Samsung Notes: jot things down and mark up PDFs
Samsung Notes can bring handwriting, typed text, drawings, photos, and audio together in a note, and it can be used to annotate PDFs. It’s a natural starting point for class notes, lists, sketches, or marking up a document. Samsung describes S Pen uses for supported devices; features and pen compatibility differ across Galaxy Tab models. Samsung’s Galaxy tablet app guide and its Galaxy Tab S10 Series overview describe these uses, but S10-specific capabilities should not be assumed on other tablets.

Chrome: browse with familiar tabs and bookmarks
If you already use Chrome on a computer, its tabs and bookmarks can carry over to a mobile device, making it easier to pick up browsing where you left off. YouTube is a straightforward choice for watching videos and tutorials, and Samsung also identifies it as an app for uploading videos. It may already be installed, but availability and account experience can depend on the device and region. If it’s missing, check Google Play. Samsung’s app guide highlights YouTube, and Samsung’s Google apps support page explains that Google apps may be preloaded or downloaded.

Canva: make simple graphics and presentations
Canva is aimed at approachable visual projects, including presentations, social graphics, posters, and CVs. Templates and a tablet-sized workspace make it a practical place to start without building a design from scratch. The features available may depend on Canva’s current plan terms; check the app for what is included before relying on a particular feature. Samsung Kids: choose it when the tablet is for a child
Samsung Kids is not an essential app for every tablet owner, but parents and caregivers may find its child-focused controls useful. Samsung describes options for managing daily playtime, access to apps and contacts, and usage reports. The available controls can vary by country and device. Samsung’s Samsung Kids product page says: “Help your child develop good digital habits with Samsung Kids.”

Try Notes alongside another app with Multi window
On supported models and apps, Galaxy’s Multi window feature can show apps side by side or save an app pair. For example, keep reading material open beside Samsung Notes while you write. Samsung’s instructions and settings can differ by software version and model, and some apps do not support split screen. Check your tablet before adding a stylus
If handwriting, drawing, or PDF annotation is a priority, a compatible Samsung S Pen can be a helpful accessory. Not every Galaxy tablet supports an S Pen, and compatibility depends on the exact model, so confirm support for your Galaxy Tab before buying one.
