Before switching, compare the job the app does for you, the features you actually use, Android and device compatibility, current maintenance, privacy disclosures, regional availability, and the effort needed to move data or settings. The recommendations below are starting points for that evaluation, not a blanket uninstall order.

Nova Launcher: consider Lawnchair, but check the current ownership context
How-To Geek includes Nova Launcher in its list and suggests Lawnchair as an alternative. Its ownership history has changed: creator Kevin Barry announced that Branch acquired Nova in July 2022 and said he would continue to control its direction and development at that time. In a September 2025 statement, Barry said he had left Branch and had been asked to stop working on Nova and its open-source release effort. Nova’s January 20, 2026 update then announced that Instabridge had acquired the launcher and said its immediate focus was stability, compatibility with modern Android, and active maintenance.

That timeline is a reason to check current updates and decide whether Nova still meets your needs; it does not prove that the app is unsafe or that future maintenance will succeed or fail. If you try Lawnchair, compare the home-screen features and settings you rely on before making it your default.
UC Browser: compare privacy practices before moving to Samsung Internet
The article warns about UC Browser’s data handling and suggests Samsung Internet. That warning is attributable to How-To Geek; the evidence available here does not independently verify the app’s current data practices. Review the privacy information and permissions for both apps in the versions available to you, and check whether your bookmarks, saved logins, downloads, and other browser data can be moved in a way that works for your setup.

Simple Mobile Tools: match each app to a Fossify replacement
Simple Mobile Tools is a suite rather than one single-purpose app. How-To Geek’s suggested substitutes are Fossify Gallery, Fossify File Manager, and Fossify Phone. Choose replacements by task—photos, files, or phone functions—and verify feature parity, compatibility, and migration needs for each one. The available evidence does not independently establish the suite’s current ownership, the successors’ present status, or that every replacement behaves identically.

CCleaner: ask whether you need a cleaner or task killer at all
How-To Geek’s critique is that modern Android users generally do not need RAM-boosting or task-killer apps; it suggests Files by Google instead. That is an argument about those functions, not proof that every cleaning feature is harmful or useless in every situation. If you use CCleaner for a specific task, identify that task first and check whether Files by Google—or Android’s built-in storage controls—actually covers it before removing the app.

- List what you use. Note the app’s essential functions, stored information, and settings you want to keep.
- Check where the data lives. Look for information stored on the device or in an account, and export or back it up where the app provides that option.
- Install and evaluate the alternative. Confirm that it is available for your device and region, works with your Android version, and supports the features you need.
- Test before deleting. Make sure the replacement handles your everyday tasks and that any data or settings you depend on are present.
- Remove the old app only when ready. If you find a missing feature or migration problem, keep the original until you have a workable solution.
These steps are prudent migration guidance, not a claim that any particular app offers a specific export path or that a replacement imports everything automatically.
