There is no universal best wireless headphone for music: the right choice depends on the sound you enjoy, how much noise cancellation you need, comfort, battery life, and the devices you use. Five current candidates are the Sony WH-1000XM6, Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen), Sennheiser MOMENTUM 5 Wireless, Bowers & Wilkins Px7 S3, and Apple AirPods Max 2. The descriptions below draw on reviews and guides by What Hi-Fi? and SoundGuys, plus manufacturer specifications where noted; they are not first-hand listening tests for this article.
How to read these five picks
“Best” is a matter of priorities, not a defensible universal rank order. What Hi-Fi? favors the Sony WH-1000XM6 over Bose for sound, while giving the Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen) the edge in noise-blocking intensity. SoundGuys identifies the Sennheiser MOMENTUM 5 Wireless as its battery-life pick. What Hi-Fi? describes the Bowers & Wilkins Px7 S3 as refined and detailed, and highlights the Apple AirPods Max 2 for Apple-device integration and balanced sound.

| Model | Why consider it for music | Established details and trade-offs |
|---|---|---|
| Sony WH-1000XM6 | Strong all-round candidate; What Hi-Fi? rates its sound ahead of the Bose option. | Sony USA lists Bluetooth 5.3, SBC, AAC, LDAC, and LC3, with up to 30 hours of continuous music playback with noise canceling on or 40 hours with it off. Comfort and regional price are not stated in the cited material. |
| Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen) | Consider it if intense noise blocking and comfort are priorities. | What Hi-Fi? gives it the edge over Sony for noise-blocking intensity and describes the design as comfortable, but rates Sony ahead for sound. Battery life, codecs, and weight are not stated in the cited material. |
| Sennheiser MOMENTUM 5 Wireless | SoundGuys names it its battery-life pick and reports a replaceable battery and ear pads. | The precise battery rating and replacement procedure are not stated in the cited material. Do not apply MOMENTUM 4 specifications to this newer model. |
| Bowers & Wilkins Px7 S3 | Consider it for the refined, detailed sound described by What Hi-Fi?. | What Hi-Fi? says its noise cancellation is less capable than Bose’s or Sony’s. Battery life, codecs, and weight are not stated in the cited material. |
| Apple AirPods Max 2 | A candidate for Apple-device users who value integration and balanced sound. | What Hi-Fi? lists 20 hours of battery life, Bluetooth 5.3, USB-C charging, and a weight of 386.2 g. The listed battery life is shorter than several rivals, though the cited guide does not give a like-for-like battery test protocol for all five models. |
Which wireless headphones sound best for music?
Among these picks, What Hi-Fi? describes the Sony WH-1000XM6 as sonically ahead of the Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen). That is a reviewer judgment, not an objective result that will settle every listener’s preference. What Hi-Fi? also characterizes the AirPods Max 2 as smooth and balanced, and the Px7 S3 as refined and detailed. SoundGuys’ selection of the MOMENTUM 5 is specifically a battery-life pick, not a claim that it is the best-sounding model.

If possible, listen to your own music on the headphones before choosing. Pay attention to whether vocals, bass, and treble sound natural and enjoyable to you, and whether the headphone remains comfortable for the length of a typical listening session. A review’s preferred sound is useful context, but it cannot account for your taste or fit.
Choose by your main priority
For a sound-first all-rounder
Start with the Sony WH-1000XM6 if you want a broadly capable candidate and value the sound advantage What Hi-Fi? reports over the Bose. Its listed codec support and battery figures are useful checks, but do not guarantee a better experience with every phone or music service.

For noise blocking and comfort
Consider the Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen) if reducing outside noise is your leading need. What Hi-Fi? gives it the edge in outright noise-blocking intensity and describes it as comfortable, while preferring Sony’s sound. Comfort is personal, so try the fit if you can.

For battery-life interest and replaceable parts
SoundGuys’ battery-life pick is the Sennheiser MOMENTUM 5 Wireless, and the publication reports that its battery and ear pads are replaceable. The cited material does not establish a precise MOMENTUM 5 battery runtime or the replacement process. Confirm those details for the exact model and your market before treating replaceability as a practical advantage.

For a refined, detailed presentation
The Bowers & Wilkins Px7 S3 is worth considering if the sound description from What Hi-Fi? appeals to you and noise cancellation is not your top priority. That publication describes its ANC as less capable than Bose’s or Sony’s, so frequent travel or noisy commutes may make the other candidates a better match.
For Apple-device integration
Consider Apple AirPods Max 2 if integration with Apple devices is central to your choice and its balanced sound suits you. What Hi-Fi? lists 20 hours of battery life and a weight of 386.2 g. Compare the weight and wearing comfort in person if you plan long sessions.
Rank #4

Compare the specifications that affect your setup
Battery life is not always an apples-to-apples comparison
Sony USA lists up to 30 hours of continuous music playback with noise canceling enabled and up to 40 hours with it disabled for the WH-1000XM6. For MOMENTUM 5, SoundGuys names a battery-life pick but the cited material does not provide a runtime figure. What Hi-Fi? lists 20 hours for AirPods Max 2, without a shared test protocol across all candidates. Treat these figures as model-specific reference points, not a controlled ranking.
Sennheiser’s support specification for the MOMENTUM 4 Wireless, updated August 8, 2026, lists up to 60 hours of Bluetooth music playback with ANC. Sennheiser states that its test used an iPhone at medium volume. This is a different headphone generation from the MOMENTUM 5; the 60-hour figure does not establish MOMENTUM 5 battery life.
Best Value
- Block the World, Keep the Music: Four built-in mics work together to filter out background noise — whether you're in a packed office, on a crowded commute, or moving through a busy street — so every beat comes through clean and clear. (Not available in AUX-in mode.)
- Two Ways to Hear More: BassUp technology delivers deep, punchy bass and crisp highs in wireless mode — then step it up further by plugging in the included AUX cable to unlock Hi‑Res certified audio for studio-level clarity.
- 40 Hours. 5-Minute Top-Up: With ANC on, a single charge keeps you listening through days of commutes and long-haul flights. Running low? Just 5 minutes plugged in gives you 4 more hours — so you're never stuck waiting.
- Two Devices, Zero Hassle: Stay connected to your laptop and phone at the same time. Audio switches automatically to whichever device needs you — so a call never interrupts your flow, and getting back to your playlist is just as easy. Designed for commuters and remote workers who move smoothly between work and personal listening throughout the day.
- Your Sound, Your Rules: The soundcore app puts everything at your fingertips — dials your ideal EQ with presets or build your own, flip between ANC, Normal, and Transparency modes on the fly, or wind down with built-in white noise. One app, total control.
Codec support depends on the whole listening chain
Sony USA lists SBC, AAC, LDAC, and LC3 for the WH-1000XM6. Sennheiser lists SBC, AAC, aptX, and aptX Adaptive for the MOMENTUM 4 Wireless, not the MOMENTUM 5. A codec matters only if both the headphones and the source device support it; the listening service and its settings can also affect what you hear. Check the exact headphone generation and your phone or computer’s compatibility rather than assuming a codec name guarantees higher-quality playback.
Quick Recap
A practical buying checklist
- Set your main use. Decide whether music quality, noise cancellation, long-wear comfort, battery endurance, or Apple-device integration matters most.
- Check the fit. If you can, try the headphones for long enough to assess pressure, seal, and comfort. An uncomfortable fit can undermine an otherwise appealing sound.
- Confirm your device needs. Verify Bluetooth and codec compatibility for your phone or computer, especially if you are choosing based on a particular codec.
- Check model generation. Confirm the full product name. MOMENTUM 4 specifications, including its documented 60-hour battery test, are not MOMENTUM 5 specifications.
- Verify local price and stock. Compare current listings in your country; this shortlist does not establish a market, price ceiling, or current regional availability.
