essential connectivity and flexibility for various network configurations in a small-scale environment.
- Does the product address attacks using AI, attacks targeting AI systems, or both? Which specific scenarios are in scope?
- What does it detect or prevent, and what response actions can it take?
- How does it integrate with your identity systems and security operations?
- What evidence and logs does it retain for investigation?
- How are false positives handled, and how does response fit existing procedures?
- Can you validate its performance against representative threats in your own environment, and what independently verifiable evidence is available?
Keep claims about one threat category separate from claims about another: a result for AI-assisted phishing, for example, would not establish protection against model evasion or poisoning.
