RAM Prices: More Increases Expected Before 2026 Ends

TrendForce expects conventional DRAM contract prices to rise in 4Q26, adding pressure to PC memory costs. The forecast does not mean every consumer RAM kit will increase by the same amount.

Further RAM price increases are expected before the end of 2026—but the clearest forecast is for supplier contract prices, not the amount you will pay for a kit in a shop. TrendForce’s September 30 forecast projects conventional DRAM contract prices to rise 10–15% quarter over quarter in 4Q26. That points to continued cost pressure for PC memory, not a guaranteed matching increase on every consumer product.

What the latest forecast says

TrendForce forecasts that conventional DRAM contract prices will increase 10–15% quarter over quarter in 4Q26. The forecast, published September 30, 2026, is a projection for the prices suppliers negotiate with customers—not a confirmed result or a retail-price forecast. It does not say that every RAM kit, retailer, or region will see the same percentage change. TrendForce’s September 30 forecast is the basis for the “meaningful increases” claim.

The forecast pace is lower than TrendForce’s earlier projection for 3Q26: in July, it forecast a 13–18% quarter-over-quarter rise in conventional DRAM contract prices for that quarter. These are forecasts issued at different dates for different quarters, not measured consumer price changes. TrendForce also forecast a 55–60% increase for 1Q26 in January. The percentages should not be added together or presented as an annual retail increase.

Why conventional DRAM is under pressure

TrendForce says memory suppliers are continuing to prioritize advanced-process capacity for high-performance server products. Demand connected to AI infrastructure is supporting server procurement, while the broader conventional DRAM market remains undersupplied. That supply allocation can tighten availability for PC memory even though the server market and consumer RAM are distinct product categories.

PC makers are still procuring DRAM despite rising costs, according to TrendForce, because they expect supply to remain tight into 2027. At the same time, higher component costs are showing up in notebook inventories and weighing on end-market sales. In July, TrendForce said consumer customers were approaching affordability limits amid record-high contract prices. Rising upstream costs therefore create pressure for price increases, but do not guarantee that retailers can pass on every increase without affecting demand.

What this could mean for people buying RAM

Contract prices influence the costs faced by manufacturers and PC makers, so continued increases could feed into the prices of consumer memory products. But the available forecast does not establish a current retail average, a specific Amazon price, or how much of the projected change retailers will pass through. It also does not establish that DDR4 and DDR5 products—or desktop DIMMs and laptop SO-DIMMs—will move by the same amount.

If you already plan to upgrade a desktop, a DDR5 DIMM kit is one relevant PC-memory category, but the forecast alone is not evidence that buying now will save money. Check your motherboard and CPU specifications for supported memory type and configuration before choosing a kit. Laptop memory requirements differ, including whether the system uses replaceable SO-DIMMs at all.

Why server and spot-market news is not a retail price forecast

TrendForce’s October 7 listing says server DRAM supply is increasingly covered by multi-year agreements that may use price-band mechanisms; it also describes spot trading as quiet and flat. Those details concern different categories and pricing arrangements from consumer retail RAM. They do not overturn the 4Q26 conventional DRAM contract forecast, nor do they establish where retail prices will go. TrendForce’s October 7 summary does not provide a detailed retail breakdown.

There are also signs that tightness may last beyond this year, but they are not a specific forecast for consumer kit prices in late 2026. Tom’s Hardware reported October 1 that Micron CEO and chairperson Sanjay Mehrotra said the company sees demand exceeding supply in 2027 and 2028, with greater industry tightness in those years than in 2026. Mehrotra also said Micron did not have line of sight to when supply and demand would return to balance. These remarks indicate Micron’s outlook, not a quantified retail prediction. Tom’s Hardware’s report attributes the comments to Micron’s FY2026 earnings call.
