One-click scans. No signup required.
Your Android phone can handle several everyday office tasks through its camera: scanning pages into a document, extracting text, translating signs, reading QR codes and capturing details for contacts or Calendar. These are workflows across Google Drive, Google Camera, Google Lens and Google Translate—not seven identical features in one camera app. Availability and entry points vary by phone.
Scan paper into a file with Google Drive
For receipts, letters or statements, Google Drive on Android can turn a camera capture into a document scan. Open Drive, tap the camera option, point the phone at the page and capture it. Drive outlines the page and supports automatic or manual capture. Google Drive’s Android scan instructions describe the available controls and save options.

Review the page before saving: adjust the crop or rotation, apply a filter or grayscale, and clean up marks such as stains or fingers. You can add pages, retake a capture or delete a page. Choose a Drive folder and save as a PDF or JPG; Google describes the PDF output as searchable. A Drive scan widget can also provide a home-screen shortcut.

Some Pixel phones offer a document-specific route in Google Camera. Point the camera at a document and wait for the “Scan document” prompt, then follow the on-screen steps. Before saving, downloading or sharing, use Clean Image if the result needs cleanup. This is Pixel Camera guidance, not a feature that should be assumed to exist on every Android phone. Google’s Pixel Camera instructions explain the prompt and cleanup option.

Make a multi-page scan
A regular camera photo is usually a single image. In Drive’s scan flow, you can build a document from multiple pages, then review and save them together. This is useful for a letter with attachments or several pages of a form: add each page, retake one that is unclear, or delete a page that should not be included before saving the finished file.
Copy text from a picture with Google Lens
Open an image in Lens, select the text you need, and choose an action such as copy, listen, translate or search. Depending on what Lens recognizes, it may also offer context-specific actions for phone numbers, email addresses or links. This can help reuse text from a printed notice or screen without retyping it, but recognition can make mistakes; check the copied text before using it. See Google Lens help for Android for its text-selection actions.

Translate text with the camera
Google Translate can translate text from an image, including camera-captured text on some devices. Choose or detect the source language, select the language you want, and copy the translation if needed. Camera translation can work offline when the relevant language has been downloaded in advance. Small, unclear or stylized text may not translate accurately, so use a legible image and verify the language pair and result. Google Translate’s Android guidance covers image translation and its limitations.

Scan a QR code on supported phones
QR scanning may be available in Camera from Google through a QR mode or the default photo mode, but Google says the feature is supported only on selected devices. Depending on the code, the camera may offer to open a browser, show text or open an app. On Pixel, camera scan suggestions and a scanner in Quick Settings are also documented; the exact route varies by model and settings. If you do not see a scan option, use a QR-scanning entry point available on your phone rather than assuming every Android camera behaves alike. Google’s Pixel Camera help describes its supported scan options.
