5 Tripods for Mirrorless Cameras, Chosen by How You Shoot

Five tripods stand out for different mirrorless-camera travel needs, from the SIRUI Traveler 5C’s low carry weight to Gitzo’s folding Series 1 design.

The right mirrorless-camera tripod depends on what you need to carry and support: a slim packed shape, a low carry weight, greater working height, or more capacity for a heavier lens. These five models are useful candidates for different priorities, not a lab-tested ranking. Before choosing, compare the tripod’s stated load capacity with your complete setup—including the head, heaviest lens, and accessories—and remember that manufacturers’ maximum-load figures do not establish equal real-world stability.

Compare the five tripod options

Model and configuration Weight Maximum height Folded length Stated maximum load Material and distinguishing feature
Peak Design Travel Tripod; aluminum or carbon-fiber version Not stated in the cited source Not stated in the cited source 39 cm, according to Digital Camera World Not stated in the cited source Slim packed profile; the manufacturer describes the folded shape as approximately the diameter of a water bottle. [Digital Camera World; Peak Design]
Manfrotto Befree Advanced AS, reviewed aluminum kit 1.51 kg 150 cm 40 cm 9 kg Ball head includes adjustable friction damping and a panning lock. [Digital Camera World]
SIRUI Traveler 5C 0.85 kg 138 cm (1,380 mm) 33 cm 4 kg Carbon fiber. SIRUI lists the aluminum Traveler 5A at 1.05 kg, with the same maximum height and load. [SIRUI]
Gitzo Traveler Series 1, GK1545TA four-section kit, US listing 3.15 lb 64.96 in 16.93 in Not stated in the cited source 180-degree folding design encloses the head between the folded legs. [Gitzo US]
3 Legged Thing Punks Corey 2.0 1.78 kg 146 cm 36 cm 14 kg Magnesium alloy; highlighted for its load rating and low-angle versatility. [Digital Camera World]

Figures come from the cited manufacturer listing or the specific configuration identified by Digital Camera World, rather than a common measurement protocol. A higher stated load rating alone does not tell you how stable a tripod will be with your camera and lens. Prices also vary by market and over time; check the current listing for your region.

Which tripod fits your priorities?

Best for a slim packed shape: Peak Design Travel Tripod

Consider this model if fitting a tripod neatly into a camera bag matters more than choosing by published weight or height figures. Digital Camera World reports a 39 cm folded length and describes the profile as compact. Its guide also notes a high price, a fiddly hidden phone mount, and a supplied head that may not suit everyone. Decide between aluminum and carbon fiber before buying; the cited sources do not provide comparable specifications for both versions here. [Digital Camera World; Peak Design]

Best as an all-round kit: Manfrotto Befree Advanced AS

The reviewed aluminum kit combines a 1.51 kg carry weight, 150 cm maximum height, and a 9 kg stated maximum load. Its ball head has adjustable friction damping and a panning lock, making the included controls a notable part of the package. The trade-offs identified by Digital Camera World are a comparatively modest maximum height and no monopod conversion. [Digital Camera World]

Best for a light, short-packed setup: SIRUI Traveler 5C

At 0.85 kg and 33 cm folded, the carbon-fiber 5C is the lightest and shortest-packed option in this comparison for which the cited sources give both figures. Its stated 4 kg maximum load makes it a better fit for a suitably light camera-and-lens combination than for a setup chosen only by body weight. If you are weighing material against carry weight, SIRUI lists the aluminum 5A at 1.05 kg with the same 138 cm maximum height and 4 kg load rating. [SIRUI]

Best premium compact candidate: Gitzo Traveler Series 1

The exact US-listed GK1545TA four-section kit is notable for its folding design: the legs turn through 180 degrees to enclose the head for packing. Gitzo lists it at 3.15 lb, 64.96 in maximum height, and 16.93 in closed length. Those are model-specific US listing figures; confirm the exact kit and regional configuration when shopping, and do not infer a load capacity from the dimensions. [Gitzo US]

Best alloy option when rated load is a priority: 3 Legged Thing Punks Corey 2.0

This magnesium-alloy model has the highest stated maximum load among the five figures available here: 14 kg. Digital Camera World lists it at 1.78 kg, 146 cm maximum height, and 36 cm folded height, and highlights its low-angle versatility. The guide also flags the feel of the material and multiple clamps as possible downsides, so weigh capacity against carry weight and setup preferences rather than treating the load number as a guarantee of stability. How to choose for your camera and travel

  1. Calculate the complete load. Add the camera, heaviest lens, tripod head if it is not included, and any accessories mounted on the setup. Compare that total with the model’s stated maximum load, leaving room for the fact that the rating does not predict stability for every combination.
  2. Set a packing limit. Measure the space available in your camera bag or luggage, then compare it with the published folded lengths. Among the stated figures here, the SIRUI Traveler 5C folds to 33 cm, the 3 Legged Thing Punks Corey 2.0 to 36 cm, the Peak Design Travel Tripod to 39 cm, and the reviewed Manfrotto kit to 40 cm. Gitzo’s US listing gives 16.93 inches for the GK1545TA.
  3. Choose a working height that matches your framing. Compare the maximum height with the level you need for your usual compositions, not just the tallest number on a product page. The listed figures vary by model and configuration; check the manufacturer’s current listing before purchase.
  4. Check the head and controls. A complete kit’s supplied head may be convenient, but it is not automatically the best match for every photographer. The Manfrotto kit’s ball head has adjustable friction damping and a panning lock; Digital Camera World notes that the Peak Design supplied head may not suit every user.
  5. Balance weight, material, and setup. Carbon fiber can reduce carry weight in the SIRUI pair: the 5C is 0.85 kg versus 1.05 kg for the aluminum 5A, according to SIRUI. An alloy model may appeal if its particular feature set matters more than minimizing carry weight. Consider how the clamps and setup feel in use, too.

What these specifications can—and cannot—tell you

The figures above make it possible to compare packing dimensions and stated capacities, but they are not a controlled head-to-head test. The cited sources do not establish how all five tripods perform with the same mirrorless body, lens, head, surface, and stability protocol. Treat maximum-load numbers as manufacturer or guide-reported specifications, not standardized proof that one model will be steadier than another. For a closer match, check the exact kit’s current specification and assess it with the complete lens setup you plan to use.
