If your budget is tighter or you want a webcam microphone, consider the Logitech C920s Pro, but it tops out at 1080p30. Prices change by region and retailer, so set a firm spending limit and check the current price before choosing. Best budget webcam for streaming: Elgato Facecam Neo
The Facecam Neo is the clearest fit if “budget” means an entry-level external webcam with smooth 1080p video. PC Gamer named it its best budget webcam in a guide updated August 7, 2026, listing 1080p at 60 fps, a 77-degree field of view and a privacy shutter. The guide observed a price of $40 in the US and £40 in the UK at that time; those are dated observations, not guaranteed current prices. PC Gamer’s Facecam Neo assessment

Tom’s Hardware also selected it as a budget webcam and reported a $59.99 price after a reduction. Its test found that the camera handled a low-light scenario better than expected, though the image looked grainy, and that it struggled in overexposed light. Treat those findings as results from that reviewer’s test conditions, not a universal low-light ranking. Tom’s Hardware’s Facecam Neo review

Two caveats matter for streamers: the Neo has no built-in microphone, so plan to use a headset or separate mic if you need audio; and its HDR mode drops the frame rate to 30 fps. PC Gamer also noted slow, awkward autofocus. If your scene changes brightness often or you move in and out of frame, test the camera in your actual setup before relying on it.

Five budget streaming webcams to consider
| Webcam | What the cited source establishes | Best fit | Price evidence |
|---|---|---|---|
| Elgato Facecam Neo | 1080p60, 77-degree field of view, autofocus and physical privacy shutter; no built-in microphone. HDR mode drops to 30 fps. PC Gamer | Face-cam streaming where smoother motion matters | PC Gamer observed $40 / £40 in its 2026 guide; Tom’s Hardware reported $59.99 after a reduction. Neither figure guarantees today’s price. Tom’s Hardware |
| Logitech C920s Pro | 1080p30, dual stereo microphones, automatic light correction, adjustable clip and threaded tripod base. TechRadar Logitech | A mostly stationary speaker who values integrated microphones and accepts 30 fps | Logitech’s guide gives an approximate listed price of $69.99; regional price and current availability can differ. Logitech |
| EMEET Pixy | 4K30 and 1080p60, AI tracking and a motorized two-axis gimbal. PC Gamer noted bulk and possible overexposure near a window. PC Gamer | A presenter who moves around and will use tracking or crop from a 4K image | PC Gamer observed $90 / £90 in its 2026 guide; this is a dated observation, not a current quote. PC Gamer |
| Anker PowerConf C200 | Kocitech’s 2026 guide calls it a 2K budget pick; exact current regional modes and specifications are not established here. Kocitech | A candidate to investigate if its current specification and price fit your setup | Current price not stated by the cited source. Kocitech |
| Razer Kiyo | Kocitech identifies it as a webcam with built-in lighting; the source does not establish lighting output against a dedicated light. Kocitech | A setup where integrated lighting is appealing, after confirming the exact generation | Current price not stated by the cited source. Kocitech |
The last two models belong on a shortlist, not a definitive ranking: the available guide does not establish current regional pricing or fully corroborate their exact specifications. Check the model revision, supported modes, compatibility and live price before buying. The Facecam MK.2 is another 1080p60 camera with manual controls, but the cited material does not establish that it currently falls under a budget ceiling, so it is not counted as a budget pick. Choose by frame rate, not just resolution
For a mostly stationary talking-head scene, 1080p30 can be adequate. For gameplay face-cam footage, frequent gestures or a presenter who moves, 60 fps produces smoother motion. The C920s Pro is a 30 fps model; the Facecam Neo and Pixy support 1080p60 according to their cited guides. TechRadar PC Gamer PC Gamer

Do not pay extra for 4K without a reason to use it. A 4K image can provide room to crop or reframe, but many streaming and conferencing destinations deliver at 1080p or lower. For a conventional 1080p stream, the higher capture resolution may not make a visible difference worth the added cost. Tom’s Hardware

Lighting and exposure
Camera performance depends on the scene. A bright window behind you, dim room or uneven monitor glow can affect the result more than a resolution upgrade. The Neo’s cited test found grain in low light and difficulty with overexposure, so prioritize a balanced, well-lit face rather than assuming any webcam will solve poor lighting. A separate streaming key light may help more than moving from 1080p to 4K. Tom’s Hardware PC Gamer’s testing methodology

Field of view, autofocus and tracking
Consider how much of your background the lens captures. A wider field of view can fit more people or room, but it can also expose clutter; Logitech notes that a narrower view can make it easier to frame yourself without capturing too much background. Logitech webcam buying guidance
Autofocus is useful if you move toward the camera or hold objects up, while tracking and a motorized gimbal matter most for presenters who move around. A fixed desk streamer may not benefit enough from the Pixy’s tracking to justify its larger body or stretch-budget price.
Rank #4
Microphone, shutter and mount
The Facecam Neo lacks a microphone, whereas the C920s Pro includes dual stereo microphones. If you already use a USB microphone for streaming, the Neo’s missing mic may not matter; if you need an all-in-one webcam for calls and streams, the Logitech’s built-in audio is a practical advantage. A physical shutter is useful when the camera stays attached between sessions. For mounting, check that the clip fits your monitor and that the model supports the tripod connection you need; Logitech lists a threaded base on the C920s Pro. PC Gamer TechRadar Logitech
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesHow to set a sensible budget and make the choice
- Set a ceiling in your local currency. Decide whether “budget” means a low-cost 1080p camera or whether you can stretch toward the roughly $90–$100 range observed for the Pixy in PC Gamer’s 2026 guide. PC Gamer
- Choose your motion target. Favor 1080p60 for movement-heavy scenes; accept 1080p30 if you mostly sit still and value the C920s Pro’s stereo microphones.
- Check the actual video workflow. Verify your streaming software or platform recognizes the camera at the resolution and frame rate you expect. A camera’s maximum capture mode does not guarantee that every destination will deliver that quality.
- Inspect your scene before upgrading. Test framing, exposure and focus in the room where you stream. Improve the light or background if those are the visible problems.
- Verify the listing before purchase. Confirm exact model generation, current regional price, stock, included mount, privacy features and microphone needs. The cited prices are guide observations, not fixed market prices.
How the cited reviewers tested
PC Gamer says it tests webcams in Discord, Google Meet and Zoom at the maximum supported resolution, and uses OBS to stream and record both full-screen and at face-cam size. It also describes testing manufacturer software and manual settings across monitor styles and cable routes, generally keeping webcams for at least a few weeks. These are PC Gamer’s stated methods, not tests performed for this article. PC Gamer methodology
