For demanding video editing, the 16-inch MacBook Pro with M5 Pro is the strongest editorial pick in this shortlist; for Windows workflows that lean on a discrete GPU, consider the ASUS ProArt P16. The 15-inch MacBook Air with M5 is the more portable fit for many photo and social-content projects. These five options are an editorially assembled shortlist, not a universal ranking or a side-by-side benchmark result.
How to choose a laptop for content creation
Start with your heaviest regular workload, not the label “creator laptop.” Editing a few photos or assembling social clips places different demands on a machine than multilayer 4K or 8K video, 3D rendering, or animation. Match the processor, graphics capability, memory, and storage configuration to the applications and project sizes you actually use.

- For photo editing and lighter video: prioritize a display you are comfortable working on, enough memory for your applications, and a size you will carry.
- For demanding video and 3D work: pay close attention to the exact CPU and GPU, memory capacity, cooling-oriented chassis design, and storage. A product family’s maximum specification may not describe the configuration on sale.
- For camera-based work: check the ports against your workflow, including whether you need an SD or microSD card slot, HDMI, or a hub.
- For a travel machine: weigh portability against display size, performance, battery needs, and the convenience of built-in ports.
Also choose an operating system that supports the tools you rely on. ASUS lists Adobe applications, Blender, DaVinci Resolve, CapCut, and SketchUp among the software aimed at ProArt P16 users; confirm compatibility and requirements for your own apps before buying. ASUS ProArt P16 product page

1. Apple MacBook Pro 16-inch with M5 Pro: demanding video editing
Tom’s Guide names the 16-inch MacBook Pro with M5 Pro its overall video-editing pick. Its 2026 guide lists a 16.2-inch Liquid Retina XDR display with 3456 × 2234 resolution and a 120 Hz refresh rate, an 18-core M5 Pro CPU and 20-core GPU, 24 GB to 64 GB of memory, and 1 TB to 4 TB of storage. Those are the guide’s listed specifications and editorial judgment, not a consistent independent benchmark comparison against the other laptops here. Tom’s Guide video-editing laptop guide
This is the shortlist’s high-performance Mac option for intensive editing. Its larger size and the cost of higher-memory or higher-storage configurations are practical buying considerations. Confirm the configuration and price available where you live rather than treating the product-family range as one fixed model.
2. ASUS ProArt P16: Windows creators who need a discrete GPU
The ProArt P16 is positioned for video editing, vlogging, broadcasting, 3D animation, photography, and graphic design. ASUS’s current product page describes configurations up to a Ryzen AI 9 465 processor and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 Laptop GPU; “up to” describes the product family, not every unit sold. These details belong to that listed variant and should not be blended with specifications from a different model year or configuration. Digital Camera World video-editing laptop guide

3. Dell XPS 16: a Windows alternative to investigate by configuration
Dell includes the XPS 16 in its creator-laptop selection and describes it as a high-performance 16-inch device for creators. Tom’s Guide also identifies the XPS 16 (2026) as a Windows alternative it tested. The available evidence does not establish a single configuration that represents every XPS 16, so compare the exact processor, graphics, display, ports, memory, and price for your market rather than assuming one specification applies across the range. 4. Lenovo creator-line laptop: choose a specific model for your discipline
Lenovo groups creator-oriented devices around workflows such as video and photo editing, 3D/VFX/animation, graphic design, livestreaming, and music production. That range is useful as a starting point, but a category page alone does not establish one Lenovo model as the best choice. Identify the particular model and local configuration first, then check its processor, graphics, memory, display, storage, and connectivity against your work. Lenovo creator laptops

5. Apple MacBook Air 15-inch with M5: portable photo and general creative work
Digital Camera World describes the 15-inch MacBook Air with M5 as a balanced, portable choice for many photo, video, and creative users who do not need MacBook Pro performance. Its main workflow compromise is connectivity: the guide notes a limited port selection and no SD card slot. If you transfer footage directly from camera cards or connect several peripherals, account for a hub or separate card reader. Digital Camera World video-editing laptop guide

Performance for your actual projects
Do not choose by processor or graphics branding alone. The application, codec, project complexity, resolution, effects, and export settings all affect what hardware matters. For heavier video, animation, or 3D work, compare the precise CPU and GPU configuration and memory capacity. For lighter editing, portability and display comfort may matter more than a top-end graphics option.

Display and color
Compare screen size, resolution, refresh rate, and panel type—such as OLED or mini-LED—on the exact configuration. A high-resolution or OLED panel can be attractive for creative work, but a manufacturer’s color-accuracy claim is not the same as independent measurement. If color-critical work matters, seek an independent test of the specific display or plan to verify and calibrate it for your workflow.
Memory and storage
Large source files, layered projects, and several open applications can make memory headroom important. Likewise, internal storage fills quickly when projects include high-resolution footage or large asset libraries. Compare the actual amount included in the laptop you can buy; “up to” figures describe a range, not the base configuration. Consider how your projects will be stored and transferred, without assuming that a particular external drive is included.
Ports, portability, and power
Check the actual port list for USB-C or Thunderbolt, HDMI, and SD or microSD access against your camera, display, and other peripherals. A larger high-performance laptop may be less convenient to carry, while a thinner or more portable one can require compromises in performance, ports, viewing comfort, or battery life. Compare manufacturer battery claims only when the test conditions match your use; no directly comparable battery results for these five candidates are established here.
Price and regional configuration
There is no single price that represents these product families: configurations and availability vary by country and can change. Compare like with like—especially memory, storage, display, and graphics—and check the current regional listing before purchase. The linked guides and product pages provide context, but their recommendations or specifications should not be read as a guarantee of local stock or current pricing.
A practical way to narrow the shortlist
- Write down your primary workload. Separate occasional photo edits and short social videos from regular intensive video, animation, or 3D work.
- Confirm app and operating-system needs. Check that your current creative software, plug-ins, and peripherals work with macOS or Windows as configured.
- Set a minimum configuration. Decide how much memory and storage your projects need, and whether you require discrete graphics or a particular screen.
- Check your connection workflow. List camera cards, external displays, drives, and other devices, then confirm the laptop has the ports you need or budget for generic adapters.
- Compare local listings. Verify the complete model identifier, included configuration, warranty and return terms, and current price in your region.
Which one makes sense for you?
- Choose the 16-inch MacBook Pro with M5 Pro if demanding video editing is your priority and its configuration, size, and cost suit you.
- Consider the ASUS ProArt P16 if you want a Windows creator laptop and are selecting a configuration with the graphics and display suited to your work.
- Investigate the Dell XPS 16 if you want a 16-inch Windows option, while comparing its specific configuration rather than relying on the model name alone.
- Start with Lenovo’s creator range if your discipline may point to a particular device, but make the decision at the model-and-configuration level.
- Consider the 15-inch MacBook Air with M5 if portability for photo, video, and general creative work matters more than MacBook Pro performance and you can accommodate its card-transfer and port limitations.
Tom’s Guide managing editor Jason England summarizes the broad requirements this way: “four things are essential for a laptop to be a content creator’s best friend: plenty of horsepower for those intensive 4K edits, a color-accurate display for confidence, good battery life for editing on-the-go and ergonomics for zipping around all those shortcuts.” The trade-offs among these five models make the practical point: weigh each requirement according to your own workload, rather than expecting one laptop to be best for every creator.
