Why I Track AI Quota Reset Announcements—and Why the Site Has No Admin Panel

A provider announcement can tell you that a quota policy changed; it cannot tell you that your own account has reset. That distinction is why I started keeping a dated, cited log of AI quota-reset announcements—and why I chose to manage the site’s content through repository changes and pull requests instead of an admin panel.

Why I started tracking reset announcements

The trigger was personal: I hit 0% on my Codex plan for the third time in a month, and each time I found that the reset schedule had moved. That experience made it difficult to tell when an announced reset had actually landed or which tier was on which clock. It is an account of my own experience, not evidence that reset schedules change at any particular rate for all users.

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

I wanted a dated record that showed what had been announced, when it was announced, and where the information came from. As I put it in my DEV Community post, “A dated, cited reset log turns a schedule change from a rumor into an event.”

What the reset log is—and what it cannot tell you

Alca is a read-only, anonymous comparison site with no sign-up. It brings together information about model access, pricing, free quotas and rate limits across providers. Its reset log is a dated list of announced resets and limit changes, with entries linked to their original posts.

A log entry records a public signal; it does not certify that a particular person’s allowance has refreshed. An announcement may describe a policy or schedule change, while an individual account’s next available reset depends on its plan and usage window. For OpenAI Work and Codex, OpenAI directs users to check Settings → Usage for their remaining allowance and reset times: OpenAI guidance on Work with Apps and Codex usage.

Why quota resets are harder to compare than a date on a page

“Resets daily” or “resets every week” is not enough information to predict when a quota will be available. The scope, cadence and trigger can differ between products, plans and accounts.

Scope: whose usage is counted?

A limit may apply to an individual account or be shared across a project or a pool of users. Google says quotas generally apply at the Cloud project level and are shared across applications and IP addresses in that project. Its Service Usage per-minute rate quotas reset every minute: Google Cloud quota concepts.

Cadence and trigger: fixed clock or first use?

OpenAI describes five-hour and weekly usage windows for Work and Codex, with limits varying by plan. The five-hour window begins with the first Work or Codex message after the prior window ends, so a fixed announcement date does not by itself establish the next reset time for every user: OpenAI guidance on Work with Apps and Codex usage.

Published schedules also differ by product. Gemini Enterprise documentation says pooled quotas for most listed features reset daily at midnight Pacific Time, while AI developer tool quota follows a seven-day cycle beginning with the first prompt or request. Those rules apply to the documented Gemini Enterprise features; they should not be generalized to every Gemini product: Gemini Enterprise quota documentation.

What “reset” means

A reset can refer to different mechanisms, not just a recurring clock. OpenAI distinguishes banked resets, automatic or global resets, and purchased instant resets; eligibility and which limits refresh depend on the offer and account. A reset restores applicable allowance—it is not cash or API credit: OpenAI guidance on Codex plan usage and resets.

Signal and freshness: announcement, dashboard or forecast?

An official announcement, a status signal, measured usage and a forecast are not interchangeable. Alca labels forecast-style “Watch” entries as unconfirmed. A dashboard can also lag: Google says quota values in the console update daily, and changes can take up to 24 hours to appear; metric and alert support varies by service: Google Cloud quota monitoring guidance.

Why there is no admin panel

I chose to keep public content in typed TypeScript files in a repository, including models.ts, offers.ts and codexResets.ts. Changes go through pull requests. Before deployment, CI checks references, URL schemes and slug uniqueness. This puts source links and verification labels beside the data and makes edits reviewable as code changes.

Each row also has a verification_status. verified means I checked and included a source link; unverified marks a placeholder that still needs replacement. These labels make the state of the evidence visible, but they are not a guarantee that a claim is correct. Repository review and automated checks catch some mistakes, not every factual error. An admin panel could support verification too; this is the workflow I chose for this project.

How the feed is maintained

The reset feed is described as regenerating about hourly from a public API, then undergoing validation and typechecking. It is committed only when data changes. Because the upstream blocks datacenter IPs, the process runs on a consumer machine; a manual workflow is the backup. These are descriptions of the site’s implementation, not an independent audit of its operation.

How to use a reset announcement responsibly

  1. Check the source and timestamp. Prefer the original provider announcement over a summary, and note when it was published or updated.
  2. Match the product and eligibility. Confirm the plan, workspace, region and account type the announcement covers.
  3. Identify the quota scope and clock. Determine whether the limit is per account, project or pooled users, and whether its period is fixed or anchored to first use.
  4. Confirm your own allowance. Use the provider’s account or project settings for your remaining quota and reset time; do not treat a tracker entry as proof that your access has refreshed.
  5. Allow for reporting delay. Dashboards and alerts may lag behind a policy change or usage event, depending on the provider and service.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
