You can make a GIF on a Samsung Galaxy from photos, a burst sequence, an existing video, or live camera capture. On supported devices, AI Select can also turn a moving area in a video into a GIF. The exact options depend on your model, software version, region, and installed features.
Choose a method based on what you have

These limits apply to their respective features, not to GIF creation on every Galaxy device. Samsung’s instructions and menus vary by model and software version.

Make a GIF from still photos in Gallery
- Open Gallery and long-press one of the photos you want to include.
- Select the other photos for the animation. Do not include a video in this selection; Samsung’s current guide says this workflow does not accept a mixed photo-and-video selection.
- Tap the create option, then choose GIF. On some software versions, the route may appear under More and then Create.
- Review the animation and save it.
Samsung describes a separate Stories-based GIF route that can use up to 50 images and offers controls for aspect ratio, speed, direction, and decoration. Because the path and availability are not established as universal, use it only if your Gallery presents that option. Samsung Gulf’s Stories and GIF instructions.
Turn a video into a GIF
- Open the video in Gallery.
- Tap the three-dot More options menu and choose Create GIF.
- Select the segment you want, adjust the speed or repeat settings if offered, and save.
Samsung’s current guide documents up to six seconds for this Gallery conversion. It also cautions that some very short videos may not convert successfully. If you want to isolate only one moving object or area rather than convert a video segment, use AI Select if your device supports it.

Convert a burst sequence
- In Camera’s Photo mode, swipe down on the shutter button and hold to take a burst; release to stop.
- Open the burst in Gallery.
- Choose the GIF option, review the result, and save it.
Samsung documents up to 100 burst images for this workflow. If swiping down creates a GIF instead of a burst, check the shutter-swipe setting in Camera and switch it to burst capture.
Capture a GIF directly with Camera
Samsung’s current instructions describe configuring this through Camera Assistant, which may need to be installed first. The feature is not presented as a universal Camera setting across all Galaxy models.

- Open Camera settings and open Camera Assistant.
- Set the shutter gesture to create a GIF.
- Use the configured shutter gesture to capture the animation, then review and save it.
Samsung documents a maximum of 30 frames for this direct-capture route. Older software may use a different Camera settings path, so menu labels can differ.

Make a GIF from a selected moving area with AI Select
- Play the video that contains the movement you want.
- Open AI Select and select the moving area.
- Choose Create GIF, record the selection, and save it.
Samsung Ireland documents source video clips up to 30 seconds for this AI Select feature and notes a resolution option. AI Select availability varies by device; this is a distinct method from Gallery’s video conversion.

If GIF creation or saving is unavailable
- The option is missing: Check whether your Galaxy model and software support the relevant feature. Update the phone and related apps, then look for the corresponding control in Gallery or Camera.
- The shutter gesture does the wrong thing: Check Camera’s shutter-swipe setting and select burst capture if you intend to make a burst.
- A video will not convert: Try a different segment or source video; Samsung notes that very short videos may fail in Gallery.
- The GIF will not save: Samsung recommends updating software and related apps and freeing storage space.
