How these five DS games earned a place on the list
Acclaimed Video Games’ Nintendo DS ranking, updated March 25, 2026, places these titles among its highest DS entries. The site aggregates appearances on critic lists; it is not a universal scorecard or proof of unanimous agreement. The selection also covers five distinct kinds of play, so the best fit depends on whether you want a story, an unusual use of the hardware, a longer role-playing adventure or repeatable races.

Five Nintendo DS games to consider
1. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney — for adventure and visual-novel fans
The critic-list aggregation ranks Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney first among its Nintendo DS entries and classifies it as an adventure/visual novel. It is the pick here for players who want a narrative-led game rather than racing or reflex challenges. The aggregation lists an estimated main-playthrough length of about 18 hours; treat that as an estimate, not a guaranteed time to finish.
2. The World Ends With You — for action RPGs built around the DS
Ranked second in the aggregation, The World Ends With You is an action RPG whose battles use both DS screens. Nintendojo’s retrospective also points to character-building through food and clothing, and a mix of suspense, drama and comedy. That combination makes it a particularly distinctive choice if you want a story-driven game that makes visible use of the system’s unusual layout.

Nintendojo’s retrospective calls it a favorite and says: “No game on DS better illustrated the system’s spirit of innovation; much of the structure was familiar, but the gameplay, visuals, music, and story all represented dramatic departures from the JRPG norms, and each paid out big time.”
3. Elite Beat Agents — for stylus-driven rhythm play
The third-ranked game in the aggregation is a music game developed by iNiS. GameSpot describes its rhythm play as stylus-driven: tap and drag in time with the music. That direct connection between the DS touchscreen and the core challenge is its clearest reason to make this list. Choose it if you want timing and coordination rather than a long role-playing campaign.
Rank #2
- This renewed game will not come with the original case or manual; cartridge only. It has been cleaned, tested, and is in nice condition.
4. Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver — for a classic Pokémon journey
The aggregation places Pokémon HeartGold and Pokémon SoulSilver fourth among its DS entries and classifies them as role-playing games. Nintendo UK describes the pair as enhanced versions of the 2001 Pokémon Gold and Silver, with an adventure set in Johto. The original package included the Pokéwalker, a step-counting accessory; whether it is present in a secondhand listing depends on that specific listing.
The versions differ in the legendary Pokémon featured at the climax: HeartGold features Ho-Oh, while SoulSilver features Lugia. Pick between them based on which version-specific legendary you prefer, rather than expecting different genres or regions.
Rank #3

Nintendo’s 2011 financial results briefing lists lifetime sales of 11.9 million units for the two versions combined. That is a historical figure reported in 2011, not a current sales total.
5. Mario Kart DS — for racing you can return to
Fifth in the aggregation, Mario Kart DS is the list’s kart racer. GameSpot characterizes its racing as intense and emphasizes strategic use of speed. It is the most natural pick if you want shorter racing sessions rather than a story-led campaign. Nintendo Life notes it was the first Mario Kart title to offer online play. That is a historical series milestone, not an assurance that the DS online feature is currently available.
Rank #4
- This renewed game will not come with the original case or manual; cartridge only. It has been cleaned, tested, and is in nice condition.
Nintendo’s 2011 financial results briefing lists lifetime sales of 21.04 million units for Mario Kart DS. This is the figure in Nintendo’s 2011 report, not a current total.

What to check when buying a cartridge
These are older physical games, so a title’s reputation does not tell you the condition or completeness of a particular secondhand copy. Check the details of the listing before buying:
Best Value
- ✅Compliation Collection: 520 or 468 genre-diverse games with save progress functionality. Includes a protective case.
- ✅Wide Compatibility: Works with all NDS/3DS/2DS systems (including XL/LL variants).
- ✅Plug & Play: English interface with auto-detects console language or multilingual games. Simply insert the card to install and play.

- Confirm that the listing is for the Nintendo DS cartridge and the exact title you want.
- Check the cartridge’s condition and the seller’s description of its operation.
- Confirm the region and whether it suits your console and preferences.
- For HeartGold or SoulSilver, check explicitly whether the Pokéwalker is included; Nintendo says it came with the original package, but that does not mean every used copy includes it.
Current prices and stock vary by seller and were not established here, so compare the actual listings rather than relying on a general price expectation.
