There is no single Mac mini replacement that suits every buyer: the best choice depends on whether you need Windows, specific ports, upgradeable parts, gaming graphics, or a small system for everyday office work. Options range from configurable ASUS NUC and Lenovo business desktops to budget minis and specialized gaming systems. Compare the exact configuration available in your market rather than treating “mini PC” as one performance class.
How to choose a Mac mini alternative
Start with the software you need to run. Most of the options below are Windows systems, but the Lenovo IdeaCentre Mini x uses an ARM-based Snapdragon platform. Check whether your essential applications and peripherals support the operating system and processor architecture of the exact model. If you depend on a particular Mac app, switching to a Windows mini PC may not be a like-for-like substitution.
Then compare the actual configuration, not just the product name. Check memory capacity and whether it can be upgraded, storage slots and replacement options, the ports and displays you need, wired networking, cooling, noise, mounting, warranty, and the total local price. Small chassis and laptop-class components can be convenient, but they do not guarantee full-size desktop performance during sustained, demanding workloads; Windows Central notes that limitation for mini PCs generally (Windows Central’s mini PC guide).
Compact desktop options to consider
ASUS NUC: configurable general-purpose systems
ASUS’s NUC family is worth considering if you want a compact PC with a range of configuration and connection options. ASUS’s catalog includes models with differing memory, M.2 storage, display outputs, Thunderbolt, and networking. Those capabilities vary by SKU and market, so inspect the listing for the model you would actually buy rather than assuming every NUC has the same ports or upgrade path (ASUS NUC catalog).

ASUS announced the NUC 16 Pro in January 2026 as a 0.7-liter system and advertises up to 180 platform TOPS. That figure is a manufacturer claim about platform AI capability, not an independent speed comparison with a Mac mini or other computers. Treat it as a specification to investigate for an AI-related workload, not as a general performance score (ASUS January 2026 announcements).
ASUS ExpertCenter PN55: a business-oriented mini with an AI emphasis
The ExpertCenter PN55 is another ASUS option, announced with Ryzen AI 400 Series processors and an NPU rated by ASUS at up to 55 TOPS. This is also a vendor capability claim, not a benchmark showing how quickly it will complete a particular task. It may suit buyers seeking a business-oriented compact PC, but processor, memory, ports, and availability depend on the specific configuration and region (ASUS January 2026 announcements).

Lenovo ThinkCentre Neo 50q Gen 5: a business desktop line
The ThinkCentre Neo 50q Gen 5 is a compact business-oriented desktop. Lenovo highlights its Tiny form factor and multiple ports, but the product name alone does not establish the processor, memory, port mix, warranty, or local price of a particular unit. Check the configured model and support terms for your market before comparing it with consumer mini PCs (Lenovo ThinkCentre Neo 50q Gen 5).
Beelink EQR6: a budget-minded productivity example
Windows Central presents the Beelink EQR6 as a budget option for general productivity. In the configurations discussed, it notes upgradeable memory and storage, dual LAN, and dual HDMI, while flagging a single USB-C port and no 32GB RAM option in the described range. Retailer listings and specifications can differ, so verify the exact EQR6 configuration, ports, and memory ceiling before buying (Windows Central’s mini PC guide).

Geekom Mini IT13: upgrade options and multi-display support
Windows Central describes the Geekom Mini IT13 as having upgradeable memory and storage, multiple ports, support for up to four 4K displays, and an included VESA mount. Those are details tied to the model discussed in that guide; confirm them against the precise SKU and current listing. The cited configuration uses an older platform than the latest announcements, so compare its price and capabilities with newer systems before choosing it (Windows Central’s mini PC guide).
Lenovo IdeaCentre Mini x: consider ARM software compatibility
Windows Central describes a Snapdragon X Plus configuration of the IdeaCentre Mini x with 32GB of soldered LPDDR5x memory and up to 1TB of SSD storage. Because the memory is soldered, do not expect to upgrade it later. The ARM-based platform makes application compatibility a central buying check: confirm that your required programs and devices work as expected. Windows Central does not position this configuration as a gaming-first choice (Windows Central’s mini PC guide).

ASUS ROG GR70: for gaming rather than ordinary office use
The ROG GR70 belongs in a different category from everyday office minis. ASUS positions it as a gaming mini PC with RTX 5060 or RTX 5070 laptop GPU options. Check the exact configuration and its cooling, noise, display connections, and local availability if gaming is the priority; a gaming-focused system is not automatically the best-value replacement for a general-purpose desktop (ASUS January 2026 announcements).
ASUS Ascent GX10: a specialist AI system
ASUS’s Ascent GX10 is a compact AI-focused system, not a general Mac mini substitute. Consider it only if its specialized purpose matches your workload, rather than comparing it directly with everyday productivity desktops (ASUS January 2026 announcements).

Match the category to your workload
- Everyday productivity on a budget: Start with systems such as the EQR6, then verify the configuration’s memory limit, USB-C availability, display outputs, and networking.
- Business use and configuration flexibility: Compare ASUS NUC models and Lenovo’s ThinkCentre Neo 50q Gen 5 by exact processor, ports, upgrade options, warranty, and regional support.
- ARM-based Windows: The IdeaCentre Mini x may be worth considering if its configuration suits you, but establish compatibility for your own applications before committing.
- Gaming: Consider a gaming-specific option such as the ROG GR70, and evaluate its graphics configuration and cooling for the games and workloads you have in mind.
- Specialized AI work: Keep systems such as the Ascent GX10 in their specialist category. TOPS figures advertised by vendors are not a substitute for workload-specific performance evidence.
What to verify before you buy
- Confirm software support. List your essential applications and peripherals, then check their compatibility with the operating system and processor architecture—particularly for ARM-based systems.
- Check memory and storage. Confirm installed capacity, whether memory is soldered or replaceable, and which storage slots are available on the exact SKU.
- Count connections. Match the system’s USB, USB-C, display, audio, and wired-network ports to your setup. Confirm the supported number and resolution of displays for the exact model.
- Consider sustained workloads and the desk setup. Look beyond a small footprint: check cooling and noise information, mounting options, and whether the system is suitable for long, intensive tasks.
- Compare the full local offer. Check the exact configuration, price, warranty, and support in your region. Availability and specifications can vary between markets and listings.
