The Asylum Overhaul is a horror total conversion for 7 Days to Die. It replaces the familiar survival loop with class-specific story progression, dark nights, a large quest campaign, and enemies that scale through multiple increasingly dangerous variants. The mod adds seven classes, including Gravedigger, Harvester and Enforcer, and gives every class its own backstory, starter equipment and quest chain.
Godlike.Host offers hosted 7 Days to Die servers with its own game panel, SFTP access and free DDoS protection, if you would rather not host it yourself.
Installation needs more care than a normal mod update. Public references disagree about whether the current Asylum build is 3.2.2f or 2.4.4, which version of the base game each build supports, and whether a new save is mandatory. Match the exact Asylum release to your installed game version and verify the save requirement in the project’s current release notes or Discord before committing a world.

What the Asylum Overhaul changes
Asylum is intended to be a total conversion rather than a small weapons or texture pack. Its systems are organized around horror-themed progression: choose a class, follow that class’s dedicated quests, learn to identify enemy variants, and build enough power to survive a much harsher night cycle.
The available feature descriptions are not all from the development team. Counts such as the number of quests, entities and points of interest come from third-party guides, while a social-media release post describes a particular 2.4.4 build. Treat those figures as version-specific estimates, not permanent specifications.

| Feature | What is reported | Evidence and qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Character classes | Seven | Third-party guides; each class is described as having a backstory, starter kit and dedicated quest chain. |
| Quest content | About 320 quests | Figure from a third-party guide; date and build are not stated. |
| Entities | Roughly 600 or more | Figure from a third-party guide; date and build are not stated. |
| POI pieces | About 750 or more | Figure from a third-party guide; date and build are not stated. |
| Horror Icon entities | 84 new entities in the 2.4.4 release | Reported by the 7 Days to Die Mods account on X for that release; it is not an all-version total. |
| Night lighting | Nights are described as pitch black | Players are expected to use carried light sources. |
Because no independently published census of the mod’s content was available, the table’s numbers should guide expectations rather than serve as guaranteed limits. Updates can add or remove content, and a feature count for one build may not describe another.
Classes: seven starting identities with separate stories
Class choice is a central part of the overhaul. Each of the seven classes is described as having three defining elements: a backstory, a starter kit and a dedicated quest chain. That means the opening hours are not merely different loadouts; the class is intended to determine how you are introduced to the world and which objectives you pursue first.

Gravedigger
Gravedigger is one of the named class examples in the published guides. The available descriptions establish its name and class-quest structure, but do not provide a complete perk list or equipment specification. Check the class selection screen in the build you install before planning a long-term skill allocation.
Harvester
Harvester is another named class. As with Gravedigger, the public descriptions confirm that it belongs to the seven-class roster and receives its own starting kit and quest line, but they do not establish every bonus, weapon or crafting recipe. Do not assume that a class name alone reveals its optimal attribute path.

Enforcer
Enforcer is the clearest of the named examples: one guide characterizes its chain as focused on combat and weapons. That makes it the natural starting point for players who want a direct fighting route, although the exact balance of firearms, melee weapons and defensive abilities can change between releases.
How to choose without a complete class sheet
- Pick the class whose opening story and starter equipment fit the way you want to spend the first nights.
- Expect the dedicated quest chain to shape your early objectives, so read its description before creating a permanent world.
- Do not copy a build guide from a different Asylum release until its class names, perks and attribute thresholds match your version.
- If you are playing cooperatively, coordinate class choices; separate quest chains can make a group more flexible, but the available material does not document whether every class quest can be shared or repeated.
Enemy variants and the escalation system
Asylum’s defining combat feature is escalation within an enemy type. One guide lists the following variants: Normal, Feral, Radiated, Infernal, Charged, Cursed and Alpha. The same guide says demons can also appear as Uber variants. A separate source summarizes the system as up to eight progressively nastier variants per opponent. Those descriptions point to a tiered threat model, but they do not prove that every creature appears in every tier.
| Variant name | How to interpret it |
|---|---|
| Normal | Baseline form listed by the guide. |
| Feral | Escalated form listed by the guide. |
| Radiated | Escalated form listed by the guide. |
| Infernal | Escalated form listed by the guide. |
| Charged | Escalated form listed by the guide. |
| Cursed | Escalated form listed by the guide. |
| Alpha | Highest named non-Uber form in that list. |
| Uber | Listed specifically for demons; the source does not establish that all enemy families use it. |
In practical terms, recognizing the name or visual cues of an enemy matters as much as recognizing its species. A familiar creature can become a radically different fight at a higher tier. Carry spare healing, ammunition and escape tools when exploring unfamiliar areas, and avoid treating a previously manageable spawn as harmless simply because its base model looks familiar.
Horror Icons, demon lords and boss-scale threats
The mod also uses fan-made tributes to recognizable horror characters. A single guide names Freddy, Jason, Art the Clown, the Nun and Chucky, estimating roughly 2,000 hit points for each. The same guide mentions 18 named midgame demon lords and 30 Uber demons with 50,000 hit points. Those health values and counts are guide claims, not developer-certified specifications, so they should be treated as approximate and tied to the build covered by that guide.

A separate 2.4.4 release announcement from the 7 Days to Die Mods account on X says that release added 84 new Horror Icon entities and included a demon-combat overhaul. That number describes the 2.4.4 announcement; it should not be combined automatically with the guide’s 600-plus total or assumed to remain unchanged in 3.2.2f.
What these threats mean for progression
- Boss-scale health pools imply sustained encounters rather than quick loot-room fights.
- Variant tiers make scouting and retreat part of normal play; a route that was safe yesterday may not be safe after a stronger spawn appears.
- Because the available material does not publish complete attack, resistance or loot tables, do not plan a boss fight around hit points alone.
- Use your class quest rewards and progression systems to establish a reliable damage and recovery routine before deliberately hunting the highest tiers.
Progression systems beyond ordinary perks
Infernal Ascension
Infernal Ascension is described as unlocking when you reach level 10 in each attribute. It adds demonic enhancement tiers on top of the base perks. The threshold is therefore an account-wide progression goal across attributes, not simply a single early-game skill purchase. The material does not specify every enhancement, its costs or whether the tiers reset, so inspect the in-game menu before spending points around a planned build.
Action Mastery
Action Mastery levels weapons and tools through use. This creates a use-based progression layer in addition to attribute and class advancement: the equipment you actually wield or work with can improve as you continue using it. Rotate new tools and weapons deliberately if you want to develop them, but verify the current build’s mastery rules because the available descriptions do not state exact experience rates, caps or unlocks.
Quests, locations and the night cycle
One third-party guide estimates about 320 quests and more than 750 points-of-interest pieces. The scale suggests a campaign that extends well beyond a short introductory chain. A separate community-wiki description of version 3.0 reports an Asylum bounty system with 139 quests, two new Asylum-exclusive POIs, 150 new zombies, 12 mini-bosses and 10 Uber Warden bosses. Those 3.0 figures are not interchangeable with the approximately 320-quest estimate; they may describe a subset of the campaign or a different build.

Nights are intentionally described as pitch black. A carried light source is not optional convenience in this ruleset: it is how you identify terrain, doors, incoming enemies and escape routes. Keep lighting equipment accessible rather than buried in a backpack, and decide where you will retreat before darkness arrives. The available descriptions do not state whether every light source attracts enemies, so consult the in-game descriptions for the behavior of a particular item.
Vehicles
The listed vehicle roster includes the Warhound and Blood Phoenix. These names come from a third-party feature description, which does not provide statistics such as speed, storage, fuel use or armor. Treat them as examples of the vehicle content rather than a complete catalog.

Reports identify several incompatible-looking version lines:
| Reported Asylum release | Base-game association in the available references | Important caveat |
|---|---|---|
| 3.2.2f | First published 23 September 2026 for game V3.2; another reference says it was updated for game V3.3 on 10 October 2026. | Reports agree on the build label but conflict on the associated game version. A save requirement was not established. |
| 2.4.4 | Listed for 7 Days to Die v2.4b7. | The 84-Horror-Icon figure and demon-combat overhaul are tied to this release announcement. |
| 3.0 | Community-wiki entry identifies this line with game V3.0. | The page also labels 3.2.2f as latest while still showing V3.0, suggesting stale metadata. |
Version 3.0 is specifically reported to require a brand-new save. No equivalent requirement was found for 3.2.2f, so you should not infer that an existing world is safe to reuse. A mod that changes entities, quests and POIs can leave an old world in an unsupported state even when the game launches.
Best Value
Pre-install compatibility checklist
- Read the current Asylum release post and identify the exact mod build number, not just the major version.
- Confirm the base game’s installed version, including its minor or beta designation where applicable.
- Check whether the release requires a new save. If the notes are silent, ask in the project’s current Discord or official support channel rather than guessing.
- Back up existing saves before changing either the game build or the overhaul.
- Install the mod into a clean test profile first and launch a disposable world. Confirm that the class screen, quests and expected entities load before bringing over a valued save.
- Keep the old mod files and save backup until you have verified that the new combination works through a complete load, quit and reload cycle.
There is no blanket compatibility answer for “the latest” 7 Days to Die release because the word latest changes as the base game and Asylum publish separate updates. Compatibility must be checked as a pair: the Asylum build and the exact game build it names.
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
- Using a stale wiki label: the community infobox lists 3.2.2f while the page still displays game V3.0. Treat that as a warning to verify release notes.
- Reusing a pre-3.0 world: version 3.0 is reported to need a new save. Start fresh unless the release you are installing explicitly says otherwise.
- Mixing statistics from different builds: 84 Horror Icons, approximately 320 quests and 3.0’s 139 bounty quests describe different references. Do not add them together.
- Assuming every enemy has every tier: the variant list and “up to eight” wording describe the system broadly; they do not establish a complete matrix for each creature.
- Going out after dark without light: pitch-black nights make a light source core equipment, not an optional upgrade.
- Planning around an incomplete class guide: only some class names and the Enforcer’s combat focus are documented publicly. Confirm the actual perks and starter kit in your installed version.
Who should play Asylum?
Asylum is suited to players who want 7 Days to Die to feel like a horror campaign with structured character identities and escalating monsters, rather than a lightly modified sandbox. The seven class quest chains provide a reason to replay, while Infernal Ascension and Action Mastery add progression after the ordinary perk decisions. The trade-off is uncertainty around version alignment and a steeper learning curve: enemy names, darkness and build-specific systems all matter, and an incorrectly matched release can invalidate a save.
