The five steps below are a practical checklist based on instructions in manuals for several Ryobi models—not a universal procedure for every tool. Follow the manual for your exact model.
1. Disconnect the power before cleaning
For battery-powered tools, remove the battery before cleaning or maintenance if the manual directs you to do so. A Ryobi circular saw manual says, “To avoid serious personal injury, always remove the battery pack from the tool when cleaning or performing any maintenance.” A Ryobi oscillating multi-tool manual also specifies battery removal before adjustments, accessory changes, or storage. 2. Wipe off dirt with a suitable cloth
Use a clean cloth to remove dirt, dust, oil, and grease where the manual recommends it. A Ryobi PCL206 drill-driver manual gives that guidance; the P2505 pruning shear manual specifies a soft, dry cloth for the body and handles. A clean, soft cloth is a sensible choice when appropriate for the tool, but microfiber is optional—the manuals cited do not require or endorse it.
Take care around plastic parts. The oscillating multi-tool manual says, “Avoid solvents when cleaning plastic parts.” A circular saw manual also warns against chemicals that can damage plastics. Use only cleaning methods permitted by your model’s manual.

3. Clean and check relevant accessories
Some accessories need attention after use, but the right step depends on the tool. The circular saw manual says to remove accumulated build-up from bits after each use and replace dull bits. Treat that as specific guidance for the accessories and tool covered by the manual, not as a rule for every Ryobi accessory.
Before the next use, check the tool and accessories for issues such as misalignment, binding, or broken parts. The oscillating multi-tool manual calls for this kind of inspection. Follow the relevant manual for any accessory cleaning or care instructions.

4. Check for loose, missing, or damaged parts
Look over the tool for loose fasteners, missing pieces, or visible damage. The P2505 pruning shear manual advises periodic inspection, tightening fasteners, and replacing missing or damaged parts before operating the tool. If a repair is beyond what the manual identifies as customer-serviceable, use the authorized service route it specifies.

5. Store the tool according to its manual
Put the tool away in the condition and configuration its instructions require. For example, the oscillating multi-tool manual says to remove the battery before storage. The P2505 pruning shear manual gives category-specific directions to clear foreign material before storage and fit the blade sheath. Those pruning-shear steps do not automatically apply to other tools; use the storage instructions for your model.
