Windows 11 has built-in shortcuts and tools for finding copied text, arranging apps, quieting notifications, dictating, capturing the screen, and connecting a phone. These six features are useful for specific tasks—not guaranteed upgrades to every workflow—and you can try them without buying anything.
1. Bring back something you copied with Clipboard history
Press Windows+V to open Clipboard history. The first time, choose the prompt to turn it on. After that, the panel lets you pick from recent copied items instead of relying only on the last thing you copied. Microsoft says the history holds up to 25 entries, with a 4 MB limit per item. It is cleared when you restart the PC, except for pinned items. Microsoft’s Clipboard support page explains the behavior and controls.

Pin items you want to keep available, or use the panel’s delete and clear controls to remove items. Optional clipboard syncing can share text across devices signed in with the same Microsoft or work account; you can choose automatic or manual syncing. Treat the history as a temporary convenience, not a secure store: avoid copying sensitive information you would not want retained or synced.

2. Arrange open apps with Snap layouts
When several windows are open, Snap layouts can place them into organized positions on screen—for example, a document beside a browser, or a video call beside your notes. Press Windows+Z, or hover over a window’s maximize button, then choose a layout and select the open windows to fill its spaces. Layout choices can vary with screen size, so not every arrangement will suit every display.

You can also snap windows with Windows+Left/Right and Windows+Up/Down. To adjust the feature, open Settings > System > Multitasking and review the Snap options. Microsoft’s multitasking guidance describes Snap Assist and related window controls.
3. Set a Focus session to quiet interruptions
For a stretch of work when notifications are distracting, open Settings > System > Focus and start a session. Set its duration, then choose whether Windows should turn on Do Not Disturb and hide taskbar badges or flashing alerts. Focus sessions provide a timer and notification controls; they cannot ensure that you will be more productive, but they make it easier to reduce some interruptions without changing each setting separately.

For dictation, use Windows+H
Press Windows+H to open voice typing and dictate text into a text field. This is useful when speaking is easier than typing, but it is a dictation shortcut—not a general way to control every application. See Microsoft’s Windows keyboard-shortcut guide.

For broader voice control, look for Voice Access
Voice Access is a separate, broader Windows capability for controlling the PC and authoring text by voice. Its availability and supported languages or devices can vary, so check the Voice Access options and setup information on your Windows installation rather than assuming it is available in every configuration. Microsoft introduced the feature in a 2022 Windows 11 article, but that article described it as a preview at the time: 11 tips to get the most out of Windows 11.
5. Capture and share a specific part of your screen
Press Windows+Shift+S to select a region of the screen to capture. This is faster and more precise than sending a full-screen image when someone only needs to see one detail, such as an error dialog. The capture is copied to the clipboard; open it in Snipping Tool to mark it up, save it, or share it. Microsoft lists the shortcut in its Windows keyboard shortcuts and describes Snipping Tool in its Windows productivity tips.

That can be handy when you want to check a message or photo without switching devices. The available functions are not identical for every phone, so confirm that your phone supports the particular feature you want before relying on it.
