1. Reduce chlorine taste and odor
If tap water has an unpleasant chlorine taste or smell, a compatible filter may make it more agreeable to drink. Waterdrop lists its PT-07 as a 10-cup pitcher with a filter certified to NSF/ANSI 42 for chlorine, taste, and odor reduction. NSF/ANSI 42 concerns aesthetic effects such as taste and odor. NSF/ANSI 372, which Waterdrop also lists for the PT-07, concerns lead-free materials; it does not establish that the filter reduces lead in water. Check the exact model’s current certification and performance information before relying on a contaminant-reduction claim.

2. Keep chilled water ready to serve
A pitcher makes filtered water available in a batch that can be chilled and poured at the table or from the refrigerator. The PT-07’s listed capacity is 10 cups, so consider whether that is enough for your household between refills. The format is simple to use, but it requires space for the pitcher and time for water to pass through the filter.

3. Choose a format that fits your kitchen and water use
A pitcher and an under-sink reverse-osmosis system solve different practical problems. For example, Waterdrop lists the G3P600 as an indoor, under-sink RO system with a stated capacity of 600 gallons per day, a 2:1 pure-to-drain ratio, and NSF/ANSI 58 and 372 certifications. These are manufacturer specifications; consult the model’s performance data sheet for the exact substances and reductions. Do not choose by stage count alone, and do not treat a total dissolved solids (TDS) reading as a complete safety assessment. Compare the specific contaminant claim, certification, performance data, space and installation needs, filter life, replacement costs, and maintenance.

Start with what is in your water, not a broad claim that a filter “removes contaminants.” CDC says filter performance depends on the technology and the particular contaminant, and that most pitcher and refrigerator filters are not designed to remove germs. It also cautions that taste, smell, and appearance do not reliably establish whether water is safe. CDC guidance on choosing home water filters

- Public water: Review your utility’s annual water-quality report, then look for a model-specific claim and certification covering the contaminant you want to reduce.
- Private well or rainwater: CDC advises testing at least annually. Ask your local health department about appropriate testing or state-certified laboratories, and choose treatment based on the results. CDC guidance on testing water
- Lead concern: EPA advises choosing filters evaluated by an accredited third-party certification body for lead reduction and particulate reduction under NSF/ANSI 53 and 42. NSF/ANSI 372 alone is not evidence of lead reduction in drinking water. EPA’s consumer tool for lead-reduction filters
CDC explains that standards identify specific claims, not universal purification: Standard 42 relates to taste and odor, Standard 53 covers certain health-effect claims where certified, and Standard 58 applies to reverse osmosis. Verify the exact model and substances listed rather than assuming certification in one area proves performance in another.

Correct preparation and timely replacement are part of using a filter responsibly. Waterdrop’s general FAQ advises soaking a new pitcher filter in cold tap water for 10 minutes, washing pitcher parts by hand, installing the filter firmly, and discarding the first two batches. For the PT-07, Waterdrop advertises filter life of up to three months or 200 gallons. Treat that as the manufacturer’s stated limit, not an independently verified outcome; follow the product’s indicator and instructions for replacement.
